“nice calm week”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Hi, Me my wife and 23 month old went to this hotel at the end of september. The weather was great and the staff were just as warm. Plenty to do around the hotel, swimming pools and childrens pool at the top of the stairs were great. My little one loved it. Nice play areas and park for the kids. Soft play area down stairs that is great fun. The food was okay something different most days and the drinks were not bad. I would like to thank Anna in the dining room for making us feel welcome and always fusing around my son. Its not to bad of a walk to the beach as it gets rid of the A/I food and free ice cream. There was a lot on for the younger children that they seem to enjoy as my son was a little too young to join in. We would go back in the future as we like to try different areas. Another good thing is you get a fridge in your room and kettle which is good when the little one is asleep. You have a tv in the front room and one in the bedroom so you can watch different things to the wife.

Room Tip: Try and get a view of the kiddies pool at the top, and get a room where you come out over a small w...

We travelled to Salou on the 21st of September 2012 via Thomson Travel in the United Kingdom. We were originally located in the Golden Port Salou but were absolutely horrified to discover that there were numerous issues with the hotel room which I have highlighted in my review of the Golden Port Hotel. We were transferred to the Golden Avenida Suites Hotel by a rather helpful Thomson employee and absolutely adored it. The suites are modernly furnished, kept absolutely spotless by the maids and we had a beautiful pool view from our room. The hotel staff are pleasant, the facilities are kept clean, the All Inclusive menu at the bar is satisfying (but very basic), the food was lovely and the range of food at meal times was brilliant. We never ate the same food twice during the whole week. The only negative point I have to make about the hotel is that the Thomson reps are absolutely frustrating and their less than entertaining events are just a headache. I wouldn't even bother with them.

we stayed here with our 3 children for October half term. The rooms were very clean with plenty of space, the maids serviced the room every morning and changed the towels. The beds were firm as previously mentioned but still comfortable and we all slept well. There was no problem with noise but it was the end of season. Most of the restaurants and shops in Salou were still open, downside being the weather. We had 3 hot days out of the 7 and the rest were overcast with quite a lot of rain, but then that is always the risk at this time of year.
Transfers were quick only about 25 mins and very well organised.
The whole hotel is kept very clean and the pool areas are perfect for kiddies. the food was good and there were different choices every day, the hotel staff are fantastic, genuinely friendly and helpful, we needed a pharmacy and medical advice and Ingrid on reception was very helpful.
The evening entertainment was poor unfortunately 2 of the acts were really very bad, and the childrens entertainment put on by the reps very repetitive. There didnt seem to be a lot going on in the day time for the children and on rainy days the reps seem to dissapear but would imagine in peak season this is different.
We went on an excursion to Barcelona zoo and used the tour company up the road, they were great and it saved us 70 euros, so worth shopping around for the trips as Thomson are a little expensive.
There were 2 mirrors in the bathroom, one of which covered the whole wall, as I know previously this was a complaint but seems to be rectified. You can hire beach towels with just a deposit, they have a book swap scheme, and other items to lend, as well as a laundrette, indoor pool, internet, games room, childrens room, pool tables, 2 childrens play areas and 4 lovely pools. All in all we had a good week and the children loved every minute despite the weather. we used the indoor pool twice but would say that it didnt look very clean on the 2nd day so we steered clear after that.
I think to make the most of this hotel and its lovely pool and outside area we should have gone mid september when the weather was more stable, the beach is only 10 minute walk and has lots of play areas for the children, restaurants are all pretty reasonably priced and buses quite cheap. We took the bus to beautiful tarragona for only 11 euros, this town is well worth a visit.
You get what you pay for with this hotel, a pretty safe bet for a family holiday, nothing out of this world but all round enjoyable, we have some lovely memories and would reccommend to anyone with children but to steer clear during peak times would think june and september is a better time.

Room Tip: choose poolside rooms, and if you want extra sheet changes etc just ask the hotel staff are very hel...

This hotel was not what I had been expecting after reading previous reviews. It was clean but the apartment was very dull and basic. laminate floors, dull furnishings. just did not feel like Spain at all , could have been basic accommodation in Britain. We have been to many places in Spain and this was the most disappointing. Salou was like a copy of Benidorm, plus it was the end of season and lots of places were closed. On top of that we had lots of rain even thunder and lightning. The entertainment in the evening was childish in the extreme. The rep at our "leaving meeting". ". gave us some advice on what to do at the airport. " When you go to the airport most people pick the longest queue , don't------ go for the shortest, make sure you open your passport at the photo page, Listen for announcements and look at the board to check for your flight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" this from a girl who must have been a toddler when most of the guests had been going abroad for years!!

My husband and I stayed here with our toddler and baby for two weeks in October 2012. We had a 1 bedroom suite and stayed on a full board basis.

First impressions were all very good. Staff friendly and pleasant, public areas all spotless and when we got our keys we certainly weren't disappointed with the room as it was really lovely.

It had an open plan area with a sink, fridge, microwave, kettle and shelved area at one end. We also had a steriliser and bottle warmer which we had booked in advance. In the middle there was a double bed and two bedside cabinets. At the other end was a sofa, coffee table, desk & chair and flat screen tv. There were also patio doors giving access to the balcony.

The bathroom was also very nice with plenty of towels. There was a bedroom with twin beds and a large wardrobe area. We had booked a cot and travel cot so these were there and set up including bedding which was a surprise as I didn't think they'd provide this for the cots and had brought our own. It's worth pointing out that the cots are proper wooden ones and the travel cot is mothercare. Both comfortable and in very good condition.

There were more patio doors in the bedroom leading out to the balcony. The balcony had a table with 4 chairs and a drying area with 3 clothes lines so remember to take some pegs with you. It was really handy to have this hanging space especially when you're travelling with young kids. There was a washing machine in the basement of the hotel and tokens for it were 4 euros. There was also a dryer with tokens costing 3 euros but I didn't think it did a great job so preferred to use the balcony hanging space. Our room overlooked the toddler pool and I would recommend requesting this if you'd prefer a quieter room. The maids came everyday to empty the bins, replace the towels and make the beds. The floor could have been swept/mopped more often however and the bedding could have been replaced more often. 2 young kids make a lot of crumbs etc so the floor did get a bit messy. I would have been happy to sweep up myself so if that isn't going to be a daily service from the maids then perhaps a small brush and shovel could be provided in the rooms. I would like to point out that maids clearly did their duties very well and I think it's just that sweeping the rooms etc isn't in their list of daily jobs to do.

One other suggestion is to make fans for hire outwith the air conditioning season (it's provided May to September) as it was off when we arrived but the weather was hotter than expected and it did get a bit too warm in the room especially for the kids.

We had breakfast, lunch and dinner included in our package. At breakfast time you could use the drinks machines without paying extra and you had to buy your drinks at lunch and dinner (unless you were all inclusive of course). To give you an idea, diet cola was 2 euros and orange juice was 1.60 euros. The food quality was good and presentation was excellent. It was all kept spotless too. There are plenty of highchairs and booster seats available. There was a lot of choice at each meal and they even had a kids buffet area. Ana, the restaurant manager, was such a friendly and kind lady. Our kids loved her. She was so nice to every guest and made a fuss of all the children. The only suggestion I really have is that plastic plates and cups would have been handy as a lot of the kids staying there are young and I'm sure they'd be well used.

We didn't use the kids club as our children were too young but we did enjoy the kids entertainment that was on, the reps did a great job. The softplay area was really good. The pools were really too cold so we didn't go often. There was an indoor one too so there is that option. There are two small playground areas, crazy golf (2 euros per player), 5 aside pitch, pool tables, games room, 4 pay to use computer terminals and free wifi in some areas so there really was a lot in the hotel. There is a creche that we didn't use but we did meet the staff at a toddler time session and they were lovely. Toddler time is on 3 times a week and is for parents to attend with their children. The one we went to had musical instruments and colouring in.

Both the hotel staff and Thomson reps did an impressive job. All were genuinely happy to help and were fantastic with children. Special mention to Ana, Ingrid, Sarah, Margarita and Jazzy Jimmy. We would certainly use Thomson family resorts again.

There are plenty of restaurants within easy walking distance, supermarkets nearby and it's just a short walk to the main shopping area and the beach is just a little further so the hotel location is really handy.

We went to Portaventura and all enjoyed it but it's really better for 5 year olds and up. Our toddler is very tall for his age but was still under the height limit for most kids rides even in the sesame street themed kids area. So I do think there could have been a few more toddler rides.

We'd definitely recommend Golden Avenida and would love to go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the toddler pool as it's quieter than roadside and away from the nois...

I would like to start off by saying my wife and myself had a self catering apartment . This was lovely, recently refurbished, brand new kitchen area, built in microwave, full size fridge, ceramic hob with 2 rings,Kettle & toaster.Dining table and 4 chairs, double bed settee 5ft wide which can be left made up and then folded away.Twin bedroom with patio doors and wall mounted Tv (all Brit channels except BBC1 even had Sky sports with the footy) ,patio doors in living area open on to a large furnished balcony, the outside rooms are noisy(traffic) with the doors open but quiet when closed, pool view rooms are quieter.Plenty going on for children with kids clubs and a creche.Did not use the restaurant so cannot comment on food, but bar was ok for snacks and coffee etc.The pool area was nice beds available every day but this was late September and the weather was rubbish two sunny days 3 overcast and 2 rainy. The little resort train was a good way to find your bearings arount town. For 2 Euros you can catch the local bus into Taragonna a Mini Barcelona with lots of Roman ruins and only 25 mins away.Lovely promenade area with lots of gardens and fountains but to get to it you have to run the gauntlet of cheap souvenir shops and trashy brit pubs, restaurantsand bars.We had reviewed the top 2 trip advisor restaurants (The Guinness Tavern and Olivers) both were great.Good food, proper portions and sensible prices, both were marked on a map by the hotel receptionists, who were a font of local knowledge. All in all, we had a nice holiday pity about the weather.

Room Tip: Pool View rooms do not experience the traffic noise.

I travelled with a friend at the end of September, we booked this hotel as it was cheap and in a good location.

We were pleased with the size of the room and as we were self catering we had a small kitchen with all the amenities. Unfortunately we were facing the road which is not a main road but is very noisy, obviously we were generally going to sleep early hours of the morning but it was still very loud mainly with car noise. We were woken up at 6am one morning by a couple punching and shouting at each other for over an hour in the street, I did call reception and ask that they call the police but they never turned up!

The hotel is in a great location for nightlife and the beach (only about a ten minute walk), I would recommend going to Olivers restaurant as they did the best food and it was very good value for money. Temple Bar and Christy's Irish Bar are the best places to go but it was very quiet given the time of year.

The hotel is great for families and the entertainment is completely aimed at being a family resort. I would not stay at this hotel again travelling with friends but would definitely recommend for families.

We did a day trip through Thompson to Barcelona which was the day and night tour which I would highly recommend, this cost 65.00 euros and you got to visit Camp Nou, the unfinished cathedral, Las Ramblas and the magic fountains. If you walk up to where the Bull Ring is you can go up the lift to a 360 degree panoramic view which was the best thing we did costing just 1 Euro.

Overall we had a good holiday and the weather was great!

Room Tip: Request a pool facing room
