“pools great, food and location could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2010

Just got back from a week here at benalmedena holiday village. Staff were all very friendly and the first choice reps are great. Swimming pools and the beach club are excellent they have pools for everyone even small children and toddlers our 7 year old and 8month old thoroughly enjoyed them. The rooms are very good, spacious and well equipped. We stayed all inclusive, to those thinking of choosing the sc option, supermarket prices within the hotel are just so expensive, it would be cheaper to spend 10euros on the taxi fare to benalmadena and bacK than go to the supermarket there. Food was ok, breakfast was pretty good with plenty of choice from fruit and cereals to a large selection of everything u could imagine cooked, but lunch and dinner were very hit and miss, i would have preferred a better selection of veg and salad, most days there were only one type of veg and that was 'in butter'. The dining room could be very chaotic and extremely noisy, food was set out all over the place. For chip, nugget and burger eaters it was a dream come true, unfortunately sometimes it was the only option for many of the children as steamed or boiled potatoes and veg were simply not available. The Italian and Mexican restaurant were lovely, very good food and all inclusive guests could visit both of them once per week.We did not use the kids club, so i cannot comment. Entertainment was ok. Location of the hotel was not to my liking, it was not really in walking distance of anywhere when you have 2 small children, you had to use the bus or taxi to get out of the resort which for me was a must at times especially during the evening.

This hotel is excellent there is so much for Kids to do in the day time and the evening. I am 23 and went with my family with children this is a family resort not for people who want to go clubbing etc. Normally we go spain and the enterinment is terrible im not lying it was great a different show everynight for the kids and adults but there always the Irish bar thats open to 2 am if you want to carry on drinking. We booked this hotel self catering but i was told its better to go all inclusive and im so glad we did, its so expensive to buy food in supermarket in hotel so before you go call you travel agent and see if you can upgrade to all inclusive, its so worth it and it was only a extra £200.00 to upgrade if i didnt upgrade i would have been so poor within the first couple of days. If anyone moans about this hotel is a joke, the rooms and huge and clean and the food is good like most hoildays you start to get bored of the food after a week. There kids clubs all day, games round the pool, loads of swimming pools and i have been to many places in spain and never to a hotel like this. do not listen to the bad reviews i just cant believe anyone could moan about this hotel. The only one thing is to go to the nearest town its about 5 miles but you can get bus outside hotel but you dont really need to leave the hotel unless you just want go beach or for a meal. You must go here if you have children its fab but if you dont its not for you

My husband, 3 year old and myself have just returned from a one week break at this hotel. We had a nice week. It was late when we arrived however check in was quick (I'd recommend a taxi transfer to avoid the check in queue) and the reception area is quite impressive. I wasn't so impressed with where the rooms are. It reminded me of a prison (lots of rooms overlooking an atrium) however the rooms themselves are good and spacious - the biggest hotel bathroom I've ever had - two showers! We hadn't paid for a view so were next to the railway line which was fine. We all thought the food was fine, yes AI gets a bit boring after a week - but there is still plenty of choice every day. I thought lunch was excellent in the beach club. A little tip for the beach club - plan your day, this will save you going backwards and forwards all day between pools. The toadstool etc is quite a way away from the bar and restaurant, so be warned. I must say I was a little dissappointed in the water slides etc for my 3 year old. We stayed at the Holiday Village Aliathon last year and there was much more for our three year old in the pool there, however the HV CDS is much bigger and is more suited for older children (120cm and above). The pool at the hotel was good. It was my first time in mainland Spain and I wasn't over keen. All in all we had a great holiday, athough I wouldn't go back there - We'll be trying somewhere else next year. Final hint - you are not close to any other shops or restaurants/pubs so be warned. You will have to take a bus ride to visit anywhere else.

We have just returned from a weeks stay all inclusive and had a great time. We had a reasonably large room which was clean and had a sea and pool view from the large balcony. This is a hotel for families and young children. If you are looking for something other than an excellent holiday geared for children, stay somewhere else.

My advice, go all inclusive as other self catering guests said they found it expensive.

Some other reviewers have criticised some aspects of the hotel , such as the food and entertainment but we found both more than acceptable. This is a holiday hotel, not a fine restaurant or a Las Vegas show lounge. We have taken a similar type of family holiday at this time for several years now and this was without doubt the best.

We were there on the day that the pool was closed because a child had what one reviewer called a “toilet accident”. We were told by the life guards, there are four of them on duty at any one time, that the pool would be closed for the rest of the day to allow all the water to be circulated through the filtration system to remove any nasty bugs or bacteria. A very sensible thing to do. There are two other pools available over the bridge in the beach club area.

We hired a car and got out and about, something I would also recommend.

All in all I would recommend this hotel complex, because that is what it is, to anyone with a young family looking for a Spanish pool holiday in the sun.

despite reading reviews here before we went, and seeing the complaints about the food, we thought, that some people just exagerrate. how wrong we were. the wide variety of food was all of the same poor quality ingredients, which apparently made it impossible for the chefs to produce anything edible. having said that, how hard is is to season an omlette or paella? especially if your in spain. apparently this was beyond their skill levels as well. You can clearly see that they're making a mint, from what little they appear to spend.

despite the attrocious food, we had a good holiday and our 4year old and ourselves loved the pool and the facilities. and there was plenty of choice of activities, should we have chosen to do any.

the location was close enough to benalmadena and Fuengirola for us to leave the hotel and find some palatable food and wine that was was cooked properly and used good ingredients. the locals and staff were friendly and were happy to recommend decent spanish restaurants, as they admitted that they wouldn't eat there. and there are some great restaurants in Fuengirola itself down the back alleys. don't ask the first choice staff as they seem to recommend their friends bars and restaurants, and they're terrible quality food as well.

We were unsure as to how the hotel qualified for a 4 star rating, as everything seemed to be around the 2 start quality, and 3 star for service and cleanliness. I'm going to look further into this as to who provided the rating and waht criteria/bribe the hotel had to provide.

Don't expect a dvd in your room, as with everything else, you need to pay a deposit to get it. and for any of you in the building industry, don't look to hard at the qaulity of the building works and tiling as I was amazed that any of it got past a snagging list, as it clealry looked rushed to get the hotel open and ready to rob guests of their money and appetites.

the pools are great and the kids will love it. although I personally was a little shocked at how much like a holiday camp it was, with loud brash young reps, and the below average quality of the evening entertainment, I did find it amuzing watching a poor karaoke singer chap attempt to sound credible as the professional act going through his sound check. I blame the parents of children that tell them that they're great at a young age and encourage this kind of britains got talent dross.

The hotel could go a long way to making what is and isn't included in the all inclusive package, and it's clear why it's inclusive, as they havn't spent any money on quality options. expect a lot of unsaturated greasy fatty food with little nutrition, or over cooked un seasoned food. seriously, how can fruit and veg tast bad in spain, they have the climate to produce grat produce.

We will never be going again, and do our utmost to save anyone from wastign their money going there in future, it's not fair on families with children to be asked to pay for a holiday that is far from cheap or value for money.

Did I mention that we were all il during the holiday as well? all one after the other, hte little one from both ends was first half way through the holiday, then my partner and I were violently sick., and it wasn't from the free drinks provided as they were awfull.

The hotel Claims to have room service, but the reality of actually obtainiung this is long and convoluted and results in you having to go and get your food yourself. essentially self catering. a joke. and we're very glad to be back home.

My husband and two children (girls aged 2 and 6) went to the holiday village at the same time last year.... We loved it so much that we booked a week after arriving back at home to go again at the same time. We flew out on Sunday june 13th at 6.55 am. We arrived at the hotel and found that our room was ready, which was an excellent result. On getting into the room, which was smaller than our room last year we found it to be a little "tired" with paint peeling off the walls and the bathroom was not exactly clean.... Now please do not think that we are winge winge winge as I am being brutely honest ! We went to the pool and it was as excellent as ever as was the restaurant, service and facilities but when night time came and the girls had been on the trampolines (THIS IS AN EXTRA CHARGE OF 2 EUROS EACH AND YOU GET 5 MINS ONLY!!!! BEWARE OF THE VERY EXTRA EXPENSE!!) we settled down to the childrens entertainment...... Last year it was excellent with Carter, Just Jason and the gang but this year it was terrible.... It was not engaging for the girls, who were bored and wanted to go back on the trampolines!!!! the only saving grace was the bingo, which they loved even though they were underage to play..... Over the bridge the excellent area that housed the shooting fountains for young children did not work, which was a big upset for the girls, who loved it last year!!! In the day the girls had fun and loved the water until day 5 when a child had a toilet incident in the pool and the lifeguard closed it for the day at 3.30pm..... not one single rep came on the intercom at the pool to explain the situation and left about 300 people sat looking at the empty pool trying to explain to their children they could not go back in !!!
The food was good, the service by the spanish employees was excellent BUT do not expect great childrens entertainment!!! Natasha (Tash) on her own was excellent but with her side kick Liam, it was close to the bone in sexual areas, which was not what you want for your young children to ask you about !!!
All in all we had a reasonable time but we will not return for a third visit so anyone thinking that they had a good time once.... leave it at that and move on! You first time visitors..... you will love the facilities and have a good time but do not expect a cheap time with your kids as the trampolines, bike and car rides will cost you a fortune to keep your kids entertained !!!!

The hotel is wonderful, a great place for a family holiday. We stayed all inclusive which i would definately recommend, the food is good and there is a wide variety, the 2 restaurants are also very nice. The staff are great, all really helpful and would do anything for you to make your holiday that bit more special. The beach club side of the hotel is brilliant, lots of pools, jacuzzis, slides and also a quiet area which is situated near the restaurant - we spent most of our days here as there is so much to do you really don't need to go anywhere else. We did however have 2 days at the beach which is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel, the hotel made up a lovely picnic for us to take which saved us having to find somewhere for lunch. Benalmadena is a lovely little town, one afternoon we got the bus from outside the hotel and it took about 10 mins to get into the centre. The promenade is lovely and we had a realy nice walk along to the harbour which is definately worth a visit, food and drinks are expensive but its worth a visit. I would defiantely go back to the this hotel and would recommend it i honestly couldn't complain about anything.
