“Great stay, will be back.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

First stay here and we loved it.
Very fast and efficient check in, probably the first hotel we have stayed in where they do not swipe your credit card on arrival. Everything is charged to your room and you settle up on departure.
Room was spotless as was the whole hotel.I know you don't go on holiday to watch TV, but it was great to have BBC and ITV.
Only thing missing was a kettle, but we brought our own and enjoyed coffee on our balcony whilst sitting in the late afternoon sun.
We loved the "Garden Lobby" where we sat to use the Internet.(Free if you have your own laptop/tablet)
We thoroughly enjoyed the food, choice was excellent, everything tasty and hot,we particularly liked the meat and fish that were cooked in front of you.
We even had champagne on Sunday morning!!
Evening entertainment suited us as we love to dance.
Hotel is in a great location and it is an easy stroll down to the beach/shops/promenade.
We had a really great time and can't wait to go back.

We have stayed at the Vulcano hotel four times, we think this hotel is one of the best in Tenerife, we upgraded to a pool view room when we booked the holiday which was worth while as we were given one that was the size of a small apartment with plenty of room and a 40 inch TV, and a great view of the pool area, the restaurant has an excellent selection of hot and cold food, the staff were very pleasent and helpfull , you could also get a very good meal and drink in the pool bar, the hotel also provides very good entertainment nightly , I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to stay somewhere special for a holiday

Room Tip: Ask to upgrade to a pool view room when you book the holiday

If you enjoyed your stay at this hotel and might return, then get a Spring Card for your next visit, we had 50 euro deducted from our final bill for extra drinks and food. You don't need to use any money in the hotel just charge it to your room.
Location: Next to a decent supermarket ideal for water, milk, papers, cups etc. close to 2 money exchange and excursions offices. There is a walkway past the supermarket that takes you to a number of English and Irish pubs with night time entertainment and sports coverage, to the right of the pubs there is an open air drinking area with live entertainment, and also a decent mini golf for afternoon entertainment. Carrying on down the walkway you will come to a small beach, the sunbeds are not very good as they don't adjust, going left is a larger beach, which has more facilities, better beds, more eating places, 12 euros for a pair of sunbeds and shade, you can walk into Los Christianos from here.
Hotel: The hotel was very clean, plenty of seats in and around reception, computers with internet (1euro/15mins), downstairs playing card area and pool table (2euro). Excellent staff throughtout the hotel.
Room: We had a pool view, which is very quiet, a room on the outside of the building might be noisey as it could be close to the pubs, and might not get as much sun as the pool view rooms, our room was spacious, 2 good firm beds, good sized wardrobe, bathroom and safe, and mini fridge 1euro/day, and spotless. The tv was a good size with a good choice of english progs. Our friend could not get ITV reported it, repaired in 30mins. Best pool view rooms are in the middle block, high floors, ie: 772-792 or 672-692.
Food: We always managed to get a table for 4 in the restaurant, I thought that the food was of a good standard with ample choices, was never disappointed.
Bar and Entertainment: Service was pretty good, no need to mess about with money, just give them your room number. The entertainment is mainly dancing for older clients, with a guest turn between 10pm-11pm, bar closed at 1am.
Pool Area: The heated pool averaged about 24 degrees, snacks at the pool bar were very good, reasonable price.
Outside entertainment: The Drunken Duck is always a good place to go, to get a seat inside, before 9.30pm. We went to a show at Decades (mini-golf), called Bitter and Twisted, 25euros for 3 course meal and the show, excellent meal and show, loads of room to sit. Thought it was excellent value for money, would have gone to the other show but had to come home.
The hotel is excellent for any couple who wants a holiday away from children and noisey people.

I had received good reports regarding this hotel but was bitterly disappointed with just about everything. We were kept awake the first 3 nigts by excessive noise and only received a change of room after great insistance; and only then after having been subjected to extremely rude treatment by the reception staff. The standard of the rooms were 'tired' with threadbare sheets and chipped furniture. The food was of poor choice and invariably only just warm. Many guests were complaining; some of whom said they had been there many times before but this was the last time. None of the manangement were interested in the guests complaints. We were awakened fefore 7am every morning (whilst stil dark) by guests dragging their favourite sun loungers into position.

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel!

Have just reurned from 2 weeks at the Vulcano hotel 1/01/13 to 15/01/13 no change as usual the standards are very high and the food excellent. So much so you are spoilt for choice. You can even arrange to have a meal or 2 at any of the sister hotels or just go for a change of scenery. Am waiting for the travel agent to call back as we are all booking again for next January 2014. Will say one thing this hotel is not for the younger aged couples.

Stayed at the Vulcano 8-15 January. Were allocated a room on garden/pool level with its own patio and sunloungers. Were also supplied with dressing gowns and slippers!! We did not book this Superior Room but were very pleased to be allocated with it on arrival. These roomns are primarily for use by disabled guests with wheelchairs so are at least twice the size of a normal hotel room. The hotel itself is beautiful and very well maintained by extremely helpful, pleasant staff. We were very surprised ti find it was slightly cheaper to drink in the hotel bar in lovely surroundings, than to drink in most of the local bars so that was a plus. Evening entertainment wasn't bad and it was nice to see so many people dancing and enjoying themselves. YES, it is mainly used by older people but they certainly do know how to enjoy themselves!! The only downer was the food. You won't go hungry but it is definately not 4 Star standard. We spoke to lots of people that have been going there regularly for years and they all agreed that the food standard has dropped dramatically. Location of the Vulcano is great, easy to walk anywhere from there and the local bus service is also very good with bus stops virtually outside the door.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

My husband and I stayed for a week at the Vulcano (4-11 January) and had a most enjoyable holiday. We had stayed in this hotel many years (about 18) ago and felt the hotel had improved its standards (though it was really good from memory even then) and the resort of Playa de Las Americas had also improved as there were many new shops (quite a few designer shops) and good cafes/restaurants. The resort is all on the flat, not at all hilly, so very suitable for all ages.

While the hotel caters largely for the older guest, we felt this was if anything a bonus as it was a very nice, friendly - and not noisy - clientele. In fact, some reviewers sound positively 'snooty' or 'snobbish' about older people staying at the hotel! My goodness, we'll all be elderly soon enough (though I'm only in my early 50's) and I wouldn't like to think as I get older that some younger guests would feel I was a hindrance!! I thought it was lovely that many disabled and elderly guests could relax in and enjoy the comfort of such a lovely hotel. If you are more comfortable with a younger age-group then stay somewhere else like their sister hotel the Bitacora.

The staff at the Vulcano are friendly and attentive, our room was spacious (with a balcony) and very comfortable and the hotel buffet, both morning and evening, was excellent both in range of food and in quality. Steaks, chops, fish etc are cooked on demand to your preference.

An added bonus to us was that there was a different stall on the way into the restaurant every evening and sometimes mornings too, selling local goods: jewellery, scarves, bags, leather goods, Aloe Vera products etc. and I found these to be really good value. I bought quite a few presents to bring home - well done to the hotel for doing this - it's a great idea. It not helps to promote small, local traders but is also an attraction for visitors like us. I couldn't wait to see what type of stall would be on each night! (I confess, though, I am a bit of a shopping addict!).

We went on 2 organised tours - one to the Sound of Musicals - a truly excellent show (4 hours, great value), very entertaining, though if I was going again I wouldn't book the meal as it was very disappointing and not worth the money. We also went to a 'Medieval Knight' which was excellent - so well organised in a purpose built castle with a great atmosphere. This time the meal could not be faulted: soup and roll, chicken (beautifully roasted), baked potato and steak were very substantial and washed down with a bottle of white and a bottle of red wine!! Children get chicken and chips and soft drinks. Can't say fairer than that! Thoroughly enjoyable show, especially if you are, like me, an equestrian fan. The evening was rounded off with some flamenco dancing so a very good value night out!

I would totally recommend this hotel and the resort especially for some winter sun. Many retired guests were staying 3 weeks or more...oh to be retired! I would definitely like to go back!

Room Tip: We stayed on the second floor overlooking a neighbouring hotel which suited us well enough but proba...
