“Excellent Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

Just back from spending a week in the beautiful Vulcano Hotel. I have to say it is one of the most beautiful hotels I have stayed in.The reception is outstanding, with its tropical garden very relaxing to sit and read a book. We booked a double standard room, which was spacious. The bed was very large and comfortable. My only complaint regarding the room is there was only one socket which was in the bathroom, that is ok for shaving but if you want to use an iron it was very difficult as it was beside the wash hand basin, Also it would have been nice if there was tea making facilities in your room. We were half board and were very happy with the selection of food. The nightly entertainment was excellent. The hotel catered mainly for the over seventies but did they put you to shame with there beautiful old time dancing and jiving, it was a pleasure to watch. The cleanness of the hotel was excellent, We found the staff very helpful and friendly. The pool area has plenty of sun loungers,so no need to be rushing down early in the morning to put your towels out. It is also in a great location near the beach shops and restaurants. I would recommend this hotel, you wont be disappointed.

We are 2 golden oldies with a combined age of 162 who booked a 10 day half-board holiday at the last minute with Jet 2. Friends whom we told were surprised that we'd chosen any hotel in Playa de las Americas as it's had a dubious reputation. However we have to say that it was one of the best holidays we've had anywhere in 30 yearss of international travel.
The initial impressions were surprisingly good.
We were dropped off the airport coach in a palm-tree-lined quiet street by the entrance to the Vulcano Hotel's spacious foyer with its impressive internal botanic gardens to marvel at as we checked in.
It got better when we entered spacious room 568 for which we'd paid a small supplement to get a pool view. There was a present of a half-bottle of very acceptable red wine with a box of nuts and dried fruit.
To cap it all, as we sat on the balcony later, we viewed a magnificent.sunset.

These standards were continued at the 4-course buffet dinner in a vast dining-hall where food of excellent quality and variety was displayed. Hot dishes were hot not lukewarm.
There were no fixed tables - you found one that was free and put your room key on it before going to choose your food. The relatively brief list of Spanish and Canarian wines wasn't overpriced, eg a white Rioja was about £8 and very drinkable; what wasn't consumed was labelled with your room number and produced to your table the following evening.
Breakfasts were just as good. There was even very passable porridge!
We didn't use the pools (which were heated and their temperatures displayed). However we did once have coffees and one brandy from the poolside bar and thought they were pricey.

The hotel was very well situated with a gently sloping footpath on its Eastern side down to the seafront promenade about 10 minutes walk away. From there the level promenade continues about 2 miles to the East to the far end of Los Christianos, past the interesting fishing port and various restaurants. A large open-air market is held at Los Christianos on Sunday mornings, but do beware of pickpockets. Along that promenade is the active fishing port and an information kiosk where free maps of the district are available, though the hotel has them too. A very interesting feature that we saw on the promenade was a baffling exercise in human levitation!

Taking a left turn out of the hotel and going straight ahead for 10 minutes brings you to another part of the seafront promenade, opposite the distant island of La Gomera. Here surfers collect. Turning right, ie to the North, along this promenade takes you past a collection of grotty pubs, cafes and shops from the 1960s when Las Americxas was originally developed, but beyond them it becomes more interesting.
Across the road and slightly uphill from the hotel is a bus stop. Passengers need a prepaid 'Bono' card costing 15 Euros from supermarkets and the bus terminus in La Christianos. This they hand to the driver stating the destination required and he/she will input it before handing it back.
Uphill,50 yards from the hotel in a basement, is a well stocked 'Caribe' supermarket stocking Schweppes tonic, Gordons export gin, lemons, all at reasonable prices; drinking water in 5 litre bottles for 1.07 Euros (a bargain) and sandwiches made from delicious bread with fillings to your choice for 2 Euros which make a good lunch. The shop next door sells the current UK newspapers printed in Spain.

A 5 minute walk downhill from that supermarket, with the Vulcano on your right, brings you to a wide main road lined with high class shops at street level, and, across the road, also at basement level. Here is a ladies' paradise where prices are very attractive, but do ask the country of origin as tablecloths, napkins and many other items which appear to be locally made, are often from China. There are also many shoe shops, and vendors of mens' belts where it isn't always obvious that plastic has been disguised as leather. (Both these comments apply to the market in Los Christianos. too).
An interesting and amusing diversion on the North side of that main road at 'Sahara', is a testing minigolf course - or rather 3 of them, - where 'proper' golfers have little advantage.
Nearby,in the evening there is a pretty hour-long exhibition of fountains dancing to music.

And on that subject there is another hour-long free Canarian folk dancing and music show in the City Square on Friday evenings at 8.30 - quite excellent! Get directions from the hotel - it's not far from it
We can't comment on the Vulcano's entertainment which was mainly 'Tributes' to famous artistes as we were generally out. However a lot of guests did attend regularly.

The clientele is mostly elderly British, quite a few with hired electric buggies. Several we spoke to come every year and say the high standard doesn't change.

Finally - the staff. They're real professionals, yet at the same time helpful and pleasant.

The Vulcano's a great base in a prime position. We hope to return.

Room Tip: Pay the modest supplement for a room on floor 5, 6 or 7 with a pool view. We were in the spacious R...

We have travelled most of this world from Europe to New Zealand and we have never found a better holiday Hotel than the 4 star Vulcano in Tenerife. A very nice spacious room, cracking good entertainment every night plus music for dancing, and food simply to die for. So much wonderful food with endless choices, the best we have ever met in a holiday hotel. To match all of this great staff, so helpful and friendly, they simply could not do enough for you. Will we go back? You better believe we will.

Room Tip: Get into the entertainment area early, people do tend to come in from other hotels and take the best...

I was with my wife in this British hotel one week. The customers of this hotel are British seniors. The services and food are designed for them. If you are not a british senior it is better to think is this a right hotel for you. For instance the food is very typical for those customers. The restaurant of the hotel had a vegetarian corner and during many days the main dishes were bacon, eggs and bratwurst. The only green that they served was tomatoes and green salad. no any mixed salads. We thought that the customers will get what the earlier customers have wanted. Therefore it is important that you and me will give feedback and then you can choose the right hotel for youself. The service and the program that this hotel is designed especially for British seniors over 75 year old. We like more hotels where most of the customers are Germans. There the service and programans are punktlich.
The German customers do not accept the service of this hotel therefore they have chosen one of the other hotels

. When you read the feedback of the customers it is important that you notice where they are from. In most cases you want to get service and food that you appriciate.

A good excample for the service of this hotel was the lifeguard on the pool. Her responsibility was also the pool towels, She should come to the pool at 9.30 and then she had the coffebreak before the lunch which started 11.30. After the lunch she came to the pool after 1 pm and then she had the coffebreak before leaving the pool aböut 3 pm.In practice. It was very difficult to get new pool towels during the whole week. Therefore we got the towels our third day and succeeded to change them once during the week. It is unbelievable that she was the only person who could give the pool towel to you. The reception or roomservice could not organise the the new towels.

Overall it is very important that we have nowadays the channel like Tripadvisor where you can give feedback for everything.. You can give feedback for the possible customers and management too.

If you are used for the good servive you do not come this hotel or any other hotel of this group another time.

It is also important that the managent of the certain hotel will answer to you comments.

There are so many hotels on these Islands that you will find hotel where you can get the service that you want.

There are also many new destination that you can choose.

Room Tip: In fact you can see the sea only from the seventh floor.

Dear sir,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write your review on Tripadvisor regarding your recent stay at Spring Hotel Vulcano.

I am very sorry to hear that the standards of our hotel and to know that your recent stay with us was not up to your expectations. I am although surprised that being an active user of Tripadvisor as you are, you never bothered to read any other reports of the hotel before your visit, to learn that the hotel does actually cater for al older generation group, mainly British 50-80 years, so this should have not been a surprise to you.

I am also sorry that the food standards are not up to your requirements, as we pride ourselves in the quality and variety of the food in our chain. We work really hard to keep the high standard and service that have given us the good reputation we have. We take on board all comments, both positive and negative, and I can assure you that we take all of our comments very seriously, here at Spring Hoteles. We receive the monthly customer satisfaction questionnaires from all major Tour Operators, and monitor the monthly scores in each area, and we take the appropriate action whenever necessary.

I am very sorry to hear you will not be visiting Spring Hotel Vulcano again.

Best Regards

We returned for a second visit in February. Had room 488 overlooking pool. This is in the main block, above dining room and bar. It faces South and gets sun all day on balcony. The wings of the hotel on either side don't get so much sun: they have "standard "rooms on the outside that look out onto next door hotels and inside rooms with pool viiew rooms. At the far side of the pool there is a single story row of rooms with terraces, which face north and get no sun at this time of year.
The room was a good size. Bed is at least king size, made of two singles zipped together - it was a bit hard but we slept well. There is ample wardrobe space and a dressing table with 3 drawers. Just one armchair. (The superior rooms are bigger and you get a settee in them.) Flat screen TV - we enjoyed watching the Mardi Gras (Shrove Tuesday) parade at Santa Cruz which is the biggest in Europe. Balcony has two plastic recliner chairs, but no mattress. (We used the spare pillows). Bathroom has bath with good shower over it and also a bidet. In the evening there is a lot of noise outside, from the entertainers in the bar and, much louder, from the nearby bars. However, the double glazing is effective and it didn't bother us. Air conditioning is effective.
Food is good, although we thought the dinner buffet selection was not quite as good as last year. The freshly cooked steaks and fish and the carvery were very good. The fruit juices at breakfast are very dilute, although while we were there they installed two additional orange juice dispensers that were an improvement. We enjoyed the bubbly wine with Sunday breakfast.
There is a good system for paying for all drinks and the food at the poolside cafe. You use your plastic room key like a credit card, and then sign the chit. In the dining room the waiter gives you a chit with a list of what you have bought: when you leave, you give this to the lady at the desk by the door and sign there. You can get a copy of your account at any time from reception, and pay either on the last day, or every few days. If you get a bottle of wine, it comes with your room number on it, so if you don't drink it all you can put the cork back in and they bring it for you the next day.
Because this was our second visit we qualified for a Spring Hotel Discount Card, which gives 15% discount. We had filled in the application for this on our first visit. I had sent two messages to say we were returning via the hotel's website, but it was not ready for us to collect when we arrived. However, this did not matter, because the discount is appled when you pay the bill and we had the card by then.
When you check-in, you get plastic cards that you can exchange for towels for the pool-side sun loungers. In our pool-view room, the price included dressing gowns and use of the safe. However, you have to get a magnetic activator for the safe from reception and leave a deposit for it.
If you want hot drinks in your room, you have to take your own travel kettle and mugs. You can get 5 litres of water from the nearby mini-supermarket for about 1 euro. To get to the nearest supermarket, turn right out of the hotel and it is at the first corner, down steps. There is a cash machine outside and you can get newspapers at the shop next to it.
The hotel is in a good position, with easy access to shops and bars, and not far from the promenade. For a change, we suggest the nearby crazy golf which is in a cactus garden. It is worth walking through it even if you don't play.
The hotel gets a lot of things right and the staff are friendly and helpful. Many visitors return time after time. There is a new comments book in the restaurant and the first comment was from a couple on their 25th visit. It caters primarily for retired people and there are no children's activities apart from a swimming pool. The few children were with family groups including grandparents. The majority of clients are from the UK and Ireland, but there are others from most European countries. This is a big hotel, probably about 600 guests and 150 tables in the dining room. There is a queue to get in the dining room when it opens. We went to dinner an hour after it opened, to give the first sitting time to eat and leave. We never had to wait for a table.

Room Tip: Poolside rooms facing south get sun all day, if this is what you want. Standard rooms are on outsid...

Just back after a week at the vulcano. Firstly, it is a good hotel but not as great as some have made out here! I think it probably has been great in the past but the standards have slipped. The food is just ok, not particularly warm and the choice isn't that wide. The decor does need freshening up and this includes the soft furnishings like the bedspread. The maid service is deplorable. My room wasn't cleaned properly during my entire stay ( i note others have commented on this) The main areas are clean though. The pool area is small and there isn't really anywhere to have coffee or lunch etc other than the pool bar. The service at the pool bar is slow. Your charged for the fridge, the pool towels, bathrobe and there aren't any tea or coffee facilities in the room. Overall I wasn't impressed it was just ok and possibly a bit too expensive for what your getting. I wont return to this hotel.

We flew to Tenerife and the Springs Hotel Vulcano on the 10.02.2013 , we had originally stopped on previous visits at the H10 Conquistador , however had a bad holiday last time , so we looked at different hotels .

All I will say is we found a "goldmine "

I would like first to say thankyou to the staff and the team of Thomson Reps that made this such a fantastic holiday , we arrived and were booked in , and the staff were very polite, speedy and friendly .

We stopped in room 776 on the seventh floor , great views over the pool area , room was nice , a little smaller that I had thought , however very comfortable , all spotless clean , yes some thngs need to be renewed , however spotlessly clean .

Food was excellent , pool facilities excellent , staff, were just great , and you can tell that people return time and time again , as the staff will be seen hugging people who have returned !

I cannot praise the hotel enough , entertainment was good , you do get a charge card ,when you arrive , which I think is a great idea , ( as long as you keep a check on your drinks etc ) if you prefer other things , there are bars around the corner of the hotel , and these are great , especially the Soul Bar .

I would like to pass my thanks to the management of this hotel and the staff who made our weeks holiday , and yes we will be returning !

Thankyou

Room Tip: If you have a choice pick the rooms facing the sea, they get the sun al the day , excellent rooms !
