I guess just like us, you are seeking information on this hotel before spending your hard earned money on a holiday.
You should know that, we have thought carefully before giving this information because we both feel different about the H10 Conquistador!
On arrival at the hotel we met a queue of 14-16 people waiting to book in. We were given 2 glasses of Champagne to soften the wait time of 55 minutes! The electronic key had to be swiped each day (a faulty lock to blame).
The room we had was quite small, and in need of a re-vamp - the furniture although intact, looked tired and in need of replacement. There werent many drawers & not many hangers in the wardrobe. There was no fridge, or tea making facilities (you had to pay extra for these if you wanted them). There was however a hairdryer in the bathroom! The bathroom was workable given there were only 2 of us - no window or fan though - which made it a bit hot at times. It was all in marble (which she liked!). The balcony was a bit small, but had a little patio table and two chairs - the view was of the swimming pool area below, and a view of the sea (be warned however when booking, as the rooms on the otherside of the corridor look out over the road).
The actual cleanliness of the room was good, the service from the housekeeping staff were really good (happy to come back later if needed).
It is fair to say that the hotel must have been good in its hay day but the corridors lacked light, and carpets were a bit stained in places (albeit hovered daily).
" The Food " - now, this is in my opinion the biggest fault with this hotel. Breakfast was ok, lovely fresh omelettes or pancakes cooked in front of you, and normal breakfast available on the buffet area (bacon not much good there - it was the streaky variety!). Lots of fresh fruit & pasties. All the meals were buffet style, and were as much as you could eat ! (so if you liked the food - you didn't go hungry). Dinner was a white wash, absolute rubbish (in my view),day 1 was great (lots of lovely salads) ,but as the week continued it got worse,(even if I had a dog, I wouldnt have let him suffer such poor quality food). I think the food would struggle to reach a 2 star standard - let alone 4 plus star (as advertised in thomas cook).
The Pool area was well looked after and cleaned each day. Plenty of sunloungers to use but be warned the germans get up early (06.30am they start dragging the sunloungers and umberellas across the concrete!!!!) and "try" to get them all. If you just want to swim, tan and chill out (with a bar & little eaterie by the pool) this is a good area to be in.
There are a few daytime activities that interested us, all of which were based in and around the pool. Aqua aerobics was good, but other acitivies missed the mark - they inlcuded darts, billiards, table football etc.
" The Spa " - now this is her domain so the comments are solely from her point of view - the spa needed some attention - again a little run down - jacuzzi wasn't working (and staff not very friendly at all - when she pointed out how disapointed she was that it wasn't working, they were not helpful, and refused to refund any money). This was very disappointing, as one of the reasons we picked the hotel was because it had a spa. She didn't try any of the treatements (out of spite due to how she was treated) - so we cannot comment on these. She did complain to "public realtions" (they're version of the complaints people), and again they were not interested - very rude and abrupt - enough to put you off going back to the hotel if that is how they treat their guests.
" The Piano Bar "- is more like a honky tonk posh area, not many ballads or concertos played there. The bar itself is good, quite expensive too, even if the measures are large ones.
" The Reception " - One word for it is - Useless. Try not to ask a questions as it only confuses them (ah,never mind). Dont leave any messages for the reps or other residents as they never get delivered !
The actual location of the hotel is great, only minutes from the local bars, shops and beach area. This is the one thing that exceeded our expectations - it was truly great.
I guess that the hotel is a good centralised base to holiday from, plenty to do and see once you leave the hotel.
We have had a great holiday (and would go back to tenerife) ,sadly the hotel tainted part of that experience.
Please note ; we did read quite a few of the previous reviews placed on this website,we decided to make our own opinions, and suggest you should do the same, there actually are people who return to the Conquistador each year and have done for a number of years,we just dont feel that this hotel qualifies for a high rating at this time.
We hope you have a good holiday - Tenerife IS well worth a visit.
