In the calmness of Costa de la Calma lies this Spa & Resort. Surrounded by coastline with mostly cliffs, but the view is great. A 30-40 min cab fare from the airport and you’re there.
The welcome puts you in luxury and holyday mode instantly, with excellent personal service, accompanied by a glass of bubbles. Great!
For given reasons, my wife and I had one of the honeymoon suites on the 1st floor. Actually just above the pool- and bar area, which turned out not to be a problem at all, since there are no kids or youngsters in this hotel, and we barely heard a sound. This was one of the most quiet hotels we have stayed on, which suited us very well.
The honeymoon suite was lovely. Spacious, impeccably clean, big terrace with a twin sun bed with thick madras, big flat screen in the living room, mini bar and last but not least, a Jacuzzi just in between the bathroom and the living room.
Nice, big pool area with plenty of sun beds. The only thing I found to complain about was the seagulls. They were in the pool, on the sun beds, in the pool bar and so on. But according to the barman there was not much to do about it.
The Food (we went half board, saw no reason to go all in)
The breakfast: Lovely. A great selection of yoghurts, fresh made smoothies and a lot of healthy stuff. And then off course eggs & bacon, a chef made omelets of you choice (super!) and quite often they would serve small glasses of Cava to give you a head start on the day. Nice touch!
Lunch = the pool bar…. and they stopped serving food at 15:00 (3 pm). Mostly pizza, pasta, toasts etc. Not great at all, and in contrast to the breakfast and dinner.
Dinner: Very nice, but lacked that little extra to get full score from me. Buffet style, lots of choices, but none that really stood out. Off course you’d find chips for the British ; )
One day they even had lobster, but being a Norwegian, I know that lobster could and should taste a lot more than this. Virtually tasteless. Too bad, but I give them credit for nice try.
Good selection of cheese and various deserts, small cakes +++. Actually the desert dep. was close to getting full score.
The service in the restaurant was first class, even though it could be quite crowded at times, with a bit of waiting. Friendly, smiling waiters saw to it that you survived and got a table with a new clean shining tablecloth.
The only place were the service could improve was some of the staff working the reception in the later hours. They could learn from the daytime staff about friendly, professional service.
I also have to mention the Spa with the Thai massage. They really gave you that feeling of luxury and well-being. At a price yes, but I have no hesitations recommending it. One exception though. Being so satisfied, we ordered a second massage, but when we arrived we were told that the lady giving me the massage was ill, and that I’d have to get an appointment an other day. Why did they not give us notice? They had our room nr and my phone nr… We stayed in the hotel that day waiting for our appointment, when we could have done something else.
To wrap it up - we were very happy with our vacation, and had a great time in this hotel. Certain elements could improve to lift the experience from very good to excellent but we're not in any way complaining, and would not hesitate to come back. Especially if they push it just a little bit further, then they would really get my attention. Because the potential is there.
