4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

We stayed at the Gloria Palace in early March for a 6 night break in the sun. The staff were very welcoming and efficient on arrival. The room had a lovely sea view and balcony and was spacious with everything we needed. The hotel was very clean in all areas. We stayed on half board and the breakfast was plentiful as was the dinner, although we did eat out in Masapalomas too as we found the buffet set up a little too canteen like for every single night. The tables are all very close together so there is absolutely no intimacy in the dining!!The selection was good and had a different theme each night although desserts were very repetitive. It would have been nice to have been able to relax more over dinner rather than it feeling more like a production line. The bar on the top floor of the hotel was a nice escape for a drink before or after dinner away from the masses and this is definatley a good feature of the hotel. The pool area was good, the pool is large so easy to properly swim and there are plenty of sun beds. If you did want to buy a snack at lunch time if not on all inclusive (where you could go and have buffet again but this would definatley have been overkill!), the selection was very poor so there is defiantely some room for improvement. For adults, the constant need for the staff to announce activities become a little tedious, most people by the pool looked like they would rather be relaxing than being bothered by staff trying to get them to join in games or watch them dance around the edge of the pool. So it would be much better for the hotel to change this and perhaps still offer activities if people want to join in but without the jingles and announcements so as not to disturb those who dont! The hotel ran a free bus to the local area and Maspalomas which was definately an added benefit. The spa at the hotel is good and we had a couple of good treatments that were priced reasonably. Overall we had a very good stay and had everything we expected to enjoy our short stay in the sunshine (it was mid 20's every day) away from the dire English weather!!

We were certainly not greeted with friendly staff, Mardigras was on so staff were totally occupied with their costumes. We did not get our room request but were happy enough with the room we did get. It was opposite the lift but did not cause any discomfort to our stay. Our room was over the reception area with a sea view, so wi Fi was not a problem when it was working, likewise, I was able to use it in the sun bed area, looking out to sea.
The sun beds are far too close, the best area, where you get a table, is on the upper area, near the green carpet.
When checking this hotel out from the website, I had wondered what the green area was. It is simply a raised platform covered in green carpet. The best views are the sun beds on the outer area, facing out to sea, the far side of the carpet area. The large swimming pool is salt water and is heated somewhat.
To clarify the rooftop situation, there is a charge of €5 for the sun beds here, you get a complimentary bottle of water. If you take a double, which is under a canopy, the charge is €10,
but you do get a free sun bed towel.
The nudist area is behind a wall and that is completely free.
We used the bar on the roof top to catch the evening rays, which was really nice. My cafe con leche was accompanied by 3 little biscuits and the beer was served with nuts and olives, this cost about €6.
The pool on the roof top seems to be very cold.

I did like the steps into the pool, not the usual ladder type.

Breakfast can be taken outside, if desired. The usual buffet, but the omelette was made and served from a roasting dish, no individual omelettes made to order. No smoothies were made.

The hotel is up a slight incline from the sea front. The beaches here are quite dark sand and the sea was rough for the whole week. Great sea front walking for miles to the right. The path only goes about one K to the left.
The complimentary bus was useful, but it turned out you could walk to Playes des Ingeles or about €3 in a taxi. Arrive at the bus stop in good time, or you maybe disappointed.

The entertainment was ok to good, the staff night a disaster. We did not eat at the roof top restaurant. The English Channel we got was Sky News International which was perfect.

Room Tip: Lower floors could suffer shade from the odd palm tree during winter months.

Do not go near this hotel.
There technical services are totally last century. Everyday we had to get room card reprogrammed in reception which required a Spanish inquisition.

The same issue with room safe , finished up have to tip the technical services engineers three times in the week.

We coped with that each day until my wife got an epileptic fit in the restaurant . I could see it happening and summons help from fellow unknown guest . It would estimate there were 300 guests in restaurant at time .
Within a few minutes I managed to get Her sitting down, the fit had passed,. There were 4 men and a lady standing over us . I asked had any of them medical experience , no reply.
I asked again , I was advised by, lady , I am customer relationship manager and that man is hotel manager, He advised that He requested ambulance and for me to get wife my documentation from room because hospital would need it.
I ran to room but ROOM CARD would not work, back to reception SPANISH INQUISITION, back to room 10 min later.
Our documentation in SAFE which would not open, had to return to wife without documentation.
When I got back my wife was on Her way to ambulance, one of the guests gave me Her bag.

Once our relationship manager got Her out of restaurant, she handed problem over to our trip rep

Her treatment in hospital was excellent, and she recovered and was back to the hotel in couple of hours.

We were lucky that I was aware of impending attack and that it was not something more sinister because all hotel wanted was to get Her out of restaurant.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review about Gloria Palace and for giving us your feedback, which we really appreciate and take into consideration.

We are glad to hear that your wife received the help that she needed in the hospital and we hope she is feeling better.

Our management tried to find the best solution they could. At that moment the best solution seemed to be to get a professional medical help.

We regret the technical problems with the safe and the room door. Please accept our sincere apologies.

We are really sorry that our hotel did not match your expectations.

Once more we would like to thank you for the time you have taken in sharing your comments.

Kind regards,

We booked the Gloria Palace just over a week before we travelled. We had been tracking it for a few weeks having researched many hotels in the area. We had lots of criteria. My husband is lactose intolerant and has other dietary needs, so buffet service is always better for him so he can choose what he knows will be ok for him. We wanted a hotel with a spa. We did not want a long transfer and we wanted a quiet location. Gloria Palace ticked all our boxes. Only the Junior Suites were available when we booked - our lucky day!! The room was fabulous with small sitting room and lovely balcony. We could not have chosen a better hotel. We walked into reception to be greeted with huge smiles and glass of fizz. All the staff were amazing, so friendly, kind and helpful. The food was wonderful - huge choice and absolutely delicious. Staff in the dining room were really friendly and very efficient. Service was first-class. There was always someone to greet you at the entrance to the restaurant. The spa was fantastic and we used it each day. Treatments were excellent, provided by very competent and friendly therapists and the spa pool was amazing.Outside the hotel, there was a lot of space and different sunbathing areas, a large pool, a smaller pool and a tiny one for toddlers. There were masses of sunbeds. It was all immaculate. It was a perfect holiday for us, a real stress-buster. We were very reluctant to leave and can't wait to return. Thank you Gloria Palace - you gave us a perfect holiday.

Room Tip: We loved our Junior Suite - lots of space

We spent a few days here for some winter sunshine, which was in abundance. The hotel was in a quiet location, with wonderful views. The best thing were the staff who were friendly and who worked very hard to make sure everything was perfect. We had a lovely large room, which was spotless. The mattresses were hard, but we were instantly provided with softer ones. The food was buffet style, not my favourite style, but was excellent in choice, and great quality, especially breakfast. We took the free bus to Maspalomas, and the sand dunes were quite spectacular. There were always plenty of sunbeds by the pool. The rooftop bar was beautiful for a sunset cocktail, but you had to pay extra to sunbathe and swim there, slightly annoying. We used the spa which was a great experience. I feel thoroughly spoiled and pampered.

We arrived on Feb 25 (wedding anniversary) Our room was spotless and a bottle of fizzy wine was in the room (Nice touch)
Straight up to the pool bar for first drink of the holiday. (We were all inclusive)
Food was great with a good variety of dishes at all meal times.
The staff were incredible. Always making the time to have a few words and/or a little joke.
The snack bar in the afternoon was useful as we had been out a couple of time during the day and missed the lunch meal.

I have two criticisms. One would be that within the outside eating area Doves/Pigeons? Are allowed to fly around onto the tables and sometime the food area (although this is covered) There are also a few cats wandering about.
The relaxation pool is not part of the all inclusive deal and is very expensive 23 euro for a two hour session.
I would like to see that as part of the deal as it was one of the things that sold the hotel to me.

Overall one of the best hotels I have stayed for a long time and would love to go back
