“Second time this year!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

This was our 6th visit, and 2nd visit this year. We arrived on our 28th Wedding Anniversary. We were greeted with a glass of cava, and the porter, who after checking in took our luggage to our room. We booked with Monarch Holidays, and could only book a street view room so we had already e-mailed about upgrading to a pool view. The extra charge was paid direct to the hotel, 7 euros per person per night, so for 3 people 294 euros. I think the street view rooms had a lot of building work outside of them. The pavements and roads are being upgraded.
The hotel was excellent as always. The staff are all wonderful expecially Eva, Christian and Ursula, (the manager). Also Fatima, Romano, Louis (Pool Bar), provided an excellent service. We asked for some robes, more pillows and BBC was not working on our TV, all were sorted out quickly and efficiently. In fact all of the staff including cleaners and pool service were professional and courteous. They also recognised us from our previous holidays.
The food and drink were of a high standard, with different themes most nights, including Chinese, Mexican, etc. There was always a carvery and show cooking in the evenings. The desserts are so lovely, and my favourite was the penguin cakes. On my last day Eva, came to our table and brought us all a plate full of them.
As recommended by Ursula, we also drank lumumba, which we enjoyed.
You can hire pool towels for 10 euro deposit, you can hire the safe for 2 euros a day.
There was daytime entertainment for all ages, including french bowls, table tennis, darts, rifle shooting. There was also evening entertainment.
Yet again another wonderful holiday with great food and drink and management who will always go the extra mile to provide all holiday makers with an excellent service, that is why so many people return every year just like us.
We are planning on going back in March for our birthdays and in August for our wedding anniversary.
A special thank you to Eva, and looking forward to next March.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a pool view room.

this was my first holiday abroad and my daughter, grandsons and myself could not have chosen better. We were treated with courtesy and all of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and so much of it !! It was a short walk to the beach and local shopping centre. Rooms were very clean and well furnished, and had plenty of room. The pool was super, once again kept very clean, the only complaint was the water football took too much time and spoilt it for swimmers. Evening entertainment was good and varied, family orientated. We tried to book the rooftop Jacuzzi but unfortunately it was fully booked for the entire holiday, perhaps a second one is needed. Overall this was a fabulous holiday which I would recommend. Well done Ursula and your great team.

This was our first visit to this hotel and have to say from reception to housekeeping and garden departments and restaurant/bar staff would do anything for you and always had a smile on their face, nothing was too much trouble for them or any staff you approached. They would always be polite, friendly and always made you feel welcome.

We celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary whilst there, our table was decorated beautiful. We had champagne and cocktails which was lovely. Absolutely stunning and thank you to the staff concerned who my husband arranged this with.

The hotel is well laid out and had different things going on in the daytime for people to join if they wanted to although no pressure at all. Water polo was a favourite with our daughter and i did the aqua gym a few times. The evening entertainment with local acts was outstanding with amazing shows. The bar staff were very hard working as sometimes we didn't need to go to the bar for a drink, they would come to you.

The pool opens at 8.45pm so there is no rush to get up at silly o'clock like some hotels and always managed to get a decent sunbed wherever either around the pool or up on the terrace. There is a nudist area if you wish for it on several floors but to be honest it didn't bother us as you see nothing and it is all discreet.

Food was a bit hit and miss for us. My husband is a Vegetarian and found it difficult sometimes, there is plenty of salads etc but perhaps a bit more selection of hot food may be a choice in the evening as we did find it very samey daily. I was suprised there was no selection of meats on at lunch time as a bowl of soup and a sandwich would of done me but on asking the chef he did get me some slices of ham but the only bread available was a roll so didn't like to push my luck although they would have accommodated my request had i asked. That was our only gripe and at lunch time some food was not labelled and as my husband who is a vegetarian is allergic to fish so it was difficult to tell with some food if it consisted fish, so he kept well clear. Overall we got by for the week but did eat out a couple of times to have something different.

The rooms were very good - our daughter stayed on the 5th floor and we were on the 9th floor having asked for a room change on arrival, as single beds were not on our 1st wedding anniversary agenda and we also like to share a bed!! So we had a lovely room with a double bed a beautiful pool view room and very spacious room and if we went again, we would ask for the same room due to its location within the hotel complex.

The beach is 5 minute walk away and very central for the Yumbo centre and Kasbah if you want to venture out at night like we did a few times. It was literally 10 minutes up the road. There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants should you want them and open in the evening if you wanted a stroll after dinner.

Overall despite a few niggles - had a fab holiday and yes we would stay again but ask for rooms above the 6th floor due to trees now towering the below floors so you don't get any sun on the balcony nor a pool view and your room is very dark..

Thank you Ursula for a lovely holiday and hope to see you again soon.

Room Tip: Choose rooms from the 7th floor up due to high trees towering the below rooms - sitting on your balc...

It’s great to hear that you had fun with our animation program and enjoyed the shows in the evening, as well as the rooms.

I’m sorry the choice of the vegetarian food wasn’t clearly labelled every day. Please do not hesitate to ask the chef or our service team, they will be glad to assist.

We also wish to thank you for your room suggestions and are sure that future guest will appreciate it as well.

Thank you again for choosing our hotel and we hope to see you soon again.

This was our second visit to this hotel and we were so glad we went again. The staff just cant do enough for you. The hotel is lovely and the food is to die for. They had entertainment for everyone from aquagym, water polo to darts, tennis and french bolls to name a few. The evening entertainment is fantastic with some amazing shows. We recognized most of the staff and were delighted when they even remembered us and came to say hello before we noticed them. The beach is a five minute walk away and the views from there are wonderful.Had a massage in the wellness center which was sooo relaxing and tried to hire the jacuzzi terrace but we left if too late so we will just have to go back again to do this next time.

Room Tip: Rooms 5th floor and above have a better view of the lovely pool.

Just returned from a weeks holiday at the sandy beach hotel. Was greeted by staff at reception with a drink when we arrived, check in very quick and smooth. Codes for safe and Free wifi was given without having to ask. Room was clean and roomy, bit old fashioned but had everything you needed. Full range of tv channels for everyone. Great power shower. Food in room on arrival with bottles of water. Room overlooked pool but could only see palm trees and no pool view- disappointed really. Pool was lovely and warm but was a little small. Had to queue for sunbeds. Queuing started early at 8.30 and some had reserved on- not sure why. Food was brilliant, great choices every meal time. Seating area rather small and if you like a table for two you need to time it just right otherwise you will be seated with somebody else. Staff really lovely and attentive. Only one bar round pool was serving refreshments which meant having to wait on several occasions, would have been nice to have a second area to get a drink from. Hotel was only five minutes from beach. Bars and restaurants there.
Playa del ingles is a rather tacky resort and if you want more up market then maspalomas/ melanaros would be much more suitable with its rows of designer shops and lovely
seafront scattered with lots of restaurants.
The service at the hotel was brilliant and would recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in playa del ingles. Glad to be home though.

Stayed here at end of August, flight arrived two hours late but when reached the hotel was greeted with glass of sparkly and food in the room. Hotel brilliantly clean, food fantastic, no complaints whatsoever, pool lovely and warm, service excellent from all staff. Lots of English channels on tv in room if you fancy a break from the sun. Weather a little too hot for us at 35 degrees. To get a sunbed round the pool people were queuing at 8.25 but only opened at 8.45. This hotel is mainly German guests but not a problem.
Location wise it's not too far rom beach and bars, restaurants. We did think that we would be able to walk from hotel to melanaros but it is too far and we are used to walking a lot.
Taxi is less than 5 euros each way. Melanaros is definately the place to stay with designer shops and restaurants, similar to costa adeje in Tenerife.
Although I would recommend this hotel I would not return to gran canaria again, Tenerife is more for me.
