This was my 8th time in the resort and this year my friend and I decided to go all inclusive and got a good deal at the Riu Waikiki. The staff are really friendly - apart from one miserable waiter in the restaurant who was rude to several guests on more than one occasion - and are more than happy to help in whatever way they can. The food was good, lots of choice so something for everyone. You might wonder why I only say average for this hotel.....well, as friendly as the staff were and we saw several of them out and about in the resort so naturally chatted about the hotel. The one thing they all said was that their superiors made it clear that priority at the bar and restaurants should be given to the german guests. I did experience this a few times a the bar when part way through my order I was left standing with half a drink whilst the barman left to serve someone else. We also were on the receiving end of the aforementioned miserable waiter in the restaurant when on our first night (having not been told about the seating arrangements at dinner) we were escorted mid dinner (and mid mouthful) from our table and made to walk around until they found us another table to sit at...all very embarrassing but the hotel manager was absolutely brlliant and couldn't apologise enough.
Unfortunately I'm not an early bird so didn't make it down to the pool much before 9.30am which caused problems in getting a sunbed as there were all reserved by this time so we made full use of the complimentary coach to and from the beach (a very nice touch as it's a steep hill towards the beach)!
All in all our holiday was fab hence why we keep returning to the resort but I won't be booking to stay at the Riu next year.
