We returned on th 21st Of July from a two week stay in the Barcelo self catering apartments. Upon arrival we were dropped off at the Barcelo Hotel next door and left to it. The hotel receptionist then informed us that we had to haul our suitcases to the apartments own reception in the building next door - at two am with two sleeping children and four suitcases we could have done without it - the rep from first choice gave no information on the coach or any on dropping off the passengers!
The apartments were as we expected and had pleanty of storage space - the balconies are spaceous and although the apartments could do with modernisation on the whole they were clean and fine.
The maid service was fine as well - they cleaned the room every day and replaced the towels.
As we were in the apartments we could use either the apartments or the hotel pool - we preffered the hotel pool as the entertainment was organised from this area, however it is shaded in certain areas due to the trees and you will have to move about a bit if you want the sun all day. Also be aware that people place their towels on the sunbeds as early as 8am and so if like me you want to be poolside then get up very early.
The poolside snack/bar is fine I didn't eat there but having spoken to some all inclusive guests they said it was fine. The drinks for non all inclusive guests however are very expensive - 5euro for a smirnoff ice, I bought them for 1.95euro in the local spar and had a couple on the balcony!!!
The evening entertainment wasn't for us but each to their own.
Overall it was a good base for us - a long way from the beech and the crowds but as our family enjoy walking to our entertainment it suited us, there is also a free shutle bus to the beech for those who dont.
The first choice kids club was great - it ran enough times a day for all and although my kids refused to go most days, on the days they did fancy it, they enjoyed it.
My biggest gripe was that some of the staff on the reception were very rude, to the point of talking to each other and visibly ignoring you for up to five mins, which was a shame because other reception staff were so helpful and happy to give information - I found this to be the same at the pool bar in the hotel grounds. One thing to look for also is that as a paying guest I was served and others like me before the all inclusive guests, as you can imaging this did not sit well with the AI guests.
On our last day as usual we were to leave the room at 12noon. At 8.30am I went down to reception to book my husband and our two children into the courtesy room, I was rudly ordered to come back at 9, Again at 9 I was rudely ordered to come back at 10am -at which point I refused and demanded to speak with the hotel manager, I was then informed that I could book the room for half an hour - when I asked if it was possible to have an hour as there was four of us the receptionist shoved a piece of paper at me & informed me it was not possible. I noted however that the paper had only two other guests written in for the room!, at 6.20pm I went to reception to collect the room key and a very helpful receptionist informed me that no-one was booked in the room straight after us and we could take our time. Its a small complaint but not one I could be bothered with on the last day of the holiday.
I would however happily stay here again - I didn't use the facilities on offer such as the gym, sauna etc but could have If I had wanted the grounds are kept clean and tidy and there were no horrors to report.
The entertainment staff from the Barcelo were a really good bunch and happy at their work. There was shuffleboard, water polo and archery etc, and the aquaaerobics are a good laugh. There is also tennis courts and other things on offer but as my children are quite young we didn't really involve ourselves.
Overall we had a good time.
