Booked trip through www.lowcostholidays.co.uk, 1 week - all inclusive - 2 adults - £89 a night (42.50 each)! After reading reviews had mixed feelings of what to find on arrival. Photo's on this site do not give much justice to the bungalow itself.
Bungalow/complex very clean, well equipped, kitchen with microwave/fridge/hob/coffee maker no kettle but just as quick to boil a pan of water at hob heats up very quickly. Bathroom also very clean with a hairdryer, wet room type style (just a very powerful shower no bath) 2 x hand & 2 bath towels, 2 small bars of soap but no gel/shampoo dispensers. Bedroom was a twin room, single beds, very comfortable and firm (more like three quarter beds), pillows plump and firm, big double wardrobes with 3 drawer chest of drawer one side and safe (cost 12 euro's for 1 week plus 12 euro's deposit which is refunded at end with your reciept as proof). Air conditioning is 6 euro's a day also. Bungalows have own patio area with table and chairs and two sun loungers.
Arrived late evening dinner still being served and returned to bungalow went for breakfast the next morning and returned to find a bottle of Rioja, fruit basket and 2 bottles of water on the coffee table (gratis)! Maids cleaned rooms each day apart from Wednesdays and Sundays. The pool bar opened daily (approx 10am) and also had a Grill Restaurant which was open from Sunday to Thursday evenings but you had to reserved a table at reception.
Okay meals, these are taken at the hotel Il Rondo (hotel lopez chain) - opposite, there was a variety of food on offer, LOTS of salads/bread, a daily fish dish, paella seemed to be every other day, and lunch/dinner seemed to have similar offerings (i.e just as much at either), there was also soup available. Chicken, pork and french fries also seemed to make an appearance regularly and food was all thoroughly cooked from what I tried. Canarian night was on a Friday. Oh also to the rear of the restaurant was a chinese buffett which did a few chinese side dishes and about 3 main dishes and rice, puddings were selection of cakes, jellies, fresh fruit, ice cream. Breakfast was typical of any other you'd find in hotels - eggs-fried/scrambled and boiled, streaky bacon, mini sausages (not english type), churros, beans, grilled tomato, bread, cheeses, meats, dried fruits, cereals, fresh fruit, cakes/pastries, yoghurt etc. Drinks were available for all inclusive guests - tea/coffee/juices/water in morning and lager/wines/fizzy drinks, all of which you helped yourself to. (Also a tip - make sure you stir or rotate the food over - from bottom to top, as the top layer can be a just warm whereas underneath is hotter).
The hotel runs a daily shuttle to the local beach/dunes and also one over to Melonaras.
Internet access in the reception at Il Rondo and entrance to the bungalows 1 euro for 10 minutes.
Hairdressers - run by a lovely Norwegian man - onsite, 25 euro for a shampoo, cut, blowdry.
Water machine also onsite at Il Rondo take your own bottle to top up for 20 cents a litre, so slightly cheaper than the cordillo supermarket at the top of the road.
From what I could make out the guests from the Il Rondo could use the Miraflor facilities and vice versa - pool/bar etc. The kids entertainment was second to none, sadly I went with my own Mother who wasn't impressed by the nightly party dances or the kids enjoying themselves (but then she doesn't like kids), however seeing how good a time they were having with the children made me miss my own more as they would have loved it! However the entertainment team was not just solely entertaining children it also tried to entice the other guests with various games/quizzes and were also around at dinner time to greet guests to the dining room. Il Rondo main bar - The Pub - only opened in the evening the older bar man looks a bit miserable and seemed more interested in the football than serving so mainly used the pool bar at the Miraflor - both of which are open to 10:30pm, which seemed the norm for all the hotels in the area. (oh don't worry about the ice in your drinks, it bagged ice not from a machine/local water).
Okay although we were all inclusive and did get a bargain price I did look around at other restaurants to see how much it would have cost had we been self catering. Having not been abroad to a spanish destination for about 2 years I found we saved a small fortune by going all inclusive, you would possibly look to spending around 5 euro's for a cooked breakfast anything from about 8 euro's up to 14 for a main meal and about 3-4 euro's for a sandwich.
Okay as for the resort/area surrounding the hotel, I can safely say given the area, the bungalows do stand up to their 4 stars, however, the area itself is generally unkept, dodgy paving slabs, run down buildings etc. Let's just say if you're looking for somewhere 4/5 star resort you're better off looking for something in Melonaras! However if you want to stay in this area the Yumbo is 5 minutes walk away, However if you're only looking for an evening out (drinking/clubbing) go after the shops close as I found all the shop staff all very pushy - hassling you to go in their shop I even had one grab me by the arm and march me into his shoe shop despite telling him I took a 43 and him not having any womans shoes that size! If you are looking for less hassle in a shop then there is also a small shopping area called the Gran Chaparal (turn to the right at the top of the road and a few minutes walk down on the left), I got the best priced/cheapest duty free's here,(miles cheaper than the Yumbo) I forget the name of the shop (something salu, i think) - basically it's not the first one you come to with all the watches in the window but the one more so on the front of the shopping complex with fridge magnets outside and perfume in the front windows. Also here you will find a few bars and if you are looking for English I can more than suggest The Britannia - gives free wifi and free use of telephone for calls to England, and Paco the barman is great. If you are going to chose to eat here the prices are very good and also overheard him say to another customer that if there was anything they'd like that wasn't on the menu they'd try their best to get it. Also next door but one there is The Windmill pub, who has the delights of Dominic the Barman, who is evermore a great host, although it does not do food on the premises you can order from the Britannia menu and eat it in the Windmill. Both have english TV - soaps/bgt etc........
Okay I could comment on the weather (82f+ while I was there) how quiet the area was this given week. But this is all unpredictable.......to sum up, Would I go to the hotel again - yes, ticked all the boxes for me, I was dissapointed/saddened by the surrounding area (think it's had it's day), the hotel food is edible and fresh, the staff at Miraflor and Il Rondo were second to none. Any questions - just ask.......
