“Fantastic hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

I wasn't expecting much from this hotel considering what we paid for a weeks stay but I was very pleasently suprised. The foyer, restaurant and pool areas were so modern and well decorated and we wer greeted by one of the security guards who was soo friendly and helpful always giving us tips and directions. We wer quickly processed at reception and in our room within 5mins of arrival. we wer self catering and in the older rooms which are the non renovated ones and even still I thot they wer fab. the newer rooms must be amazing. We had a perfect kitchen area heat bathroom and large balcony. Only downside was that the bed was 2 singles pushed together and there was no air con but we managed. we rented a fan but didn't think it was much good and wen we told reception 2 days later we got our money back. Breakfast at the hotel is a must at 6euro its more expensive than other places but its worth it the selection is great. We drank by the pool a few days and thot it very reasonable. The pools wer cleaned every day but the only downside was that the hotel didn't pay much attention to their rule about not reserving sun loungers. We had to be down for 9 to get one but noticed a good 30 loungers wer put out by guests who threw a towel over them and wandered off. some sat empty all day which was frustrating. The hotel is in a good central location between the shops and the nightlife and is handy to bus stops for the main attractions. ur room was just above the bar so we Did get a lot of nice at nightbut it didn't ruin our stay by any means. Our rooms wer cleaned daily and in a wk we had fresh towels 4 times which was more than plenty. wudnt hesitate to stay at Columbus again and I feel stupid for letting bad reviews on here worry me beforehand

I stayed 18sept-9oct, and would not go again. I would say this was for younger people, say 18-30. They had a radio by the pool, "and it was Loud". The furinture in the lobby was worn out, you would not have it in your house. You had to pay for TV in your room, the safe you had to pay for and it was at the bottom of the walldrobe, so your on hands and knees. No draws for nik-naks. The Balcony was not swept every day, air con you had to hire a remote control to use it. The meals were repetitive not much choice ie Chips Every Evening potatoes 3times in 3weeks, and 1 veg. Good points a Fridge in the room, and the pool was kept very clean. One more thing I killed 2cockroaches.

Reception staff are rude. Sunbeds wouldnt let s dog on them, theyre black and dirty. Not enough of them unless you want to be up at 4 in the mornin to reserve one. If you like cocroaches youll be fine. Enjoy! Toodle-pip.

I stayed in this hotel between september 21st-october 6th. Had a fantastic time. Im 21 and went with 2 friends of same age. We were all inclusive. Checked in around 9.30pm. The man on reception was very friendly and because we were nice back we got a pool view room. The rooms are very basic, we were in a twin room. This has 2 single beds and a sofa bed with a fridge, unit and large wardrobe. There is a tv but you have to pay 20euros deposit and 1 euro per hour. but when you're on holiday why would you want to watch tv? We did have a few cockroaches over the time but not many and they were tiny. but you would expect this in Tenerife. All inclusive hours are 10am-11pm. the drinks included are local brands which you adapt to over time. The bar staff were very friendly and our group got on well with them all. The entertainment was fantastic! every night there is a quiz and bingo followed by a different entertainment every night. The 3 entertainers are amazing. friendly and great with kids. again our group got on very well with them. There is a bar below, inside the hotel. This is open until 3.30am and you are likely to hear some noice if you stay in that building, we however were in the all inclusive building so never heard anything.
Considering how many bad reviews I'd read before going, i was very wary of this hotel but I couldnt of enjoyed it anymore. Be warned though, get up early to get a sunbed!
Rooms are supposed to be cleaned 3 times a week. Our room though got cleaned every day of the 14 we were there!
Would most def go back here!

Room Tip: Go all inclusive as these are the only rooms with air con!

Our room was lovely, but we were on the second floor and we were woken every morning at 08.15am by the very noisey building works going on underneath us every day !! We also were woken most nights in the early hours by fighting, shouting and even a game of football in the corridors !!! They way the hotel is made means you can hear the noise from all six floors !!!
The sunloungers were under lock and key and there was always a queue for them opening. There was never enough sunloungers for everyone in the hotel. There was only one bar open so the staff were very much overworked, most staff were lovely and we only saw one security and one bar staff grumpy. The rest of the staff were lovely and helpful. There are not enough chairs/sitting areas round the pool at night for everyone in the hotel. Entertainment was abismal. Food in the restaurant could be a bit hit and miss. Sometimes lovely and sometimes yucky and not hot enough. But there was always something edible, ie cold meat salads, chips and pizza. Our room faced flats across from the hotel and there was also building works going on in these flats so we couldn't sit on the balcony without constant noise. We were in the all inclusive block with air conditioning but it cannot be altered at all so some nights we woke up chilled and had to pull the fuse to stop it. Dining room staff were lovely. We will definately not be going back to this hotel and I would not recommend it to anyone.

My boyfriend and i stayed here for a week with friends we are all mid twenties and i would not stay here again. On arrival we asked that we could be on the same floor as our friends who were also staying here, the man who checked us in was very helpfull and obliged us.The Hotel is on a main busy road and your room will either be this side or poolside. Our room was poolside, opposite across the pool is the all inclusive block (which has aircon) our block did not. The rooms are basic but clean and maids most days however our feet were constantly black and beds were not changed.

As we had no a/c we had to open the balcony door and all night long you hear traffic noise, doors slamming and shouting and screaming from other inconsiderate hotel guests who are all british and voices echo around the block!

I woke up around 4am to the worst sewerage smell imaginable in our room, it wasnt coming from outside and the cause was unexplained? I said if it happened the next night we would change rooms and it did. On informing reception we were told we had one of the best rooms? but we were able to look at another room roadside if we wished to. We moved to this room where we stayed, i did still smell sewerage every night but it wasnt as bad as the other room.
My friends and no other reviewers have seemed to notice this but it was so bad i woke up!?
We had one cockroach that i threw out, but tenerife has them everywhere.

The breakfast is pretty standard, lots of choice but quality pretty poor. The hotel is around 10 minutes walk to the beach, bars, restaurants which is good. Across the road is an all you can eat chinese for 8euros which i was very suspicious about but it was very good. The hotel staff do a great job, and i imagine suffer with a lot of complaints.

All in all if its a drinking holiday and you will be coming home at 5am then this is perfect for you, if you like to get a few hours sleep then id book somewhere else.

Room Tip: Both sides bad as each other, the top floor is probably the best.

The stay in the Columbus was the worst holiday I have ever had! The staff in reception/bar area and security and extremely rude and selfish. However the staff in the restaurant were outstanding , so friendly and approachable give a great welcoming feeling. The hotel is not child orientated they mention lots of activities but there is at least an hour wait at night between amidst acts the they only on for about 30 minutes. My sister also was poorly and went to sleep on a chair in reception in the day we were leaving we were then approached by security who was shouting to get to our room , however we were willing to pay for a room due to not only my sister being ill but we had a 2 year old toddler , we were refused a room. I would never recommend or return to this hotel
