I stayed at this hotel with my parnter for the gay mardi gra 4th-10th may, chose this hotel for location as it is across the road from the Yumbo centre. Hotel itself is nice but the poolside is on a busy main road is very noisey no good if you want to relax, also the sunbathing area can get a little cramped. When we arrived we were given a room which was abouta 10min walk from reception and was right on the main road which of course was noisey due to traffic volume. We has requested a pool view so complained about the trek and the noise. The hotel staff were very helpful and did get us a room on the monday which was closer and nearer the pool. The hotel food was excellent although breakfast wasnt good if your looking for hot food but dinners were great with plenty of choice and staff very pleasant. Hotel entertainment was poor but that is a matter of taste, didnt bother us as we were there for the free entertainment at the yumbo. The hotel ran a free bus to the beach at Playa del Ingles. Overall the hotel was good but would not go back due to traffic noise but great for location.

There are more luxurious hotels in Gran Canaria, but many of these charge 3 or 4 times the rates of the Riu Don Miguel. And there are some cheaper options, but in my experience none of them offer the reliable quality of the Riu Don Miguel. Basically, this place offers decent accommodation, a high standard of cleanliness and good quality food at an extremely reasonable price. What more could you ask for in a three-star hotel?

Dating from the 1970s, the building itself is functional rather than pretty but the rooms are well furnished and kept spotlessly clean. The location across the road from the Yumbo Centre suits those who want to make use of its nightlife options, and the hotel attracts a wide range of ages and nationalities, with a good mix of singles, couples and groups of friends (as befits its location, it's also very gay-friendly). It is, however, not best suited to families, as facilities for children are quite limited, so I reckon kids would potentially be quite bored here.

Both breakfast and dinner buffets are way above average for a 3-Star hotel in the Canaries, and the staff in the dining room are friendly and welcoming. One thing that particularly impressed me was that the General Manager was always around at meal times, chatting to her guests and generally checking that things were up to standard.

Those who like to spend their entire holiday just lounging by the pool may find the pool area a bit modest, but most of the hotel's guests probably prefer the beach. I think they do provide a bus service, but it's only a 10-15 minute walk to the main beach promenade of Playa del Ingles, or a good half-hour walk (partially across the dunes) to the naturist beaches near Maspalomas. The pool is however perfectly adequate for a quick swim after walking back from the beach, or for the odd day's lazing around when it might be too windy on the beach (which does happen).

I'm currently looking forward to my third stay here in the autumn, and would happily recommend to anyone seeking a well-run, conveniently located, unpretentious hotel at a great price.

Hotel Don Miguel in Playa de Ingels we booked through Thomsons the rooms are spotless and good size, towels and beds changed very regular the staff are very helpful the food is very good with two sittings the Hotel is mainly Gemans and Dutch not many English people. outside it is next to a very busy road with a lot of noise the pool is ok but we never went in it, there is a bus from the hotel which takes you to and from the beach you can walk it in about 20 minutes, across the road is the Yumbo shoping centre with shops restaurants and bars The Entertainment at the hotel is very poor Local buses are very good to get around

We have just stayed at the Don Miguel for a couple of nights before moving into our rented house.
The hotel is unfortunately situated on a very busy main road and on a roundabout. The traffic noise is quite bad so ask to stay in a room overlooking the pool where the noise is less but you can still hear it.
The area around the pool is squashed and not that pleasant.
The hotel as with all places in Playa del Ingles is dominated by non British.
On the good side the rooms are spotless and of a good size. The whole of the hotel is very clean if a little dated. The staff are very helpful and pleasant. We booked direct with Riu and only paid £35 each for half board which is amazing value for money. The food at dinner was acceptable but no brilliant. Breakfast was okay too but again not as good as Riu Palace hotels but then they are more expensive.
