We stayed at this hotel for 9 nights at the begining of October. We booked with fleetway travel at 6 days notice and can thoroughly recomend them. The reception we received was great we arrived at 9.10pm and were ushered down to the restaurant for food while the receptionist checked us in.
Food
I can't complain about the quality of the food but I do take on board other comments about lack of choice. The hotel is geared mostly for other nationalities with brits in the minority but that is one of the reasons we booked here! So at lunch and supper if you are prepared to eat spanish, german and italian food during your stay you will be fine however if one of your children is a fussy eater as is one of ours they might struggle to find something and live on chips all week. At breakfast time a full english is available as well as continental.
Hotel standards and location
I can't complain about the hotel as a four star, it is huge and kept clean at all times, the basement pool area is a perfect sun trap and is a perfect place to laze the days away and the pool is well sectioned off for kids plus there is a knee deep kids pool adjacent to the main pool which keeps kids happy. There is also a pool on level 5 but the italian version of thomson holidays are based here and we left them to it and didn't venture up there much The location is fine, cross the roundabout and turn right to walk down the pathway by the shopping centre to get to the beach which is a pleasant and 5 minute walk. The beach is great but the downside are the looky looky men that keep pestering but they do leave you if you decline politely and if you walk to the harbour you will be acosted by a multitude of pr people trying to get you to eat at various restaurants. I can recomend a trip to see dolphins and whales from the harbour. We went on the Eden catamaran booked at the ticket box which is positioned at one of the pedestrian pathways to the entrance to the marina part of the harbour (do not try the excursion shops in or opposite the hotel they tried to charge 80 euro's for the same trip!). It cost 51 euro's for a two hour trip inclusive of drinks but we were rewarded by having a school of 6 dolphins swim with our boat for 1/2 hour.
Entertainment
The entertainment in the day was low key with there being a table tennis competition or petanque or darts competition or a choice of archery or shooting at 11ish, aqua aerobics at 12 and then water volley ball/football or table tennis/darts/petanque at 3pm and bingo at 4pm. The entertainment team come and ask politely for participents and don't hassle those that want to be left alone, like at some resorts. Lisa, Fanny, valy were all nice and Jaro the manager was good at his job but if he could eat himself he would!! The night time entertainment was ok but started at 8:30 and was a mini disco for an hour followed by an act flamingo/snake/parrot show which were ok and finished at 10:15 to 10:30. There is not much else to do other than go to the piano bar which is quietish with a singer on in the background until 12 or venture out but with kids aged 10 and 8 we thought it was a bit late to be walking the streets. The plus side is in the piano bar they have a games system and internet access for 1 euro for ten minutes which did keep our kids and their newly made friends happy for a while but i didn't really bring them away to play on playstation!! There is a disco advertised until 12pm but this is little more than a sound system left on with no dj in the salon jacaranda with the rooms lights left on.
My one big gripe about this hotel is it is advertised with a daytime mini club and we even checked the reviews from October 08 to see if it was mentioned as being on before we booked as our 8 year old girl needs plenty of entertaining thus giving us a few hours holiday peace, Only when we got there and turned up at 10.30 it was shut! We asked at reception and they told us it was open daily. After turning up for the second day to find it shut we asked lisa (entertainments) who was told by Jaro (entertainments manager) that it was closed all week with no explanation offered. The hotel was quiet the first few days we were there but the last few was a spanish bank holiday and it was very busy but still no mini club! Quiet or not it is advertised and is one of the reasons we booked and until our daughter thankfully made a friend on the fourth day we had our work cut out entertaining her!
All Inclusive
Be aware that this is not as all inclusive as other hotels we have been to. The AI spirits are the worst i have drunk but the tropical beer is ok and there are only a couple of cocktails available. Snacks between meals other than sandwiches of cakes have to be paid for as just has everyting else bar food in the restaurant and the local alcohol. Although you can get coffee and bottled water on AI in the piano bar which is a plus.
Overall I wouldn't return to this hotel but only because it was a bit on the quiet side at night for us as a family and of course the lack of a daytime mini club, we would all dance the night away and there was a disco until 12pm advertised and we also like to visit different parts of the world each year. I would recomend it to couples and also families that don't mind going to bed at 10.30. I should also comment as other reviews have that after 9 days of being pushed in front of in the restaurant and having people walk in the lift and push their button first without asking what floor you want even if you are in there first does take some getting used to and I haven't experienced it this badly at other multinational hotels and I can't offer an explanation.
