Just back from our 3rd year at Las Margaritas, we had a fabulously relaxing holiday, the First Choice Childrens club was brilliant (well done Childrens Reps - Claire, Kristie, Luise & Becca).
The accomodation was spotless, but very 70's. The food wasn't all that bad even if a little repetitive at times. The entertainment team this year were the best we have seen, while the quality of the shows hired by the hotel has deteriorated, they were shorter shows and not of the same quality that we have seen in previous years. The entertainment team led by Baldo and Nick were fantastic, they had activitiies around the hotel pool all day and performed shows (Grease and Comedy Show) twice a week. Baldo's AquaGym was a big favourite closely followed by Bingo at 16:30!

There were a couple of things that annoyed us this time, the pool and ground floor wc's are not clean. The staff in the restaurant and pool bar can be rude to non Spanish speaking customers, we were shouted at by a waitress on our first night for sitting at the wrong table! The other thing that annoyed us was that they started removing the sunbeds as early as 17:00 when there was at least another hour of sun to lounge in.

This year there is a distinct difference in the profile of patrons in the hotel, there are a lot of Spanish families spending weekends there so expect it to be very busy from Friday through to Monday. During the week there is no problem getting sunbeds and a leisurely stroll to the pool at 9am will probably guarantee a sunbed.

Overall, we had a great holiday, but we won't be going back because, apparantly, Las Margaritas won't be in the First Choice brochure for Summer 2010, there is a new hotel in Meloneras that is replacing it so we intend to check that one out instead.

I was not impressed! Overall good holiday but my criteria to travel agent was 4 star, good all inclusive, good nightlife.

It is clearly a 3 star, and the rep admitted they are downgrading it later in year to a 3 star, feel rather cheated when I have paid £700 for a week ! (each!). I want some money back. Rep also said the hotel have been told of the compaints time and time again but dont improve anything.

Bad points: v.rude staff, food poor and not much choice compared with other AI hotels. you cant have the same drinks as the paying guests, nightlife is dead at the moment, v.exp due to euro (go egypt much cheaper!) Entertainment didnt seem to be in english!

Waterpark rip off .

Wanted to use a iron for 10 mins on last night - wanted 12 euros !!!!!!!!!

Good points - sun , although was overcast couple of days. plenty of sun beds. top pool better.

also dont bother with beach - rip off as well!!

This hotel should be downgraded to a 3 star in its present form.

Check in verged on shambolic- 10 minutes to get a room and then when we got to it, the bed was still unmade!

The room decor was akin to a Travelodge in 1995 by UK standards. The carpet was full of sand even once vacuumed! The furniture had marks from coffee cups and one of the drawers was broken, as was one of the curtain hooks.

Bathroom was clean from a distance but again there were hairs in the corners. Wiped rather than cleaned should give you the right idea about the sink and bath.

Wi-fi was available at a charge but only in the lobby. Come on Barcelo hotels - this is meant to be a 4 star hotel and its 2009 not 1999!!!

The one saving grace about this hotel is the food. Definitely the best buffet of any Spanish holiday hotel I have stayed in. However, the didning room staff are truly AWFUL!!! Ordering you around if you dare sit at the wrong table...

Pool may have been great but we never managed to get a sunbed anywhere near it as the beds were in use... ie used from 9am-11am and 3pm-5pm but with only a towel on them from 11am-3pm. Yes, there are some very inconsiderate people around!

When we checked in and went to our room - it was a disabled room where; the toilet door was broken, the airconditioning wasn't working and the TV didn't work. Our rep managed to change our room, and it was fine.
We went as an all inclusive package - and were not made to feel very welcome at all. Everything we were 'intitled to' (in our all-inclusive package) was a hassle to get. There were set times you go get bar food (even though other non all inclusive guests) could get bar food when they wanted. Waiters and waitresses were rude and it was one rule for us and one rule for the Spanish guests. You had to get your own drinks all day and night! Certain brands of drinks that we were intilted too - you had to keep requested as the bar staff would keep them behind the bar!! You had to pay for beach towels to be changed if you wanted a new one!!! (After a €20 deposit on each beach towel). The hotel was fully booked the day before we came home and the hotel staff could not cope at all. The restauant was manic - no plates, bowls, tables...a complete nightmare - we were glad to come home. Certainly would not recommend this hotel and would never go back.

I returned last weekend after spending a week on an all inclusive basis. I must admit it was a late booking and this resort would not have been my choice, but flights were limited.
On arrival we were given a room on the 3rd floor. It had a nice balcony overlooking the pool - the compliments stop there! The room was tiny - I've since looked at photos on trip ad of the rooms, Im not sure where they were ,but ours was nothing like that. There was 18 inches round the bed and that was it - you couldnt pass each other (and we are not fat). The room was fairly clean but was very tired.

On entering the restaurant it was like a pensioners outing! It was full of Spanish OAP,s who spend all evening eating so it was very difficult to get a table. If you did it would be short of cutlery and you had to chase round to find some as the staff were so rude - unless you were Spanish. The food was ok, a bit repetitive and sometimes only luke warm, but on the whole there was always something edible.
Entertainment was poor - luckily there was plenty of vodka to numb the pain!
The hotel is 10 minutes walk from the resort so is nice and quiet. We didn't go to the beach, but understand that there was a bus as it was quite a walk.
There were 2 pools, the main pool was pleasant but was very shady. The other pool is up at the apartments and is where you need to go if you are a sun lover. I have noticed comments saying that there is a tide mark around the pool - its not, its where the paint has come off. The pool and grounds were very clean and tidy and staff were constantly doing the gardens - they would be better used in the restaurant.
All in all, we had a relaxing week in the sun, which is what we set out to do.
If Im honest the hotel is ok, but definately not 4 star - low end 3 at the best.
