“Decent Hotel, Pleasant Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

I think that the best way to get to the hotel from Barcelona airport is by PLANA bus. You can board the bus at Terminal 1, and in Salou it stops in front of the hotel - nice and easy! Round trips costs EUR 27, and there is 1 bus per hour on average. As to the hotel, we could never have been dissatisfied, since the receptionist Monica gave us an apartment with front sea view. Thank you so much, you were an absolute angel, the view was excellent and the impression about the hotel therefore the very best!
The apartment itself was also very nice, thoughtfully furnished and boasted some very useful details, including sanitary bags and kitchen utensils (no coffee or tea maker, though). As we visited in October, at the end of the season, we had no problems with sunbeds or long lines at the restaurant, even though the manager and waiters tend to show you to the table, which is not always convenient, as you are robbed of choice... and there are never tables for three at the window, you are doomed to sit in the middle of the restaurant. I imagine that the system is useful during the high season when the place is probably overcrowded, and less so later, but there is little you can change. My husband once tried to ask for another table and was not exactly refused, but the manager was not quite forthcoming, to put it mildly. Yet it was the only incident of the kind, as in general the staff were extremely helpful and smiley, so it probably doesn't count.:)
Anyway, the food was superb, standard for breakfast, but a real feast for both the lunch and dinner. In 9 days we had seafood nights twice and were over the moon!
The pool was thoroughly enjoyable, with massage nozzles and palm-trees around, and there is a pleasant opportunity to visit the hotel's own spa center until 2 p.m. free of charge, if the weather is less favorable.
Kids entertainment was also satisfying thanks to Rose who had nice ways with the kids, and there were some decent shows in the evenings, including two great flamenco nights.
All in all it was a great holiday and no doubt whatsoever about going back. Thanks a million to the staff!

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are the best by far!

Just returned from a week's stay at the Blaumar.
As mentioned by previous reviewers, the hotel is minutes from the beach-front and the promenade so couldn't be in a better position.
The reception staff all spoke English and were very helpful. Special mention for Eduardo who was manning the desk when we arrived last on the Sunday night. We were booked for half-board, but as we'd missed that nights evening meal, he put us down for full board for the Monday.
Room was on the 5th floor, and as requested we had a view of the sea. It was spacious, cleaned daily, and was just what we needed. TV only had 3 English-speaking channels, all news, which was a little disappointing, but we didn't go there to watch TV, and it meant we could keep up with goings-on at home. The wi-fi in the room is also useful, and was only €7 for 7 days.
Meals were to be expected for a hotel that 'catered' for the many nationalities that stayed there. A good choice for the breakfast buffets, but the main meals did tend to lean towards fish-based dishes, though there were always alternatives that suited us so we never went hungry.
The pool area was well-kept and, had the weather been a little kinder to us, would probably have been busier.
Nice touches included the locked luggage room and shower room in reception as we were not being collected until 6pm but had to check out of the room by 10am. Just meant we didn't have to drag our cases around all day.
Overall, very impressed with our first stay, and plan to return in the future.

Booked 4 nights at the Blaumar and returned 22nd October 2012. Hotel is in a good location and we had a refurbished sea view room which was excellent. We travelled with our 18 month old son and on arrive found that the room did not have a cot as requested. I spoke to reception who informed me that I had to rent a cot for €7 per night - I dont think I have ever had to pay to rent a cot in the past so was a bit miffed. It is also €15 per day to park in the hotel car park so I parked in the street instead. We paid for half board but on entering the restaurant they said that they do not have high chairs, only booster seats with no straps. This makes it extremely difficult to feed a toddler so we ate out every night. Breakfast was ok with our son sat on my knee. On the plus side, Cambrils is a nice Spanish coastal town with excellent restaurants and the hotel has great views of the beach and room was spotlessly clean.

Room Tip: The sea view rooms have been refurbished

Just returned from 4 nights at this good quality hotel. The position is what you pay for set just back from the main front of salous promenade ,.warm welcome and a great size room. food was varied ,although not always to my taste i could always find something nice to fill me up !!
I've stayed in 5 or 6 different hotels in the area and this is the best ive stayed in.
Pool area is beautiful, rooms cleaned daily to a high standard, the bar staff are great always having a laugh with the family.
I would highly recommend this hotel

Just back from a 10 day stay and had a great time. Staff in hotel all very friendly and helpful. Had a superior room which had pool view but could also see the promenade from huge balcony. Plenty of sunbeds by pool and none of that ridiculous keeping a sunbed with a towel! There were always loads of beds free. Rooms were spotless and maid never visited our room too early which was great. Breakfast was fine plenty of choice of bread, fruit and lots of delicious pastries etc. Wasn't impressed with the hot food as the sausages were like hotdogs but were so pale they looked uncooked, good scrambled egg. Plenty fruit juice and tea and coffee we never had to queue but imagine it might be a lot different in the height of the season. Would recommend Corra Linn which is just round the corner and food for dinner is homemade and very tasty. Could see some of the fountains from room and was short walk to the harbour and main fountain shows from the hotel. Hotel is in nice area of Salou and didn't feel too busy of noisy at night. Short walk to station which was handy for train to Barcelona. If we go back to Salou we would definitely stay at Blaumar again.

DO NOT GET A TAXI FROM BARCELONA TO THIS HOTEL! we made this mistake it was 170 euros!
We got the train on the way home but do not listen to the hotels recepitions advises as they gave us the wrong train time table to ended up nearly missing the flight!!
The train was 15 euros for 2 of us from Salou to Barcelona Sants - then we got a taxi from here to the airport which wa 25 euros ( you can get another train but was running late due to th wrong information from the man on reception on this hotel) !! so much cheaper than a taxi.

The hotel was great other than the above, nice and clean, all rooms have air con. Pool is fab with jaquzzi like places in it. There is spa in the hotel which was lovely for when the weather was cloudy.

We had bed and breakfast but wouldnt have it again as it wasnt very nice - you had to queue to get in the resturant and it was very noisy, the food was cold.
We did eat lunch there once around the pool it was a BBQ all you can eat for 15 euros each. that was lovely! lots of meat and fish as much as you like.

location - great very close to the beach a short 2 mins walk. close to all bars and resturants - about a 10mins walk fromt he main bars which is great as the hotel is quiet. come out of the hotel walk to the main road and turn left - here are where all the best places are.

OH and if you have a nigh flight dont pay the 30 euros to keep your room on as there are shower rooms with electric sockets that are great!! so glad we didnt pay the 30 euros.

drinks are expensive around the pool 1.40 euros for a bottle of water! so take your own

i think thats about it!!

Room Tip: pool view is better

We stayed for a weeks holiday (June 2012) half board with my family. We had 2 rooms (beside each other) both twin superior (1 for my mum & dad) & (1 for my wife and 2 kids) both with a sea view with balcony. As being the only english speaking tourists staying in the hotel, reception staff, bar/restuarant staff & cleaners all could speak good english. The hotel was spotless. Our room was cleaned everyday (floors, bathroom, kitchen, beds) with new linen & towels. Restaurant food was excellent and even catered for our small kids (1&4). Lunch varied from cold salads, fresh seafood, hot meat, pasta, fresh homemade desserts & fresh fruit. Swimming pool was clean and well maintained with a full time lifeguard. Evening entertainment looked good (but never went) Beach/Supermarket only a 2-5 min walk. Within 10 mins of walking are the main bars/clubs, restaurants, bus/train station, harbour. All in all a super hotel with a great location and one that I would recommend and I would stay here again.
