“Didn't plan to stay here...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013 via mobile

We were moved here from our original hotel for 3 nights - we wanted to hate it so we had something to complain about, but it was fantastic!
Hotel staff were lovely and was one of the cleanest hotels I've ever stayed in. The bar was lovely and the whole hotel was very modern. Rooms were small, but had everything you could need. Very small lift to take cases up in, but easily done in a few trips.
10 minute walk to the beach, and near other shops, bars and food places. The pool was very small, but we didn't use it anyway so wasn't a problem.
Overall I'd love to go back!!

Initially we did not book this hotel. When we arrived at the original hotel it was just like Mary and Joseph ie no room at the inn. We were then moved to Playas Del Rey. Our initial impression was that this hotel was something special. The whole area was spotlessly clean and the interior was the same. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble especially with the reception staff.Breakfast was very good but I did think that the evening meals were too fussy, this is my personal opinion and it is up to individuals to make their minds up. Its location is very good, only a few minutes to get to the main beach, shops and bars. We will definitely use this hotel again.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a sea view of some sort.Mostly sideways. The room we had also had a pool view. Th...

Everything was amazing - I wanted to practice my Spanish and they were so patient with me and told me the words when i wasn't sure. The staff were the best I have ever come across they went above and beyond, Manu made the best drinks with his own twist and was genuine with a brilliant sense of humour and wa more like a friend, Diane and Jemma were so so lovely made my husband and I feel so welcome and you felt felt like you had known them for a lifetime, and Tomeu the director was excellent so professional yet gave us a unique experience and made us feel so relaxed, he booked the most wonderful restaurant where we had the best traditional paella and octopus we have ever tasted.
They have created the most beautiful hotel, so clean and eco friendly with so much room and beautiful views, the top terrace was lovely and the pool, restaurants and bar area were stunning and we just didn't want to leave. Their food is also excellent the breakfast buffet had such delicious variety and the dinner menu gave us our first taste in food such as veal and calamari which we loved. I couldn't rate this hotel higher...I would definitely suggest making an effort to speak the local language I think they appreciate the effort and makes communication easier for everyone (even though they are multilingual which is impressive) so try and lean a few phrases, it's only polite to try :) Gracias por todo Playa del ray besos, Neri and James xxx

I booked this hotel after looking at various places in Mallorca which were

1) close to a beach
2) not too far from the airport
3) not Magaluf

Playas del Rey was excellent value for money - the boutique feel to it mainly applies to the restaurant and lounge though - the room and hallway didn't feel as though much thought had gone into their design. However, the rooms were clean, pleasant, and had a view of the beach. Again, the only drawback is the tiny shower cubicle in our bathroom with a shower curtain that didn't do a very good job of keeping the water in (but that's just me nit-picking really)

Staff were always helpful and tried their best to meet our requests, and there are some good restaurants in the area. It's location on the quieter side of Santa Ponsa makes it ideal for a nice island getaway without being (too) hassled by throngs of other holidaymakers. Finally, there was no parking - but a free communal carpark just down the road was the solution.

All that being said though, I would definitely stay here again if I do return to the western side of Mallorca!

My wife & I have stayed here numerous times, (B&B only) over the past 6 years. Over the past year or so the hotel has come under new management and has undergone some mainly cosmetic improvements as well as an 'image' change to a 'Boutique hotel':

Good Points:
Location is perfect - on the quieter side of the bay but only a few minutes walk away from some great bars, restaurants, shops and the beach.

Rooms are small but adequate, kept very clean and with Flat screen TV, A/C and free WiFi. We could sit out on our balcony at night with a drink and watch the world go by on the street below - great fun!

Breakfast is basic but tasty and well organised and the restaurant area is relaxing and nicely decorated.

Pool and private gardens area is beautifully laid out and stunning when lit up in the evening. A lovely place to relax.

Great roof terrace with plenty of sun-beds where you are able to enjoy the sun in a little more seclusion and with fantastic views over the bay.

Not So Good:

Apart from the manager, the rest of the staff that we encountered never spoke very good English. I found this unusual for Majorca considering tourism is the main industry on the Island.

The "Energia Restaurant" now only caters for guests who choose a 'boarding' option and by all accounts its a fairly basic menu. It would have been nice to have been advised this on arrival.

We tried to order a cocktail one afternoon but after 5 minutes of describing which one we wanted, the member of staff told us that she didn't know how to make cocktails (lol!) and we'd have to wait till later.

The new bar area has been vastly improved in appearance but unfortunately in an effort to be 'trendy' has lost all its atmosphere. During our two stays within the past year I only ever saw one person at the bar (with a coffee)!

Sorry for sounding a bit xenophobic, I'm just being honest, but the guests were mainly scowling Continental Europeans, for some of whom common courtesy seems to be a bit of an effort.

Dear Customer,
Thanks very much for having shared your opinion in Trypavisor.

Your comments are always welcome as they help us to improve.

All employees of hotel Playas del Rey do their best in communicating in english language. Let me remind you however that none of them is English and that makes it impossible to speak it as the native English do. Besides we have clients from many other nationalities accommodated in the hotel, wich makes it complicated to speak all these languages perfectly.

The menu we have for half board customers is available to any other customer at the price of 11.90 Euros. We are sorry for not having informed you on arrival.

Please apologize us for not being able to prepare the cocktail you ordered. I can assure you, we will improve our service in that aspect.

When we reformed the hotel our wish was to create a pleasant, contamporary and bright atmosphere. The majority of our customers do like the new decoration mainly because it is quite different from the rest hotels. Anyway we regret the decoration is not of your liking.

I am not quite sure what you mean when you mentioned our "continental European clients" but having worked for many years in the tourism business I can assure you that no matter the country they come from, our clients are different individuals and as you know some are more serious when others are more talkative or like to have fun. We do respect and treat all them with the same kindness and consideration.

We will be glad to see you again in Hotel Playas del Rey and ready to fulfill your expectations.

Regards,

Tomeu Enseñat

A thouroughly enjoyable stay. Simply excellent. If you are looking for a lovely, peaceful, relaxing get-away and a hotel with very friendly, professional and helpful staff then look no further than the Playas del Rey Hotel. After a 4 day stay here I am already planning a return - the rooms were cleaned immaculately daily and there is free WiFi - and the hospitality was not confined to just the hotel - Santa Ponsa itself is a lovely place with great amenities for your holiday requirements and entertainment.
