“A really good 3 Star Accomadation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Review following a week at the Marola Portosin.

We arrived at the apartments at around 9pm and was greeted by a welcoming receptionist. Check in was quick and painless, however take note that you will have to pay a room deposit on arrival – this is 30€ per person aged above 11 years old. So with 4 of us it was a bit of a grumble. We didn’t want to give over 120E on the first day as we would not be able to change it back to £££ afterward. We compromised on leaving £120 sterling instead – better. We hired the safe for the week at a cost of 15€ and 10€ deposit. We used the reception to hire a car for 2 days and this was 78€ - cheapest we found whilst there.

I had emailed the hotel the week before and requested a high floor in a quiet location and this was delivered. Brilliant

Room:

We were on the top floor with a pool view in a one bedroom apartment (401). This was a perfect location for us as the balcony was huge and the views really good. Enough chairs and a table for everyone in the room. Room comprised of a bathroom (small bath and shower, you will get quite equated with the clingy shower curtain). No mould anywhere which is good. Large sink and mirror with free hair dryer on the wall. Loads of towels to use.

Kitchenette with the usual amenities of a 4 ring halogen cooker top, pots and pans, kettle, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. Enough cutlery and crockery for 4 people in our room with proper Mugs for coffee!! Large breakfast bar, the kitchen table did sit 4 easily. Sleeping area for kids (2 of) comprised of a sofa bed with pull out single bed on floor. I never tried them but the kids seemed to walk OK the next day so must of been good.

Bedroom was of a good size with built in wardrobe with enough space for 4 peoples clothes and hangers a plenty. 2 single comfortable beds, a dressing table and mirror. A ceiling fan in bedroom but it did squeak and rock from side to side somewhat, called reception to fix and they came within half hour. Personally a squirt of WD40 would of worked wonders. Because of the squeak reception bought us a Fan free of charge. Wonderful.

Safe was in lounge area and was large enough for the plethora of Kindles, iPads, iPods, Phones, PSP’s etc that came in tow. One thing that was missing was the lack of electric sockets to charge the above for mentioned apparel. Never mind, we coped and argued who’s turn was next to charge what appliance!!

Maid service not on a Wednesday or Saturday. Clean towels everyday and bed sheets 2 times. Maids were lovely though and spoke good English.
All in all the room was perfect for us. Tip: wear flip flops as you feet will get filthy if you walk round bear foot all day in the room. Maybe a good mopping wouldn’t have gone a miss?

Pool:

Great pool and nice and warm – loads of comfortable sun beds to choose from and they were not plastic – Result!!! Pool bar was nice and food very cheap. However, at 4pm everyday a hooter/siren goes off and the staff shout ‘Happy Hour’... You have seen the adverts for other holiday companies where everyone runs to the pool? Well Happy Hour was somewhat like this but people running to the bar!! Well maybe not that bad.

The clientele of the hotel were mixed but mostly from the UK. On our 2nd night the families from hell checked in and as it was their first day they overdid the ‘Happy Hour’ and got louder and louder and more annoying as the day went on..... I say family but there must of been at least 18 of them!! They went back to the room when the bar closed at 9pm and continued to party on the balcony with loud music and vile language. To be fair the receptionist did come and tell them off a couple of times and that did the trick for the rest of the week (I’m sure they wouldn’t want to lose their deposit of some 550€).

Location:

Perfect for us, close yet far away enough from the main areas. Bout 15/20 walk to Veronicas (If you like that kinda thing?) and 10 min to beach. Large Mercado Supermarket about a 5 min walk away selling cheap food and general stuff. Only a 20 min transfer from airport so nice.
It’s graded as a 3* - That’s about right but I’d put it as a good 3*.

Would I stay again? Yes, I think I would.

Stayed from 6th - 20th July booked with jet2. What can I say that hasn't already been said in all the reviews, excellent place to stay pity we didn't see this 1 last year. Took 2 mins to check in & wasn't asked for the deposit of €60, but asked for our passports, our room was on the 2nd floor, balcony overlooking the pool, bathroom with shower, clean towels & tea towels when needed, everything provided in kitchen for self catering, fridge (but no ice-box) kettle, toaster, coffee maker, microwave with grill, flat screen tv with 4 channels movie channel. Rooms cleaned 5 days a week, sheets changed once a week, pool area cleaned everyday, bar food very nice and drinks reasonably priced happy hour 4-5 buy 1 get 1 free. Bar closed at 8 so noise was minimum. Staff & cleaning staff were very helpful & polite. Las vistas beach, bars, restaurants, shops & supermarkets very close, just a short walk to Los Cristianos,Lorol park & jungle park excellent day out, we even enjoyed going out on a yacht for 3 hours looking for dolphins & basking Wales. Just be careful not to get caught up in time-share its not time-share but something the same trying to get you to buy an apartment & it takes 90 mins or more off your holiday they only go for British married holiday makers so be aware, they tried it with use but we got conned last year so we new what to expect. Next time we plan on going tenerife this is the hotel for use really enjoyed our stay you are made to feel welcome, pity our flight back home wasn't this enjoyable

Just back from a week at Marola Portosin, my husband and I and 2 kids, (17 + 19). First time to Tenerife and very impressed. As per other reviews, the staff are all very friendly and helpful, 24hour reception. Rooms spacious and kept very clean by the maid service 5 times a week. We were however, surprised to be asked to pay a 30euro each deposit when we checked in. We had not been told or read about this before our arrival, so take extra cash for this. It is given back at the end of your stay when you check out.
Would highly recommend a visit to Siam Park water park, it was a fantastic day out with brilliant rides.
Beach and restaurants very close by, easy 10minute walk to beach front and restaurants over looking beach were lovely or turn left and walk into Los Cristianos. Would definately recomment this place and would love to go back.

We have just returned home from staying at the mar ola portosin and all we can say is what a FANTASTIC place to stay. All staff are very friendly and very polite and very helpful. Pool area, sunbeds were cleaned every day, plenty of sunbeds available.. Rooms cleaned 5 days a week, also with clean towels on these days.
Tommy and Kitch at the bar are absolutely fantastic, very friendly, polite and helpful and their banter is class. They are highly skilled with juggling serving food and drink.
There is a supermarket just down the road. There is plenty of places to eat nearby. The kids loved La Bussola's pizzas. The beach is a short steady ten minute walk which is nice.
There is a lovely chinese called the Golden House just up the road near The Corner Bar which is also a great place.
Definitely recommend this hotel and cant wait to go back.

Stayed from 9-20th July and were very impressed. Went with Jet2 Holidays for a brilliant price, and was pleasantly surprised at all the good reviews that we read before we arrived.

We were not let down when we got there. It is just enough out of the centre to be away from the hustle and bustle but not too far a walk - and only a short stroll into Los Cristianos.

We were a young group (6 x 21/22 year olds) but not a rowdy bunch. We found that some other groups didn't have the respect we did in returning from a night out but nothing too extreme.
The hotel was always exceptionally clean - the room cleaned and serviced many times during our stay and all the staff very friendly. The room also came with all manner of bits and bobs that you wouldn't usually get at this price, such as a microwave etc (there were other things but my mind's gone blank).

Tommy at the bar is brilliant, always friendly and chatty and makes everybody feel very welcome.
One place I've been where I can categorically say I would love to go back!

Room Tip: Most rooms I believe face on to the pool area - can't say that I would choose one room over anot...
