“Fantastic base for exploring the Island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

Clean and basic... just what you need for exploring the fantastic island of Gran Caneria.. we were greeted by the friendly staff on arrival and shown our rooms... 2 bedrooms, bathroom, lounge and kitchenette, nice and clean with fresh linen and towels.... We were overlooking the pool from the third floor and so had a very nice view of the local sunsets... Playa beach is a 10-15 mins stroll.. and the bus stops to all other destinations is on the roundabout 100 yards up the road.. Just ask at reception for the bus number... The pool bar is an experience not to be missed ... the kids loved the slushies and ice creams... me ... the fried breakfasts.. very reasonable and well cooked... another bonus is that .. the beer is ice cold all day long.. Another plus is the Yumbo Centre just 250 yards up the road.. loads of resturants and shops.. our kids loved the Cabaret shows with the wonderful Drag Queens parading around the streets... just go with an open mind.. fantastic holiday..

Very small negative - is that due to the location near the bars and clubs it can get a bit noisy from the road outside.. but we had no trouble sleeping most nights after a hard day at the beach and pool...

All in all we went for a family budget holiday in the sun and were pleased with our choice of the Barbados Apartments

Room Tip: Email them for requirements... we went with friends who booked separately and we emailed for rooms t...

Very friendly staff, especially the lady at the poolo bar, very entertaining. The appartment was pretty basic with 2 twin bedrooms. The place was clean enough but rather uncomfortable, the beds are very hard and uncomfortable as are the lounge chairs. Stayed here for a week and felt ready to go home to comforts. The yumbo is a 2 minute walk around the corner which can cause some noise in the early hours, i suggest sleeping on the pool side of the apartments. Although the beach is not that far away, it is much easier in the heat to get a taxi for a couple of euros. There are plenty of places to eat that are just on the doorstep and I can reccommend most of them, especially the chinese in the yumbo!!!

We arrived at this complex late at night to find our room was like something from "Rising damp". We had no balcony as this had been boxed in like a greenhouse with glass panels with 2 small windows that opened but allowed no air into the room at all. We had to wait 2 days to get a change to a slightly better room which was still very much at its peak in the 60's. The complex has 2 pools but one was out of bounds due to the state of it. Threre was 3 cats in residence that constantly drank from the pool and all the tiles were broken and scattered around the floor. The other pool was a little better but due to half of the complex being privately owned and people in permanent residence thre was constant pressure to relocate away from the string of parties that were being thrown around the pool. The noise coming from at least half the rooms was unbelievable.( try having subo and other acts being belted out on karaoke until 4am every night). We requested a late check out but were finally told on our last day this wasnt possible due to a clerical error which had overbooked and there was no convenience room as this too had been let out last minute. The lock room for cases had been changed to an office so everyone booking out had to leave cases etc in the reception all day till pick up. The resort has a very large gay population which is more than fine and adds to the fun factor but within the yumbo centre their is also a range of very seedy and over the top clubs that are strictly men only with what is called a "dark room" which is very innappropriate for a lot of people. (use your imagination). Almost all the shops in the yumbo centre seem to cater one way and its towards the sale of large phalices in different guises (e.g. bottle openers, pens, sex toys etc) the only plus point of the whole area is a pub/restaraunt called the red cow which is just past the yumbo centre which also has a fun bar underneath called shenanigans and is really family freindly and great fun. All in all i would describe our stay as torturous and we were all glad its over and we are back home and we will certainly not be staying in playa del ingles again. Not appropriate for kids or families and in truth the barbados should be gutted or torn down. People be warned!!!!

Great holiday, basic 3 star accommodation but was clean, maid service was good. Apartment was quite well equipped compared to some other hotels I have stayed at. Reception staff were pleasant and helpful, good pool never a problem getting a sun lounger when you wanted one, pool bar was great for food and cold beer. Becky who ran the pool bar was an absolute star. Really had a good time. As long as you are not expecting 5 star quality and you go with the right holiday attitude you will not be disappointed. Handy for the Yumbo centre, Kasbah centre not too far away either and beach about 15 minutes walk away. The Red Cow pub and Shenanigans are little gems and well worth a visit. Would I go back again? yes I would without hesitation!

Stayed here with 3 friends for 10 days and was pleasantly surprised - absolutely superb location within a minutes' walk to the Yumbo centre and approximately 10 minutes to the beach, with many many many different bars and restaurants to choose from within the immediate vicinity too.

Very clean rooms which were regularly maintained by cleaning staff. The shower was very disappointing however but adequate for a quick wash. The pools are very deep and so those who aren't confident swimmers or don't swim at all, it's not an option (depth of 1.8m). Staff were very friendly for the most part but seemed to lack local knowledge.

There is wifi in the hotel but it is VERY hit and miss and highly dependant on where your room is located - it's also expensive, €6 for one day's access although there are cheaper long term deals. Signal kept dropping out but once you found a reliable spot, it was ok.

The real issue here is the lack of air conditioning; I guess it's not something you can expect given the hotel's price band but given we stayed in high season, it was almost unbearably hot in our bedrooms and because of the hotel's proximity to the main roads of Playa Del Ingles, once you opened your windows, it was very very loud.

Overall it was a perfectly adequate place to sleep, get changed and wash but that's all you can really expect from it given its price. Wouldn't mind staying there again if I had to.

We're just back from the Barbados Apts and after reading some reviews prior to booking I was a bit sceptical. We travelled as a family with 3 children. The apt was very clean, I counted 12 fresh towels in the bathroom which were changed on a daily basis except Thursdays and Sundays when the housekeepers are off. Bed linen changed most days....depending on the maid. Last week the refridgerator wasn't working properly, my husband went to reception and within half an hour a new one had arrived. We were woke around 5.30 alot of mornings with the party goers returning home, but wasn't a huge issue. Becky at the pool bar is full of chat and always happy to see you. You have to visit El Gaucho restaurant I think it called. In the Kasbah area. Food is fab and very reasonable and kids meals are free. One place I would not recommed is the Peking Wok not far from the hotel, the staff are so ignorant. Its a buffet and my daughter didn't eat on the evening we were there. When I explained this he made me out to be a liar, I had stated she had a small pot of jelly to which he charged me 2E. I was furious and asked for a manager at to which no one would answer me and I was shouted at to get out...... but there's always one.....needless to say we didn't go again. Anyway this hotel I would definitely recommend, we met some Irish and English families and we had a ball. Alot of tears going home.

Room Tip: We were in room 318 which is a corner apt so we had loads of balcony space.

It is a pleasure to know that the work of our team and the apartment facilities are to their liking. The fact that our customers appreciate our efforts is a great incentive to keep improving.
We are looking forward to having them back again when they return to Gran Canaria.
Sincerely,

Returned from this hotel last week, was there with a group of 12 friends between the ages of 18 and 23, the apartments are spotless, cleaned 5 days a week (not cleaned sunday and thursdays).
the set up of the hotel is quite weird, u walk downstairs through a tunnel to get to the reception, then upstairs in a lift to the bedrooms, takes a while. The area is quite goo, yumbo centre 5mins away with all the shops and gay bars kashbah centre 7-10mins away with the better clubs, be sure to visit china white. The beach is 10-15 minutes away. quite hard to find at first, took us over 30mins on the first day, Gran canaria is VERY dry and sandy almost like a desert, the restaurants are not great, I'd suggest u eat at the restaurants on the beach, better deals and food. But overall the hotel is very comfortable AND NOT AT ALL LOUD, which surprised me as I was expecting to be awake all night, being the oldest of the group In spent the majority of the holiday resting and found the hotel very peaceful, and u certainly get what u pay for,
