“Awful.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Never in all my life have i stayed in a hotel like the Columbus. The floors were filthy, out feet were black after just 20 minutes in the room. The bed sheets has holes in them, and were quite clearly infested with something judging by the amount of bites I woke up with - one of which got a nasty infection. We were self catering, which meant no air conditioning. That made nights very uncomfortable, and you couldn't even leave the balcony door open because of the amount of noise from the road outside. The kettle took about 5 minutes to boil, the hob was barely hot - the only thing you could really cook was pasta since you could just let it stew. the fridge was bordering on cold - enough so our drinks didn't go warm. The place is infested with cockroaches. If catching them was a sport, we'd have got gold from the balcony alone. There were not enough sun beds to go around, and if you didn't get there for about 9:30, you didn't get one, simple as that. Even when you did get one, you had to fight for a decent space, since over half the pool area was shaded by 12pm. The bloke at the poolside bar was miserable as sin, and appeared to be the only one working there. The only plus to the hotel is it was in a great location, just walking distance from restaurants and clubs.

Room Tip: If you manage to get a sunbed, try and go on the side by the self catering blocks.

It is what it is!!! A cheap all inclusive destination for thousands of tourists each year. We were a party of 18 golfers based there on a self-catering basis and it was perfect. Close to all the bars and restaurants and cheap. Yes there was some noise at night from a few idiots who's all inclusive alcohol proved tough to handle and yes the rooms could of been slightly cleaner, but the maids were there everyday. Watching the queue for sun beds at 10am was amusing but if you buy in to this kind of holiday you will be fine and the pool area was excellent even though the pool itself was cold. So if you want better...upgrade to a 4* hotel and pay the price!!!

Four of us stayed here for my sister's 40th for 3 nights October 2013. After reading the reviews I can honestly say I was worried and packed my credit card 'just in case'! Usually used to quiet 4 & 5* hotels and not a package holiday kind of girl....I was VERY apprehensive. So we arrived and had a bit of an annoying forty min wait to check in. We had a one bedroom apartment on the fifth floor. It was spotless albeit a little dated. I think you have to put things in perspective. ...for the price I paid i was happy £360 for 3 nights all inclusive with flights. ...cheap as chips! The food was good with a good selection, breakfast was brilliant and the staff were friendly at all times. We didn't stay around the pool during the day as we went to the beach ten minute walk away. The apartment was well equipped and roomy enough for the 4 of us. Really good location wise and just twenty mins from TFS airport. The weather was excellent too which always helps. I think things need putting into perspective to be honest and whingers need to book 5* pay over £500 and look at different resorts....come on....its Playa de las Americas!!! :-D

Just honestly this place is terrible, un-helpful staff, poor all inclusive bar, and terrible food, cockroaches in the bedroom all resulting in me and others being ill half the week. My advice... Don't bother! I'd preferably sleep rough for a week than stop there again.

We read a few reviews on Columbus after we booked and we was a bit unsure, although first impressions of the hotel were great, all eight of us arrived and were impressed with the hotel. We got the all inclusive package and couldn't fault it one bit, paid only a hundred extra and had constant food and drink throughout the day, saying that, the daytime food isn't a la carte, but what do you expect. The evening buffet is great with a fantastic choice of food. Throughout the day we couldn't fault the place, the hotel was filled with people of a similar age and were all looking to have a good time and at night the good vibes just continued. The hotel is in a prime location to the Veronicas strip, which we walked in about five mins, the strip itself is absolutely mental and I must say A LOT better than what we expected! One word of advice, just take out the money you need, (which would be about 30-40 euros roughly as drinks are so cheap) as I was mugged in the strip for my wallet and iPhone, the Moroccan's work together in groups to target young drunk tourists, so just watch out. They don't want to hut you, just a bit of money and what ever valuables you have. But because the place was so good, it didn't tarnish the trip whatsoever. Overall a top holiday and Columbus topped it off!
