“3 star price = 3 star service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

We were at this hotel for 8 days in early September. The welcome at reception was extremely friendly and helpful, as it was throughout our stay.
Instead of staying in the hotel itself, we were offered the choice to move across to the adjacent Miraflor Bungalow complex. This is a four star complex of bungalows with stunning interiors, a lovely pool, bar and restaurant. We took a look but decided to stay in the hotel itself as the bungalows seemed more family orientated, the patios overlooked each other, and there's no view (the hotel balconies have a lovely view over the resort).
The hotel rooms are spacious and include a kitchenette, although they could do with a little updating. Carpet tiles on the balcony floor was a little strange!
The housekeeping was not great - the sheets were not changed during our stay, though the towels were.
We were there on an all inclusive deal. As good as this was, sometimes we felt like second class guests. We were "branded" with a orange band to wear around our wrist. At the bar we were given small plastic glasses, whereas the half board guests were given bigger, glass glasses. At dinner all inclusive guests were left to serve themselves some pretty awful wine, local beer or soft drinks, whereas half board guests were served at the table and had the option of spirits also.
On the matter of the restaurant, it was acceptable for a three star hotel, but this does not mean that the food was great. The quality was ok, but was not very tasty. The main restaurant was essentially two, a buffet Chinese counter and then the main section with good selection of salad bar and reasonable hot food selection. Sometimes we did find that the food was not as hot as we'd have liked though.
Since the hotel was sistered with the adjacent Miraflor Bungalows, we could use the grill restaurant instead by making a booking, so we did this a few times. The food selection here had not as wide selection, but it the quality was most definitely four star.
We also used the pool during the day, since it has better quality sun loungers and the pool is generally higher spec.
We returned to the complex in the evening where there was more of a buzz and where all the nightly entertainment took place.
In the hotel itself, there was no entertainment and the bar at night played some rather depressing love ballads, hence us going to Miraflor for the evening.
We'd stay again, but only if some improvements were made. That said, the price was a three star price, and it's true what 'they' say: you get what you pay for!

Had a nice stay in this hotel..

Location is great for the Yumbo centre and easy for bus to and from the airport.

Food was great and the all inclusive was fine.

Rooms were nice but no aircon and as its on a busy road with cars blowing horns etc not ideal to sleep with doors open so this was a big downfall but we knew before we went.

We prefered to use the sister hotels pool as the pool here is small and not that nice.

All in all a nice hotel

I, along with my wife, teenage son and daughter, stayed at the Rondo for 10 nights from the 24th August 2012. I feel I owe it to the hotel staff to write this review, as they were by far the friendliest I have ever known, at any hotel I have ever stayed at. Unfortunately, our son suffers from a very serious nut allergy, so, whether at home or abroad, the understanding of the hotel staff to his condition is very important to us. We needn’t have worried at all as the treatment my son received was excellent and far better than anything we have ever experienced in England. Upon arrival, the reception staff remembered the e-mail sent by our tour operator and immediately introduced us to the head waiter, who, in turn, took us through to the restaurant and made the chefs aware of the allergy situation.

Throughout our stay, all of the key staff members in the restaurant looked out for our son and made him personally aware of what he could and couldn’t eat. A special thank you to the head waiter Simon for the help he provided. In addition, thank you to everyone from the ultra-helpful reception staff, jokey waiters (lots of Barca versus Madrid banter), friendly barman (namely, the legend that is Juan) and chamber maids as they all made for a very positive holiday experience.

The hotel itself is in a great location. The beach is just about walkable but there is a free shuttle bus that runs to and from, several times each day, so, no problem. The shopping centres are close by (but not too close) including the main Yumbo Centre and there is a market twice a week which can be walked to but some might prefer a taxi for around 4 Euros. All in all the resort has a very nice feel about it and feels very safe walking around late at night. There weren’t too many Brits in either the hotel or the resort which was OK but we could have done with a bit more friendly banter, especially in the hotel, but instead suffered a lot of humourless Germans and French (not all but most) which I guess is a cultural thing. The Brit guests we did meet in the hotel were fantastic (hello Stewart and Doreen).

The hotel is a bit dated and would benefit from a revamp as it is kind of stuck back in the 90’s but is very clean and well maintained. The food was generally very good. There is an option to eat Chinese within the restaurant which was pretty decent or to eat at the Miraflor next door which did a mean steak cooked to order. My biggest criticism would be that the all-inclusive ended too early at 10.30pm which led to a last minute rush at the bar each night which provided good entertainment (for my witty English humour that is but not for everyone). Watching our European cousins, very seriously, trying to get their last orders in was quality as they did not at all see the funny side of the situation. One barman trying to serve 20 people in 5 minutes was crazy. Personally, along with my fellow Brits, we weren’t bothered as we’d been drinking since 10.25AM anyway!

Great hotel with a good holiday feel about it with staff that go above and beyond.

Room Tip: Ensure your room is poolside of the hotel.

We stayed at the Rondo for 9 nights from 25th August.
Our party consisted of 3 adults a 9 year old and a 1 year old.

On arrival at 9pm the receptionist who greeted us was lovely and very helpful. He made us feel very welcome.

We ate most nights in the main restaurant. The food was OK although it became repetitive and i found the kids ended up eating pretty much the same thing for lunch and dinner each day. A wider variety of food, especially more fresh fish, would be a benefit. There was a Gran Canaria night which had live music and there seemed to be a lot more food choices available. The staff in the restaurant are fantastic and made us feel very welcome. They always smiled even when they were really busy.

We ate at the Mirafloor one evening. It wasn't good. The restaurant is sooo hot and the food choices were poor. However, the staff in this restaurant were also lovely.

The entertainment was not great. The reps worked really hard and were lovely but the shows were poor. There was no kids entertainment at all at the Rondo, everything was over at the Mirafloor which meant that there was nothing to keep the kids entertained during the day. I think it would be better to split the entertainment between the 2 hotels rather than having nothing at the Rondo at all.

The rooms were very nice. We had clean towels every day and our linen was changed twice. They could definitely do with air conditioning but it is Gran Canaria and you are aware it is going to be hot when you book so booking somewhere without air con is your choice and not the hotel's fault!

Overall this hotel is nice but is made into a lovely hotel by its friendly and attentive staff.

Would we go back? Probably not as we will be booking somewhere with air con for next year and with a good entertainment program.

Having said that we did have a lovely holiday and met some lovely people (Scottish and English) and would recommend the Rondo as a nice place to stay.

Just stayed here for a week with my 14 year old daughter - hotel only seems to cater for German and Dutch guests. Rooms were clean and tidy but bed linen was not changed at all during our stay and towels only changed twice in the week. Rooms desperately need air conditioning - we did ask at reception for a fan but apparently there were none available so we have to suffer every night the traffic noise by having the doors open. Our request for a late check out room was also refused - we were given the use of the shower room and supplied with two hand towels to dry ourselves on! We were never informed of the fact that we could use the facilities at the hotel over the road. Food is boring and service in the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired - our drinks bill arrived one evening 10 minutes before the drinks were served and on one evening we were never asked if we wanted a drink at all!

I stayed at the il Rondo for a quick and havent got a bad word to say about it! All the staff are lovely, the food was okay and had a variety of choices. You can use the accommodation over the road were all of the entertainment was where we started speaking to other guests from the hotel! Only thing I could say was, there needs to be more sunbeds by the pool as you were trying to fight for sunbeds and we noticed there were a lot of unused sunbeds on the roof terrace which could be used around the pool, apart from that it was really good!

Room Tip: Make sure you get up extra early to get a sunbed!
