“Nice hotel ,can only fault dining room!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2010

Spent 10 days there JAN 5TH- 15TH, best winter weather we have ever had in Tenerife, 23-26 and rained once one night.
We picked this hotel because of the price and the location is near to our favourite haunts. If you are not good on your pins it wont be the place for you, about 15 mins to the beach and hilly. The car park opposite is being dug up and this makes the front of the hotel very noisy, also two lanes were merged into one, lots of beeping! We had a poolside view so didnt suffer. There are a few ladies of the night about after dark, a couple of old gents walking back late were approached, everyone had a laugh.
Reception very helpfull, I hate lifts so they gave us a room on the 3rd floor.Typical hotel room, twin beds , balcony etc.Fresh towels, cleaned daily and maid left you to sleep if sign was on the door.
We took the half board option, cant fault the food , apart from the fact it could be hotter. That is the same in most hotels we have stayed. However I feel the dining room is too small and tables close together, people pushing past and weaving in and out.By 9am there was a queue and most evenings we had to wait a while to be seated. Once we wre shown to an unmade table with a dirty cloth. The staff work hard to keep things running ,some were not very polite, overworked? Dining is a big part of a holiday and it wasnt relaxing there. Perhaps eating early is the best, free bubbly Thursday evenings.
Cant comment on entertainment, we went out, but the bar looked nice.
We had a great holiday, so dont be put off, I am just telling you how I feel.
All in all a nice hotel

Have just returned from Oro Negro after spending Christmas and New Year there, hotel is very good with a nice bar area and plenty of good food for both breakfast and dinner. For breaskfast you can have anything from 'fry up' to fruit and yoghurt. For dinner there is plenty of choice. Reasonably priced drinks in restaurant and bar i.e. house wine 5 euros, beer 2.75 euros. There is a good local pub called the Royal Oak which is cheaper than those on the strip and plays quite good music. would stay here again.

just returned after spending Christmas here ,we had a fabulas holiday ,we went as a group of ten people ,the hotel responded to our request of having our rooms on a low level .The pool was too cold to swim in ,except for our crazy kids aged 17 @ 20 but even they could only stand it for a for a few minutes. The hotel food was excellent pleny of choice ,could not be faulted. On the whole we had a fab time but found tenerife very exspensive, especially the drinks,But we did drink alot

we have just returned from a week at the oro negro and found it better than the usual 4* hotels we usually stay in ! The food was excellent and every evening there was a good selection of quality food, I love fish and there was always at least 2 different fish dishes every night, my meat eating husband was well provided for also. There were at least 3 meats/fish cooked fresh to order every night, and the only complaint is that the portions are too big, I asked for salmon and it covered my plate almost completely ! The staff are all friendly and go that extra mile to make sure that you have a great holiday.

Having read some of the recent reviews I arrived at the Oro Negro slightly wary of what to expect. However to reassure impending guests, the 10 days we spent at this hotel were fine. If you accept it is a 3* hotel in a holiday resort then essentially this hotel delivers what you can expect.

Food was good, certainly hot and always a fairly decent selection available. Mealtimes can get fairly busy particularly around 09.00 at breakfast and 19.30 for dinner however staff were helpful and pleasant contrary to some reviews posted earlier this year. No complimentary drinks are provided at dinner, including water, however a bottle of wine can be purchased for 5 Euro.

Our particular room was on floor 7 overlooking a neighbouring aparthotel & the rear of the Oro Negro. There was music to be heard until the early hours from the coastal strip about 400 yards away but it was minimal. To hire the room safe costs 3 Euro / day plus a deposit on the key and a refundable deposit is also payable to obtain a remote for the in room air conditioning. Bathrooms are fairly basic & our room had mimimal hot water pressure making running a bath almost impossible, however friends in a room overlooking the pool complained of high hot water pressure! I would briefly highlight towel changing can be a lottery, on the first morning our safe would not open (& it contained all our cash and cards!) and room locks can be a tad temperamental.

The hotel is fairly well situated for down town Americas, Los Cristianos and north towards San Eugenio. All are walkable and offer alternatives.

Finally, for a good night out if you enjoy live music, try the Bulls Head and a band called the Vagabonds. This place is located near an arcade called the Safari about 15 mins walk away (turn right outside the hotel & it's one of a number of outlets on your right just before you reach Av de las Americas)

just returned last night after spending 7 days here.We were very disappointed in the food as it was sometimes not very hot also the the beef was like leather.Thinking you could not go wrong with chicken breast , that was the same and we could,nt eat it.Spoke to other guests and they thought the same.I am not a fussy eater and normally quite happy and easily pleased. This hotel is nice otherwise except for restaurant.I would go back to las americas but not to this hotel
