“REALLY WELL MANAGED GOOD VALUE HOTEL”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

We enjoyed our recent stay in this hotel immensely and are very impressed with how well managed it is. Despite the large number of people staying all the time the hotel runs like a well oiled machine with staff and and management always polite, courteous and good humoured. The hotel is clean and comfortable and special mention must be made of the delicious varied buffet style cuisine. The chefs deserve an accolade producing constant fabulous dishes to tempt us - the variety is generous so no matter what type of diet you prefer to follow there will be something for you. Warning: Very easy to over indulge !!!! The dining staff are so welcoming too. You may have to queue sometimes until a table becomes available but never for too long. This is a popular hotel with regular long stay visitors so that really is a recommendation in itself. I have just two little problems. Firstly, this is a personal thing so may not apply to you, but we found the mattresses on the beds extremely hard - too firm and unforgiving so not always a good night's sleep was had. A bit like sleeping on an ironing board. But as mentioned, that is a personal preference. However, my real annoyance was the charge for using the safe which is secured in the bedroom cupboard. We thought the charge excessive considering the safe is in the room anyway - in fact pure profiteering. Happy to pay the refundable deposit for the key to use it and an additional nominal charge although in my opinion it should be included in the price. The hotel is a 15-20 min walk from the lovely beaches. The walk we considered a bonus as it gave us a compulsory walk each day to try and hone off a few calories! Be sure to ask for a room overlooking the pool side of the hotel as the road side could be noisy. Overall we did enjoy our stay very much and would go there again providing the good value price we attained for the holiday was once again available.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool. The higher up you go the better the view. We were on the 10th...

just returned (in the snow) from this hotel. I e mailed requesting high floor, quiet room and was given 4th floor - reception is on 2 - so only 2 up opposite the lift, was not chuffed til we looked in the room, massive 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, two tv's large balcony, lovely view over pool, well pleased. We liked this hotel, not too large. Reception staff all spoke english and were very friendly. Food was find, show cooking, carvery evry day. Desserts were ok - just ! Had to queue a few times to get a table. We spoke to people who had been 7 8 and 9 times before so that speaks for itself. Would I return, probably not but the incline to the hotel and the distance from sea front would be the only reason. If you dont have problem with this. try it. Any questions please ask.

Dear terrierdog,
Thank you very much for sharing your experience in our hotel. Your comments give us the chance to improve our services.
I apologize if we couldn’t get for you a high floor room on your arrival with pool. We always try to do our best but in high season is a little bit more difficult, but I keep happy that you enjoy you stay and finally your room, as well.
I hope to welcome you again in our hotel
Yours sincerely,
Domingo Pérez

First impressions when we got there, was that it was a spacious hotel, clean and airy. We stayed on the 7th floor facing the pool, where we also had views of the sea, and we got the sun on the balcony all day. Room was clean, spacious, large and comfortable. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. We are in our early 40's, approximately 70% of guests were older, and 30% younger, which we felt was a good mix, as everybody was there for a good holiday with none of the drunken rowdiness of some hotels/resorts. Pool was cleaned every day. Plenty of sunbeds. About 10 minute walk from the main bars and shops (Veronicas Strip). Just in the right location for peace and quiet, yet all bars and shop within an easy walk. Stayed half board, breakfast was good, but recommend getting there before 8.30am, as ques start to gather. Dinner was nice, could of offered a bigger selection, especially if you have children, but all mains cooked fresh in front of you. Would recommend for couples, famlies, perhaps singles in peak season. Every night and even in the day they laid on entertainment which was popular. The only downside was that you had to pay to hire a small fridge and kettle for your room, which we feel should come as standard. Would definitely recommend. We are going back again as soon as we can. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 7th floor in room 730, we were on an end, we only had one neighbour. We overlooked...

Xmas again at the Oro Negro, This is a Hotel I have visited before, still the high standard as before . Food very good, every thursday free CAVA, every day is like Christmas day.The only fault is ( if it is a fault) Half of the tables in the restaurant had tablecloths and the other half was plain tables with nice place mats,(made it look a little like a canteen). The staff were excellent all over the hotel. ( this Hotel is a loosely guarded secret ). Clean rooms, plenty of clean towels, room cleaned every day, Reception staff very helpfull (all speak english).
All in all a very good Hotel to have a holiday.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the pool, High floor.

Stayed here for 5 nights over new year. Great value for money hotel. Immaculately clean with maids in every day. Spotless throughout hotel grounds. Very friendly staff, from reception staff to the restaurant staff, especially the girl who shows you to your table. Constant smile.. The location is great to, in PDLA but on outskirts. Great wee bar along from hotel, the whiskey jar. Pool area great as well with plenty loungers. This hotel is not for young groups but more for couples, families and older folk. Read negatives about the area but having been to this area a few times I have never encountered any issues.
Only negatives would be, Not near enough sockets in rooms and TV could be updated.. Defo will return though..

Room Tip: Heard few people mention roadside rooms were noisey but we were on opposite side so never bothered u...

We arrived on the 14th January and on first impressions my heart sank a little the coach drops you off across from the hotel on a main road.
After booking in we were put in a room on the main road side this was very noisy from the traffic and after requesting to be moved they did but only to a higher floor same main road side and noise the trouble is most of the good rooms have been taken up by the long stay pensioners it was me that needed the rest for the week!
I was woken most morning by the early birds going down for there breakfast so they can be ready in time for the 0900 rush for the sun beds,After experiencing this we decided to go to the beach most days.
There is simply just not enough room around the pool area for any more sun beds I would say half of you miss out.
Food was fine even though we did eat out on 3 occasions the hotel staff are very nice and pleasant the beer in the bar is 3 euro's but only 1euro in most bars outside the hotel.
I would personally go back to the same area but go to a different hotel I may of changed my review a little had I been given a quieter pool side view room!

Paul
