“GOOD BREAK”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

Stayed at the Vulcano from 23 April 2013 for one week and all in all it was a good break in the sun. We hadnt been to the resort for the past few years although been on many occasions prior to this and the area is now fully developed and looking really nice.
Contacted the hotel prior to the holiday requesting high floor with evening sun if possible. We were allocated room 799 which was absolutely perfect, top floor with corner balcony overlooking coastline and sunny from mid afternoon.
Had no issues with staff they all appeared pleasant and geneerally helpful. The running of the hotel gives the impression of quite a professional approach which was pleasing and i may add sometimes sadly lacking.
We did not like the poolside and in fact found it quite depressing with row after row of individuals laid under the fixed shades. Many aspects of the hotel are organised with the elderly in mind.
Having stated this, it has to be accepted that the clientele are mainly elderly. No spring chicks ourselves but we felt like the young kids on the block.
Food was good and plentiful although it was typical 4* hotel food and lacked variety in so far as starter options were concerned, i think if we had been for a fortnight it would have been too repetative.
Our only other negative about the dining area is that it was far too cramped with tables very close together which made it 'canteen' dining.
Add on costs for room: 2e per night for safe, 1e per night for empty mini bar, 1e per person per day pool towels.
Anyone planning to stay i am sure you will enjoy it, the positives far outweigh the negatives and it is in a superb position just to the rear of the La paz strip.

Room Tip: Room 799 is a corner suite which has a seperate sitting room and very large double bed, balcony with...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

Stayed at this hotel for 6 nights from 22nd April as sadly our first night was spent at the Bitacora across the road which was not a pleasant experience! We were glad to check in at the Vulcano to room 487 on the side which was nice and quiet. Due to our inconvenience we were upgraded to full board with drinks at lunch and dinner which was very generous.

The only gripe I have about the room is we could only find one plug. In today's world, travellers bring multiple electrical items and I think for a 4 star hotel this is not acceptable. Also I think pool towels should be included too. We have never stayed at a 4 star hotel where we have had to hire towels. Can't grumble at the fridge though for 1 euro a day. It was about 35 degrees when we were there every day so a cool drink was welcome when we got back to the room.

The pool area isn't the best and if the hotel took down what we refer to as bike sheds and replaced with umbrellas it would look much nicer. One pool was heated and was very pleasant but sadly if you wanted a sun bed in the sun, you had to be up around 6.00 am and the hotel did not try to stop this. One day we lay out and watched people return from a day out at 4.00 pm to sit on their towels for an hour, you should be disgraced!!!!!!!!!!!

Food is good but lacks flavour and variety but I think they are catering for their typical guest which for a week was fine but I'd be looking for something more if we'd stayed longer.

The area itself is very nice and money has been spent down on the front where the designer shops and the Safari Centre are. We walked along the promenade both ways for miles and were pleased we had chosen this resort.

All in all we had a good week in the heat and wouldn't return unless the hotel made changes to it's appearance and re-visitied the layout of their pools.

P.S Reception staff were the most unhappy I've seen, they should take a leaf out of the waiters book and cheer up! No one wants to be greeted like that!

Room Tip: Quiet rooms seem to be on the right hand side over looking the 'Best Tenerife' as bars/resta...

We had our 4th stay in The Spring Vulcano Hotel for 11 nights in April and as I said in my last review on this hotel, it's STILL the very best Spanish 4 * hotel we have ever stayed in.

Everything from the lovely greeting at reception, to getting a lovely pool view room on the reception level floor. I can recommend anyone to pay the extra for the pool view rooms, as the safe, 2 x pool towels and gowns with slippers are provided, which all normally carry a daily charge.

The restaurant can only be described as excellent, obviously taking into account that it is buffet service, rather than A la carte. Lots of different choices at both breakfast and dinner. A special mention for the porridge, it was so, so creamy.

The ballroom is lovely, with very good entertainment on most nights and the bar prices are not extortionate, especially if you have a 'Spring' loyalty card, which gives you a 15% discount on all of your hotel extras.

The staff throughout the hotel are extremely helpful and courteous and they work exremely hard. A special mention for Alain the waiter, nothing was too much trouble for this young man. In the dining room I would like to thank especially; Louis, Fabian and Alicia.

The ONLY bad point that I would like to make is about the early morning 'Towel on sunbed' brigade. I was woken up one morning at 6:30am by someone dragging sunbeds around. How pathetic and stupid are these people going to get. Are they going to start putting out their towels the previous night, if someone decides to take their own 'special area. Why is it so important to them to get their sunbeds in a 'particular' area? I even saw on one occasion two beds with little notes on them saying 'Reserved'.Those on the higher level were the worst. Towels out at 6.:45am, but no sign of anyone using thenm until 10:00am and then no one on them again for up to 2 hrs at lunchtime. I even noticed that more than one set were not used until after lunch. Such inconciderate people make my blood boil and the majority were Brit's. So no excuses about it being others to blame there.

I really do believe that the Hotel management should enforce the advertised rules on this. No reserving of Sunbeds.

Well now that I've got that out of my system, I can get back to how good I feel about the Vulcano.

Simply sensational!

Can't wait for our return in the Autumn.

Room Tip: Go for a pool view room.

In the off season, this hotel has everything for a relaxed holiday for those who are retired, those with mobility problems and families with disabled people. Please note though that this is NOT a hotel just for such people. We are not disabled but have visited several times and have been impressed with the facilities for those with such difficulties.

On the ground floor there are rooms to accommodate wheelchairs and we spotted a tilt lift to assist between wheelchair and the bed. There are mobility scooters available which can be charged in sockets in the hallways overnight. The rooms have small 'patio' areas in the shade until late afternoon, which overlook the pool area. Some patio areas have awnings where the shade is limited.

There are two pools, one of which is heated and where you can take part in gentle aquarobics each morning at 10.30am. There is even a lift to help the disabled into and out of the heated pool. The unheated pool was only 2 degrees cooler than the heated one and both pools were only 4'6" approx.

The food choice is always good and hot. Tables can be reserved for those needing space for wheelchairs and the staff are very helpful and understanding.
One minor point is that the hand wash units aren't placed prominently as you enter the Dining Room, so 99.9% of the people didn't use them. They wouldn't be low enough for someone in a wheelchair to use either. We mentioned this to the Management and our Rep. Given the large numbers of people it should be a priority for the hotel to prevent the spread of viruses.

There are plenty of lifts with stairs an alternative, but take care as the stairs are not carpeted.

The large entertainment lounge is fitted with TV screens so that everyone can see the entertainment each evening. The dance floor isn't large but accommodates about a dozen couples unless you're into ballroom dancing and need room to move. If you arrive after 6.30pm you can dance before it gets crowded an hour later. Some of the entertainment is very loud, even though it's excellent, so take some earplugs if it bothers you.

There are plenty of games run by the excellent Animation team throughout the day if you don't plan to visit the area, but try the local buses and buy one of their Bono bus tickets from the local supermarket or the bus station for approx. 15 euros. A family can use the same ticket and it's valid for 1 year. The buses are very cheap and you don't have to worry about hiring a car and parking. There are even free buses taking you to the Fun Parks if you're that active. The hotel is on a corner near a roundabout (traffic island) and the main bus stops are the opposite side of the island, so not far to walk. Or you can take one of the trips organised by the reps of course.

The walk to the beach isn't far and you must see the fountains in the shopping area close by which 'dance' to music each evening at 9pm, 10pm and 11pm for about half an hour.

Everyone there (staff and visitors) are very friendly and we'll be going back again for sure. it's nice to see that many of the staff have been there for a number of years and are always helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: Pool facing, ground floor rooms are ideal for the disabled or families with disabled children. Also...

Just returned from another wonderful stay, really first class hotel. We had booked a terrace room and had the most amazing room on the 7th floor with huge terrace and balcony.. Food not quite as good as in past years but still good selection. Enrique the restaurant manager always a welcome sight and remembers every face... Will definately return however terrace rooms now only bootable through tour operator and not direct with hotel.

We visited this Hotel 12th April 2013 for one week Half board with Thomson. the hotel is very good the staff on the reception and in the Dinning room are all very friendly, Helpful and extremely efficient. The hotel itself is very clean and maintenance of smaller things like replacement of shower heads and pool repairs and maintenance of the gardens within the hotel are constantly kept on top of which all in all keeps this hotel well maintained.
The week we were there and wether this is a general thing or all year around, there were a large number of elderly people in the hotel from say 60 to 80 years old, for myself this is not a problem being the age of 53 , but for the youngsters it may be a bit quiet if it is a general all year around destination for the older clientele.
The Dinning room can get a bit hectic at peak periods but the staff deal with it very well, keeping food in good supply . The food itself was very good with a very varied choice, believe me i know having the worlds worst picky eater as a partner, and even she found something to eat.
All in all this hotel was very good and we would stay there again, a couple of nit picky down points the sun beds have fixed slatted shades above them and not umbrellas which can make you feel as if your sunbathing under a venetian blind and if you want to stay by the pool; you best be up to put your towel on a sun bed early because the best ones go very early. the hotel does run a no reserving sun beds policy but they don't enforce it and the sun beds towards the back of the hotel don't get the sun until about 11.30am. this part of Americas is probably the best position in my opinion, its close to Los Christianos about 20 min walk, it has a great selection of bars and restaurants and a couple of good beaches and the direction is the rest of Playa de las Americas so you have the best of both worlds. By the way girls the Markets on a Sunday at Los Christianos .So have a lovely time we did.

We stayed here for a week in April, and was pleasantly surprised, our room was at the end of a long corridor which meant it was a long way from any road noise, so we slept very well, the food is buffet style with plenty of choice and the best we have had in a four star in Tenerife, the pool area is large and always had enough sunbeds to go round so no mad dash in the morning, the water in the pool is monitored and shows the Temperature, most days it was thirty degrees so very pleasant to splash about in. We like to go for a walk in the evening so didn't get to see much of the entertainment, but what we did see was ok for the age of the guests, we are in our early sixties and we seemed to be the youngest in the Hotel, that isn't intended as a criticism of the clientele, who all seemed happy to have also found this gem of a hotel, we would definitely recommend this Hotel.
