“Room to improve”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2012

This was my 3rd time in Gran Canaria having previously stayed in Maspalomas. I travelled with my wife, her sister and her partner. We arrivied at the hotel around 10pm, we were not offered a welcome drink, nor were we offered for our luggage to be taken to our rooms. Slightly disappointing considering other reviews.

Room/Accommodation
A reasonably large room with balcony, two single beds pushed together, coffee and tea making facilities, hair dryer, tv, a large wardrobe and a large bathroom with shower only. The room was decorated to a decent standard however the pillows were absolutely awful! If you require a safe this will set you back 14e.

Entertainment
This was one of the hotels biggest let downs for me. Very rarley were there any decent acts on. I spent two of the seven nights eduring some sort of fashion show with models of a more mature age walking up and down terrace showing off locally made dresses. Not how a 27old wishes to spend his evenings, and I think the older German couples were of the same opinion. However it quickly became a joke to clap people returning from the toilet walking down the catwalk rather than watching the actual fashion show.

Drinks/Bar Staff
In most cases the bar staff were pleasant. However there were occasions when some staff were very ignorant especially when it came to getting a drink around the pool.
At meal times expect to have to ask several times in order to get a drink order processed.
However,my group tipped several staff and like the flick of switch it changed and we had more drinks on our table as soon as we had finished the others.

Food
Plenty of variety. Excellent standard and not a bad word to say. The chefs were very pleasant and very quick to take your order. However, in the evening you felt rushed to eat your meal and vacate the table due to volume of guests and the limited number of tables on the terrace.

Pool
Unless you get up at the crack of dawn, dont expect to get sunbed by the pool. The pool area is clean, tidy and you can relax without any foreign music playing at 100 decibels.

Would I stay again? Maybe, but I don't think I'll be heading back to gran canaria in a hurry

Dear Seaside Sandy Beach Guest,

Thank you very much for reviewing your stay in our Seaside Sandy Beach**** on Tripadvisor.

We are delighted that you spent relaxing moments, with your family, in our pool area and enjoyed our delicious food to the full.

We feel very sorry that to you and your family were offered neither a welcoming drink nor a luggage service. We really apologize for the inconveniences.

Furthermore it was much to our regret that our entertainment programme was not up to your expectations. Regarding our rooms we have to tell you that we advice our guest in our hotel descriptions that the safes are not free on charge and ask for your appreciation/understanding.

Once again we wish to thank you for your honest words and would be pleased to welcome you again on Gran Canaria and at the Seaside Sandy Beach**** on future holidays.

With best regards

My family and I (Partner and 18 month old son) have recently returned from a week’s holiday at the Sandy Beach hotel, after reading some of the poor reviews thought only best to add our reports.

We could see any reviews relating to family rooms so were hesitant on asking for one, however when we arrived 10pm, we enquired about a family room and were upgraded to room 230 free of charge. The staff on arrival were extremely friendly and had arranged for cold meats and a bottle of wine to be in our room as we had missed the evening meal.

The Room - had a large living area, separate bedroom, kitchenette and a large bathroom with separate shower and bath ideal for the little one. The rooms location was perfect, next to the pool and the children’s end at that and with easy walking distance with no stairs to the restaurant dining area. The view wasn’t amazing, but it was of the gardens. We had a late check out room due to little one in 329 where the view was of the pool, nicer but no separate rooms for little one to sleep.

The Pool – Never gets busy, but the sun loungers do! My advice with the sun loungers is to get up for breakfast at 8.30 and place your towels on the sun lounger at 9. The ones next to the kid’s pool were perfect getting sun and shade. Miguel the pool attendant can’t do enough for you and is very friendly. When around the pool be prepared for some SIGHTS!! I took board shorts and was in the minority, a lot of budgie smuggling going on pool side! The pool bar was a nice touch and we always seemed to be sat amongst fellow Brits, though everyone was friendly and chatty.

Restaurant & Food – The food here is 5* lots of variety, though not a lot for kids. The meals changed every night with a theme night. You won’t go hungry here or thirsty for that matter, the staff are prompt and were great at bringing out high chairs for us.

The Staff – Well they make the hotel what it is, friendly and helpful always going the extra mile. If you have children they will be made a fuss of and nothing ever seems too much for them as I said Miguel around the pool is great at bringing out towels and mattresses and works like a Trojan. The reception staff were great as well, going out of their way on our last day to arrange a late room for us, which wasn’t our original room.

I have a few niggles with the hotel, but they didn’t spoil the holiday –

Long Trousers – For Dinner in the evening you have to wear shorts past the knee or long trousers, WHY I DONT KNOW? I didn’t pack trousers and a couple of comments were made by staff! I am on holiday so just ignored it. First Choice didn’t advise us and I felt that this rule was silly!!

Smoking – Restaurant areas should be marked non-smoking and special measures shouldn’t be made for German female tour operator staff that want to smoke cigars whilst eating. (There was a long table used to their group meet) they sat puffing away! I hate people smoking when others are eating the restaurant should be split!

Food – Cold meats not put out at lunch time. Cold meat salads would of been great at lunch, we had to make our little one ham sandwiches in the morning at breakfast for the fridge.

Beds –Mattresses to hard in our room, didn’t sleep that well.

Entertainment – We were there off season so the children’s program hadn’t started yet, but we let our little one dance in the main entertainment.

Overall a great hotel to visit and a great holiday, one which was made by the staff at the hotel! I wont be going back again as I never holiday in the same place twice, but if I did I would certainly go again.

Room Tip: The higher rooms will definitely offer the best views, but family rooms offer separate living for th...

Just returned from fab two week holiday in this hotel. Could not fault it. Standards came up to our expectations and atmosphere surpassed our expectations mainly due to the friendliness of the staff whose service was excellent to mention a few Paco(barman) Emillio Kristina Claudia Eva and many more who helped to make our holiday most enjoyable. The food was excellent and most important hot, drinks good quality, rooms spacious and beds comfortable.Resident entertainers Jorge Paci and Sony provided excellent entertainment and most of the professional shows were of a high standard. Hope to return in October 2012

I was so delighted from my stay here over the Christmas/New year period, that I brought back my parents with me this time. The hotel and the food are always as great - not cheap, but an excellent quality overall.
If you want a no worries relaxing holiday, that's the place to chose.

I want to especially thank the Manager Ursula Matas, for her dedication to make this stay an unforgettable one for my parents. She even offered my mum a pot of Cactus marmalade to bring back home.

The personnel was always lovely to my elderly parents and that makes a great difference. If only the waiters could speak a bit of french (io. always trying german) that would be utmost perfect.

A great thank you also to Miguel the pool assistant who never stops running to please the guests.

We will be back ! And encourage anyone going to Gran Canaria to stay there.

Room Tip: Always try to get the upper floors - minimum floor 6 or 7 as the 2 first floors are "undergroun...

We stayed at the sandy beach end of april for one week, the same time as Andy J and have to agree with his review totally. Un-like the last review our room was already booked for new arrivals, but this was not a problem as the staff on reception said if we booked out early they would give us a new room for the day. This ment that we also could enjoy a full day of eating and drinking ( this ment so much having been at other hotels just waiting to leave ) A big thank you to all the staff, would have no problem in booking this hotel again .

We returned home two days ago after a fabulous week at the Sandy Beach. We were pleased that all the good reviews were accurate (and that the negative ones were a little bit nit-picky to be honest). We had a lovely, relaxing time at the hotel. ALL the staff were efficient but also very friendly. We had no problems at all waiting for drinks at meal times and if the barman at the pool bar had to go and retrieve glasses etc, he was not gone for long.
The hotel was always spotlessly clean as was our room after its daily visit by housekeeping.
Our main reasons for staying there were the reviews about the food, the reviews stating that guests had returned on numerous occasions and also the fact that the Manageress had bothered to personally reply to most of the reviews on this site.
I have to say that we were not disappointed when it came to the food. Really, really nice. The choice of All Inclusive drinks was not bad either. We like our wine and found the 'house' wines not too bad at all.
Yes, it can be said that there weren't too many English voices among the guests but for us that was a good thing. We don't really want to travel away from the UK on holiday only to be surrounded by accents from back home.
If watching television is a big part of your break (not sure why it would be), most of the channels are in German or Spanish (there is BBC World News, Sky News, Sky Sports 1 plus CNN and a couple of other news channels in English). But, the televisions are flat panel and have multiple inputs (scart, HDMI etc etc) so you could always take a portable DVD player and DVD's and plug it into the telly perhaps !
On our last day checkout time was 12pm but the coach was not due to take us to the airport until 18:30. Six and a half hours of waiting in the Reception lounge loomed. BUT, a quick word at reception and they said that we could keep the room until we had to go and could also use the All Inclusive facilities until 5pm with no further charge. So, rather than rushing to pack, it was back on with the sun tan lotion and back to the pool, then onto lunch, then more drinks and cakes and coffee at 3pm. This made such a difference and also gave us more or less another whole day to enjoy the sun. Obviously we were lucky that the room was not required for any new arrivals later that day but still, the hotel staff could have easily said no ! Thank you for that, it was very much appreciated.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much. We have stayed at numerous hotels around the world and this is one of only two that we would book to stay at again if we went back to the same location.

A special thanks to Soraya (hope that's how you spell her name) who was always very smiley and friendly in the restaurant and also Nina who cleaned our room so quickly and efficiently everyday. Plus both the Pool Service men who worked so hard putting out the sunbed mattresses and towels everyday.

We had booked a cheap hotel for 14 nights. We waited for a room change but never got any service for that. After spending a couple of nights there, we had made decision to move.
We saw Sandy Beach from our hotel and went there to book a room. And we were lucky: we got the best room we could imagine: highest floor in the center of the building. We had sun on the balcony for whole day. The room was also spacious with nice furniture.

We took all inclusive and that was suprising good. The buffets in the breakfast, lunch and dinner we all the time so good quality and choice so varying that we never got bored for eating.

There were also many sun terraces and sauna department were you coul see the sea.

Good class hotel, we came so pleased new customers. Remember it is not cheap but good.
