“Lovely Hotel & Food”

Las Arenas Hotel

We stayed here for Easter. This is our 4th time back and I would always recommend this hotel. This time we booked the hotel via Winter Sunshine Holidays on the web flying with Flybe from Exeter. The place was refurbished in 2004 and is really well decorated and is spotlessly clean throughout. The food is good with plenty of variety at breakfast each day. The bar area is lovely with nice chairs inside and out on the terrace. There is a great ice cream bar here too. You won't be disappointed.

We haven't stayed in to watch the entertainment but normally there is a singing act or something on in the evening. The price of draught Cruzcampo is 3.20euro in the hotel.

If you hire a car there is a small car park underneath the hotel which is free. There are about 20 spaces.

Hotel is nicely situated a bit away from the more lively part of Benalmadena probably about 20 mins from the harbour area.

Only a couple of small things to mention/watch out for!

Avoid the first level of the hotel facing the swimming pool if poss. Had a room at this level on a previous visit which was quite dark and a bit overlooked by the pool which is on the level above.

The hotel isn't targeting families and is more for the mature travellers ( & us ! ) so there isn't the usual games etc for children.

A couple of places to recommend in the resort. Pacino's italian on the marina. Really good italian restaurant. For a cheaper pint we always try and stop opposite the Riviera hotel off Avenida Telefonica at 'Fagins Bar' which serves a pint of Alhambra for 1 euro! Friendly staff and nice clean bar with the cheap prices! There is another bar next door which also serves lager for 85 cents a pint. Crazy prices but both good cold pints... not watered down.

We have just booked again with Thomson for December and look forward to the return.

Spent a long weekend in this hotel for a girls weekend.
I sometimes wonder what we brits expect abroard!

The food was excellent, mainly catered for spanish guests, but we are in spain.
Plenty of it and a great choice, alway hot at breakfast and evening meals.

Quite a walk to the marina but near bus stops and the beach, also the beautiful park nearby.

Mainly older guests but given the time of year I would expect that as the weather is warm and not yet too hot.

I would agree the entertainment left a lot to be desired but there are nearby places to visit if you don't want to join in the bingo.

Have booked for next April with another girly group and would recommend it to friends.

Excellent smaller hotel in a good location, bright, modern, well appointed, decorated and cleaned to a high standard.

Food in the buffet style dining room, to be super critical was a little lacking in variety, but was always tasty. Clearing of used plates was a bit slow at times as could be the waiter service in the bar.

Double rooms were well furnished, of adequate size and we had no noise issues although the tiled corridors would have been quieter with carpet,

Because the hotel is "side on" to the sea there were only a few rooms with a full sea view but all those with a balcony had at least a limited view. Rooms on lower floors overlooking the pool could have privacy issues.

Overall a recommended hotel we would have no hesitation in rebooking.

“Nice Hotel, Food not great”

Las Arenas Hotel

May 9, 2008

We stayed at the Las Arenas for one week from the end of April to beginning of May. This hotel was recommended by a much older work colleague and it also had good reviews on this Trip Advisor Website.

FLIGHT & TRANSFERS - We booked through Globespan which I have to say was excellent, a no frills airline but it was fine. But beware of the transfers’ just take a taxi and save yourself money and hassle. Globespan do not have a Rep at the airport and we were wandering around aimlessly but we eventually found the coach and we had to sit on it for about an hour while we waited on other flights coming in. By the time we got to the hotel the people on our flight who were making their own way to the hotel were already relaxing with a drink in hand!! The coach also drops you a fair bit away from the hotel with your cases so make sure you take one with wheels...!!!

HOTEL – Easy check in, fast and efficient. Lifts are mega small and we were on the 7th floor the lift does not go straight up to this floor so you need to take a lift to 6 and then walk along a long corridor to get another lift to the 7th floor. It was okay for us but may bother some older people.

The rooms were modern and spotless, the air conditioning was great and not too noisy. The maid cleans and freshens your room/towels every day if you want. There is also a fridge in the room to keep your water and soft drinks in or in our case San Miguel..!!

We asked for a sea view at time of booking and got one, it was lovely.

The entertainment is really awful and it is full of older people sitting about listening to a guy playing a Yamah organ (badly). So go out and do something else.

The food was a source of argument between me and my husband; I though it was typical Spanish hotel strange food but he felt it was very poor quality. What people don’t eat at night expect to get it served up to you for breakfast the next morning..!!Our biggest problem with food was that they sign posted some of the foods but not others, so it was a bit of a guess...! The breakfast was quiet awful but typical Spanish idea of an English fry. One the plus side the fresh fruit was amazing.

The pool was freezing cold but some people braved it and went for a swim, usual problem of people reserving loungers even though this isnt allowed.

Prices for drinks in the hotel are quiet expensive but they do a happy hour with buy one get one free between 5-6. The go to the pub next door from 8-9 and buy one get one free in there!!

All in all a nice clean hotel, awful entertainment, typical Spanish hotel food and not of great quality. Nice surrounding area but quite a walk to the Marina along the front. Still well worth a visit.

“Excellent Hotel”

Las Arenas Hotel

May 6, 2008

I have just returned from a long weekend at the end of April with my wife and 2 friends, having stayed at the Hotel Las Arenas. We all agreed that the hotel was extremely clean, with very good and varied food, offering exccelent value for money. Even the evening entertainment was of a good standard. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a very good position, being about 20 minutes from the marina and directly across the road from the beach. I would most certainly recommend to anyone wishing to stay in Benalmadena.
