Didn't really know what to make from the reviews, but was pleasantly surprised when i got to the hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful, the hotel rooms/ apartments were spacious well equipped apart from the lack of oven and very clean. the staff are very helpful and welcoming and i really didn't want to come home. one thing i will say is that we went self catering and decided to upgrade for four days when we got there as we didn't want to be restricted to stay in the hotel all day, however i wish we would have gone all inclusive for the whole time as it's really expensive, also if you have a chance to go on the excursions the cable cars are a must they take you up to the mountains and whilst up there theirs a falcon show which is very impressive. But all in all amazing hotel had a brilliant time and will be going back again defiantly :D

We have just returned from 5 Nights at The Holiday Village and found the whole experience good.

Little issues such as All Inclusive not being quiet All Inclusive with restrictions as to what, where and when you can eat did not help endear us to the Holiday Village but if you are looking for a family based holiday with the primary objective of entertaining the kids and freeing yourselves in the process, you will be happy to stay here.

First Choice have more or less taken over the Holiday Village ( see the actual hotel site at www.holidayworld.es ) and this modern building provides comfortable one bedroomed apartments equipped with good size bathrooms, kitchen facilities inlcuding microwave, kettle and fridge.

The TV advert showing The Holiday Village concentrates very much on the Beach Club which is located within a 400 metre walk over a bridge. There are no steps to the walkaway meaning good access for any less abled persons to gain access. The Beach Clud does get very busy and it is a very good faciility with a large choice of pool areas as well as a ride down a slide on large rubber rings. The kids will love it. This area is shared by three other hotels in the complex and without it, this complex would close as the location is just next to the middle of nowhere.

There is a twice hourly bus service to either Benalmadena or Fuengirola and at a cost of 1 euro 20 per person in each direction, a taxi wont cost much more for a family of four who do venture out from the Holiday Village. Although the location did not affect me, if you want more than just a base from your holiday hotel, choose another hotel.

Overall, there is nothing wrong with The Holiday Village and nothing really to go wrong other than in high season, queues for food and drink could drive you to distraction. But that's usually the case with All Inclusive properties any way!

this was the first time we had taken our 2yr abroad. never used AI purpose built complex before but we had to think what was best for our boy. we didnt need to move out of the hotel, fantastic pools, beach club, entertainment, restaurants. everyone really friendly and an excellent show in the evenings by professional entertainers. we did take the local bus into Benalmedina marina, and the Fuengarola zoo (buses every 15/30 mins) i would never dream of going AI and staying in one place before, but i must say it was the best choice with a toddler, will definately use a holiday village again, if not costa del sol, we will try another resort. really enjoyed ourselves and sad to come home.

Ok, so we went when the volcano erupted ( not the hotel's fault!), so can't moan about that. But there is plenty of things wrong with this hotel apart from that!
When we got on the coach at Malaga airport to go to the hotel, we had a very rude rep who handed us rules and regs of the hotel and demanded we sign forms before we arrived. As most people did not have a pen we all had to do this at the hotel, whilst queueing for an hour. The room was ok, but smelt musty and looked very run down. The bathroom smelt very bad, and there were loads of silverfish running all over the floor.
The lifts are terrible. Constantly bypassing you and on to another floor, good job we didnt take a buggy as we had to use the stairs the majority of the time.
The swimming pools outside were freezing. my 3 year old went blue after 5 mins. Very windy positioning too, no shelter at all. Infact if you go over the road to the beach club (if it was open) it was much warmer.
The food was average i suppose. They liked to dowse everything in oil and grease though, so i tried to stick to the salads.
There was only one small climbing frame on the site for the kids to use, so plenty of accidents, with kids banging in to each other.
The shop is appalling! 4 euros 50 for a bag of crisps!
The kids clubs are good though and the entertainment was good too.
This is supposed to be First Choices flagship holiday village, but it's no better than an oversized Pontins park.
Will not be returning to this park again, waste of money!

Having just returned from the Holiday Village Hotel Costa Del Sol, I wanted to share what an experience the holiday was.
As we had a late flight we arrived around 10.30pm, we were amazed at the size of the complex and the security of it. We checked in with a lovely lady on reception, who informed us that we had missed the meal, so the staff had placed a cold meal for each of us and drinks in the kitchen of our room. On entrance to the hotel, everything was spotless, and organised and we were suprised to note in the main part of the hotel an ornamental full sized boat! even at this hour there were still maids tidying general areas of the hotel.
Upon entering the room the oversized beds, huge bathroom, spacious living area and kitchen were all lovely and clean, and the large balcony overlooked the complex, and the Med, was very impressive. We were also surprised to see that even at this time, the kids club entertainers were still working, 2 bars were open, (the entertainment Malaka bar, and the relaxing Piano bar, and the Irish bar was due to open). There is a Cyber Cafe charged at 1 euro - 10 mins, a shop (although expensive so much was already provided we hardly needed it), an amusements area, billiards room, main restaurant, plus an italian, a mexican, and a snack bar, without even counting all the things at the Beach club!. We were never once woken by any noise from any of the bars.
All the staff were so wonderful and could not do enough for you, the enteratinment (Natasha and the gang) are the best entertainment I have ever experienced in and hotel anywhere! There was lots of audience participation and all the chidren were involved at least once. The shows the staff put on are Fantastic and are not to be missed, this team are going to go far and are extremely talented! The Widgets are briliiant and Bob the Builder even visits!! Everything flows perfectly and the team never look on their toes, they truly look so happy to be doing what they are doing!
Sussanah and Sandra on the bar are always pleasant and can never do enough for you, Ramon is a star and Alex is great!
The foods in the restaurant was varied, one day lamb the next pork, chicken, steak and so on (cooked fresh in front of you,) There was also fresh fish, a salad bar, various vegetables etc. One day they had a huge chocolate fountain with fruit and marshmallows, another belgian waffles and pancakes! Breakfasts had cereals/ continental/ and boiled/scrambled/fried eggs, british sausages, black pud and all the trimmings, if you dont fancy any of that you can see the chef who will rustle up an omelette with your choice of ingredients. Even the chefs with little english will laugh and joke with you, one telling a lady she couldn't have a lamb chop until she says baaa chop!!!(as she was joking with him!)
Around all the pools there are lifeguards who are happy to help and are not always blowing whistles but will politely explain any rules. As said in another review none of the pools do allow inflatables of any kind, except the large rings in the beach club, which i think you have to pay a deposit for.
The kids club has various activities going on throughout the day, for big kids too! lol my hubby thoroughly enjoyed raft building! The creche is well equipped and has so much going on, and the kids club are always painting something, whether pictures/ faces or on one evening the chocolate party results in chocolate paint!
The indoor pool is really pretty and is warm, children aren't allowed in after 2pm, and you have to wear swimming caps 3Euros each from the shop, the caps rule is apparently Spanish Law though, within this there are turkish baths and sauna (3 euros extra on AI) and jacuzzi (Free) there is also a gym, and massage rooms available.
The beach club is gorgeous and there is lots to do, there is a restaurant there, a bar / cafe and 2 bars there also. The only negative is that you do have to go over the bridge, so the people with difficulty walking should enquire about using the gates, and for us who were lazy, we just walked off some of the food!
We were there during the "volcano eruption" although there were a lot of extra people there (early on) and then a ghost town (later) the staff handled everything people needed and couldn't do enough, and went far out of their way to assist, well, all apart from the team leader in First Choice reception, but just avoid her and everyone else is happy to help!!
I would advise going all inclusive as the foods and drinks are so worth it!
also Benalmadena Marina is beautiful and well worth a visit, the hotel is quite far from most things but there is so much to do, this didn't affect us, but there is a bus for 1.20 euros to either town, and there is a train station 15 mins walk which is 3euros to the airport
Enjoy your holiday, i wish i was still there!!!

We went for 5 days, have been before in Sept 08, and it was very good for kids again. I could see a slight decline, things just a little jaded etc, but still very good. It is quite Butlinsy, but we thoroughly enjoyed watching the kids enjoy it. The pluses are as follows:
1 Great kids club - but with only 32 places each timing, not alot for the size of hotel.
2 Fantastic rooms, big clean, bathrooms have separate shower, bath with shower, toilet, bidet and double sink. Kitchen more than adequate
3 Food really good
Now the not so good things:
1 Queuing and worry if your kids doesnt get a place in the club
2 Location, quite a way on the bus to either local town
3 Simply the size of the place - you must allow travel time to get anywhere
4 The kids entertainment at night wasnt as good as last time - some stupid glove puppets, come on staff - just get up there and sing and dance with the kids. They were bored
Now the really BAD things
1 Do not go self catering - the prices in the restaurants are ridiculous and there is nothing around for miles. The shops is very expensive for food. Dont upgrade when you get there, just pay before hand, much much cheaper.
2 No hand wash in the restaurant. If you look at the reviews from the end of 2009, there were lots of tummy bugs. Go to most other hotels in Spain and the hand wash stations are there as you go in the restaurant - not here. SIMPLY NOT GOOD. A bug wil sweep through in days and First Choice are doing nothing to stop it.
So First Choice, if you do look at these reviews, buck up your ideas, people do look at Tripadvisor and if their holidays are spoilt you will loose your repeat customers.

I will start with the only negative point ,this hotel is a little remote. We walked about two miles either way along the sea front and their isn't a lot to see or do.
Now for the good bits.
On arrival we were impressed with the decor of the foyer with fountain and palm trees and the staff were fast friendly and efficient, some people moan about the 100 euro deposit for breakages but if you read the info you should be aware of it.
The rooms are large and clean and have a huge patio with table and chairs .The kettle in the kitchen didn't work and we informed reception and it was fixed in less than five minutes' you don't get service like that in England.
The restaurant is really good with a wide choice to suit all tastes.
The best part of this hotel is the pool area ,big ,huge ,massive its got space like no other hotel i have ever been to .
So, don't be put off, go, you will enjoy it .
Oh and if your room is on the approach road side say hello to the donkey ha ha
