We actually were not supposed to be staying here as we had booked the sister hotel ,Caserio in Playa del Inglés. Due to a booking error by the tour company we were sent to Caserio and they had no knowledge of us at all. They were highly efficient at the reception, and explained that they were fully booked but had spaces at the San Agustin beach Club which belonged to them also. We were sent on our way and on arriving at the Beach Club we quickly realised that we had got a right result !! The hotel is right on the beach and has an exit directly to the promenade that takes you into Playa del Inglés. The hotel only has 54 rooms and is delightfully decorated to resemble an old wooden boat with portholes and loads of brass fittings. The rooms are a good size with balcony overlooking the beach. Other reviewers had mentioned the mattresses being uncomfortable.....they were not far wrong ! It was the second most uncomfortable hotel mattress that I had ever slept on. I had to roll a blanket into a long tube to stuff between the divan and the mattress to stop me rolling out of bed and thats how it stayed for the 10 days of our trip!! Also, if you need a hairdryer, then take your own. The hotel item is so poor it needs binning. Apart from those two niggles, a very clean, well furnished room with excellent air conditioning and toiletries free of charge. The safe you have to pay for ,and is €2,00 a day. WiFi is free in the reception but you have to pay to have it anywhere else in the hotel.
The breakfast buffet is excellent and there is everything that you could possibly want to eat, including smoked salmon most days as well as a good selection of hot and cold foods, freshly sweezed juices and loads of fresh fruit. The dinner is what we loved. Originally we had booked half board in the Hotel Caserio with the intention of eating out in the evenings or staying in for the buffet if the fancy took us. The food in the Beach Club is á la carte and served at your table....so much nicer than getting up and down every 5 minutes. We ended up eating in the hotel 8 out of our 10 nights and the food was superb. If you want plates piled high and to stuff your face and try everything thats going, then this isn´t for you. This is refined dining with helpful and discreet staff making each night a delight wondering how the German chef is going to surprise with his innovative combinations of flavours and outstanding presentation. It is really excellent !! My only other compaint is that the two bars stay unattended for long periods of time and you can spend ages waiting for someone to come and serve you. I know the hotel is small, but a simple bell system to wherever the staff hang out could be all thats needed on that score. We didnt try the spa and it appears you have to book treatments as the spa staff only seem to come when there are clients booked in. There are two pools - one salt water and the other is chlorinated. Both are spotlessly clean as is the whole pool area.
The area of San Agustin is fairly quiet ,but there are some nice restaurants within 10 minutes walking distance. In the San Agustin commercial centre there is a very good Greek restaurant and also two very popular pizzerias/Italian cuisine places. You wont go far wrong staying at the beach club, especially as it is really adults only, although there were a few kids when we were there. It is not designed for children and there are no activities for children. If you want night life then Playa del Inglés is a 10 minute ,€5.00 taxi ride away.

2 weeks at Beach Club in Augest. Fascinated! Unique design. Very clean, very quiet. Liked the staff, espesially the young lady-receptionist! Not too much people, free space near the pools. For people who prefer to stay apart from the bustle with 4-stars+ accomodation!

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel for a week at the beginning of July. The hotel was decorated in the style of an old cruise liner. All areas were very clean. The rooms were reasonably equipped although it would have been nice to have tea/coffee facilities. Our room was at the end of the corridor overlooking the pools with the sea off to our left. There are a few rooms that look at the car park at the side of the hotel. The hotel was very quiet and we had no trouble getting sun beds whatever the time of day, except for the Saturday before we left when non hotel guests were using the pool facilities. There were signs telling guests not to reserve sun beds, and none were reserved. There was only one child staying in the hotel during our stay, although we were told prior to booking that it was a adult only hotel. In fairness there is nothing in the hotel for parents with children. The breakfast was buffet style and 'a la carte' at dinner. Drinks had to be purchased separately. Our only complaint was that the hot food was only warm. Some meals were not very palatable. We could not fault the staff, whom were Spanish/ Canarian. German and from the Netherlands. They were mostly very friendly and attentive. In particular Alain on reception was a lovely, friendly and helpful man. We missed his humour when he had time off. The Hotel is ideally situated right on the beach and a 30-40 minute walk into playa del ingles. A lot of the bars and restaurants were closed up and would have been hard to find many restaurants to eat in. The clientele were on the whole older Germans with only a few other English guests. The comments made by other recent reviewers seem fair. Would I go to this hotel again - Yes, most definitely.

Room Tip: Make sure you pay for a sea view. Ask for a top floor room.

I would NOT class this hotel with a 4 star rating purely because the food on occasions was NOT edible. The website described the following for dinner, 'there are two possibilities, one in the main restaurant with terrace, or in the exquisite a la carte restaurant 'Beach Club' , but the latter was not offered to us, and was no where to be seen ! The menu was more haute cuisine and the meat & fish were severely undercooked on several occasions. There was a buffet at Breakfast and twice a week at dinner when there was a BBQ. Many times at breakfast, items had run out long before the time was up and were not replenished. Also the free wireless internet which was only available in the reception area was almost non existence with a very weak signal, yet the paid wireless was a significantly better and was only pertinent to 1 device and could not be shared by any other device.
Good Points
Good cleanliness and decor throughout
the hotel, including the bedrooms with efficient air conditioning. Well maintained gardens and pool areas with comfortable sunbeds.
Bad Points
Even though the hotel only had a maximum occupancy of 57 bedrooms, service in some areas suffered due to lack of staff.

Room Tip: We had a room on the ground floor overlooking the gardens with partial sea view, which was excellent...

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013 via mobile

My partner and I have just returned from this hotel. Our stay was hassle free.

The staff were all very kind and one girl in particular was a big help in advising the best places to eat.

The hotel is very clean and very quiet. It's maybe 4 star for Spain, but it felt more 3 star for me. My partner and I had twin beds on arrival and the mattresses were very very firm. There was a hair dryer in the bathroom that wasn't particular strong. The shower was good and the balcony was nice. There was a TV in the room too if you wanted to catch the news.

We didn't eat in the hotel but by all accounts the food is quite good.

The safe cost €14 a week to rent, I would expect this to be free for a 4 star hotel, as I said it was more like a British 3 star.

There are two pools, one salt water and one chlorine. The pools were not heated, I think they are only heated in the high season which is Sept-April (I didn't know this at the time of booking), so the water was quite cold despite the high temperatures. The hotel provided beach towels for €5 deposit, this was really good and you could get fresh towels every day.

WiFi was only available in the hotel lobby, again for a 4 star I would expect this throughout the hotel.

The hotel is tucked away in a corner of San Agustin and is ideally placed for those wanting to access the beach (can be accessed via the pool). However, San Agustin is not the place to stay if you want to dine out without having to get a taxi. The shopping/restaurant centre in San Agustin is run down. We found ourselves going to Playa del Ingles most nights which cost €5-€6 euro one way in a taxi, you could walk which takes about 30-40 minutes which is quite pleasant and safe in the evenings as it is well lit. There were no restaurants in San Agustin that offered a light lunch either, it was mainly pizzas which was quiet frustrating.

The hotel was occupied by mainly older German couples so there wasn't much interaction with the other guests. It was very quiet by the pool and there was no sun lounger hogging from any of the guests.

Breakfast is continental (as you would expect when the guests are mainly German) buffet. The breakfasts were fine and plentiful for us but if you're a fussy eater you might struggle.

All in all, a clean, small, quiet hotel. If you like your peace and quiet and are happy to dine in the hotel this is the place for you. It's worth noting that as it is the low season I would say only 30% of restaurants are actually open in Gran Canaria.

I'll be adding reviews for the places we ate too.

We went to San Agustin Beach Club for a long weekend and we were wonderfully surprised by the level of facilities and service the hotel supplied. The design of the hotel, in the shape of the boat gave every room a brilliant view of the 2 pools and the sea. The beach was literally on the doorstep. The hotel was did not have any children at it and this made the stay nice and quiet and relaxing. The hotel only has 57 rooms and this gave you plenty of room around the pool. The food was excellent from the buffet style breakfast with a choice of yoghurts, continental style breakfasts, cooked breakfasts, breads, freshly made smoothies, juice, fruits and coffee and tea to the 5 course special night dining. This all made you feel special and staying in a higher quality hotel. The rooms very clean and had everything you needed, from a fridge to a safe. The water was also hot, if you needed it. The town of San Agustin itself is quite small and quiet, but the best part of the service at the hotel came from the evening Reception person called Alain. He was always so friendly and helpful and recommended places to go. Nothing was to much trouble for him. Around the area, the Timanfaya Pirate ship trip is great for children and adults, the town of Puerto de Mogan (the Venice of the Canaries) is lovely and the new Bahamas beach at Amadores is a must. We would definitely go back there again

We stayed in this hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel was small in comparison to a lot of commercial hotels and was designed to look like the interior of a cruise ship and looked affective. The hotel only has 57 rooms. It was clean, the staff welcoming and we could not fault anything at all. The food was excellent and even though we went to find other places to eat we ended up coming back to the hotel for dinner. Breakfast was plentiful and there was a large selection of cheeses, yoghurts, dairy and soya milk, meats, breads, fresh fruits and cereals. They provided freshly made smoothies for breakfast each morning. they would also cook you a omellete or fried egg if you fanced one!. My only complaint was the coffee. If you wanted a real freshly made coffee ground from beans then unfortunately you had to pay extra. The rooms were cleaned every day and fresh towels and linen supplied. We had a superb room overlooking the two swimming pools and a wonderful seaview with a balcony.
It was quiet and it was a adults only hotel so we could relax and read or just have a swim or use the jacuzzi or get a pampering if we felt we wanted one. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wanted a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. We were glad that we hired a car to take us out in the evening as there was not really much to do. Everything is easy to get to around the island as they now have the motorway. We spent some time in Mogan a beautiful fishing port - a definite place to visit.
