“A fantastic week's holiday, in a hotel which exceeded my expectations!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2009

We had a wonderful week at Benalmadena Palace. The hotel was beautiful, it has a welcoming reception area with friendly and helpful staff. We had a studio room with slanted roof, giving access to rooftop balcony/terrace, which was private and gave fantastic views of the sea, the mountains etc. Travelling with one child aged 7, we found plenty to keep us entertained. We made great use of the hotel swimming pools (we've really missed our daily swim since we came home!) The staff in the kids club also run the evening entertainment and do an excellent job. The evening entertainment was fantastic with the kids evening entertainment running from 8.30pm to 10pm (ish) then there was a variety of entertainment to suit all ages, with something different each night... there were vocalists, magic show, eagle and owl show, flamenco dancers, reptile show, and karaoke night. As there was so much at the hotel, it allowed us to take it easy and relax during the first part of our week, just venturing out for walks, shopping, and getting to know the area. We had a walk to Paloma Park, (signposted off 'windmill roundabout') a large park with birds, goats, hens, children play area, lake, cafe. Later in the week we got the bus to the Marina - (excellent bus service) where we admired the boats, and had a look round the shops. We had a great visit to the Sealife Centre, (nearly didn't go as we've been to other Sealife Centres, but I have to say, this was the best one I've visited and there were different sea creatures including jellyfish and octopus. On our last day we visited Selwo Marina (near to Paloma Park). A fantastic opportunity to see a dolphin show, sea lions, macaws, etc. A good day out, and we had a photo taken with Bruno the sea lion.

There are plenty of shops and restaurants close to Benalmadena Palace Hotel. As we were self catering, we were spoiled for choice with places to eat. Some of our favourite restaurants were Santini Italian restaurant, and Havana restaurant. We bought our milk and bread etc at a mini market just around the corner from Coco's Bar... the Costmar, on Pasaje del Aquile - run by a delightful English couple, Laurence and Clare. They stock all the basics, with friendly service, and very helpful, it was a pleasure to call in and have a chat while doing our shopping (now you don't get that in the bigger stores!). A bonus with this shop is that they deliver to Benalmadena Palace, so if you're not up to carrying your shopping up the steep hill, you can have it delivered.

There are plenty of places to visit, such as Tivoli World (fairground) - check what days it's open, as it was only open on the Saturday while were there; Cable car ride, Fuengirola Zoo and many more. There are plenty of leaflets at the hotel reception.

The beach is really great too, but be warned that the sea is cold at the moment (even for paddling... we were told that it doesn't get warm for another month yet, so beware!)

My only regret is that we didn't book for two weeks instead of one, but at least I've got a list of places to visit when we revisit (hope it's not too long til we go back!)

Have just returned form a last minute short break at the Benalmadena Palace and had a lovely stay there.
The staff were very polite and friendly.
I stayed on a half board basis and although there was plenty of choice, the food for dinner was similar on my four nights but no complaints on the quality, although I do think they put the veg on to cook before they went to bed the previous night!
Breakfast choice was plentiful and freshly cooked and like the evening meal the dishes on offer were continually being replenished.
I stayed in a studio apartment which consisted of a kitchenette with a sofa and tv (able to receive BBC1, BBC2, ITV2 and sky news channels ), microwave, hob, fridge and kettle. there was also an iron and ironing board if needed.
There was a seperate bathroom and double bedroom, this had no window but I didn't find this a problem because I like a dark bedroom at night and was spending no time in there during the day.
Instead of a balcony the apartment had a terrace leading from patio doors via the living area. This was walled on all three sides so you had to stand to see the fab view which I had, both pool and sea view. This terrace was therefore great if you wanted to sunbathe or just sit in pivacy with no on-lookers.
If you are looking for a central hotel then this one is a bout 20min walk from the centre and as mentioned by other reviewers is situated at the top of a very steep hill! The hill should not be a problem to most people who have a reasonable fitness level. Don't forget that you can go in through the underground car park which misses out the latter part of the hill.
All in all would recommend this hotel.

Went last Easter & v happy to return this month too. Some of the friendly staff even remembered us - good sign that so many still there a year later.
Food better than last year - some evenings I would end up having 3 or 4 courses.
Lots of salad & freshly cooked pork & fish and often much more. Even a chocolate fountain some evenings!
Breakfasts excellent too.
Indoor pool still very handy with young kids, gym small but useful, local supermarkets great for lunches & booze.
Hotel & room very clean. Cheap internet. I could go on but wrote too long review last year.
Only gripe would be sofa bed uncomfortable, and some noisy Brits a pain.
VERY useful they let you borrow beach towels for small refundable deposit.

Got back yesterday after an enjoyable stay at Ben Pal.
Stayed half board which I would reccommend anyone to do as it is much better value.
The food was very good. Lovely crispy bacon at breakfast and great scrambled eggs.
Dinner was varied, nice salads and duck withorange sauce one night. Also pasta and food for children.
Rooms are ready for a bit of renovation. We were right on the top with a hole in the roof as a balcony! Felt a bit cheated as we could see other guests sitting on their nice open balconies. Drain on balcony stank and we couldn't leave bedroom door open as the smell filled the room . We noticed the same smell in the indoor pool which really put us off. We mentioned it at Reception and maintenance man said this was a problem in Spain. When it rains or the sea is rough sewage is pushed up through the drains because the Government won't pump out a big hole where all the sewage gathers! UHMM!
We have stayed on this coast before and never had this problem. The smell can get really nasty and can't be healthy if it is sewage.
The sofa was worn out and very dirty, sheets were thin and ripped and towels grey and tatty. If these things were sorted we would have been much more comfortable.
However, despite the moaning we had a lovely time here. Staff were really nice and there was a good atmosphere about the hotel.
The hill wasn't a problem but would be for the elderly or families with children in buggies.
Great position for walking, the beach, supermarket, catching the bus to all the other resorts. Don't go self catering because you won't save any money. The price of food has rocketed and the pound is worth nothing.

My wife and I spent 8 nights with our two children aged 11 and 10 and another couple with two children of 14 and 12. We both booked over the internet via Hotel Booking companies (Alpharooms for me) and found it much cheaper than direct booking with hotel!! The hill is a problem, as it is some hike up and down to the beach every time and this was made worse by the need to get away from the pool, due to it actually being colder than the sea!! Add to this that nobody actually then went in the pool and it was incredulous that those hardly souls (2-3 kids) who went in were stopped from using either inflatable lilo's or balls - as a sign said they could not!!!! However, a stroll to see the Hotel Manager and they were allowed to at least use lilo's... The other negative was that due to it still being April, their air con was not in use and so it meant the restaurant was like a sauna at every meal time. Long trousers were requested to be worn, but leeway given - only if the 'short' trousers were below the knee....cue my shorts being worn like hipsters one night to comply!!!

It is a real shame that the above happened as it took away from what is actually a very good hotel and a good price. The rooms were clean with all facilities expected, though ensure you ask for sheets if you have two kids in the room as the put up bed comes with them but the sofa (bed 4) does not. Food quality and quantity was superb in a buffet style with some meats/fish cooked in front of you, though don't expect to get what is listed on the posted menu's as the chef's appeared not to be aware of these!!! Bar and waiter service was excellent and nothing was ever too much - make sure you get the two happy hour slots - when it's 2 4 1 on most drinks. For the sports watching fans - Setanta and Sky are present in the bars and BBC1 and ITV2 is in room for those soap addicts!!

Rooms also come with fridge and combi microwave and if you use the back access to the hotel it comes out into a supermarket - open daily from 9.30 to 9.30 where locals shop and thus prices are very very cheap indeed - shop there and not the hotel for all your 'in room' food and drinks needs - it will save you a fortune!! Also by the supermarket is a Burger King - though we did not use this.

Beach is a 7-8 minute walk (down that hill) and across a main road and sofa's and umbrella's are very cheap indeed on the beach - 6Euro's for the day!! Make sure you go to Tivoli World and pay for the 12Euro offer on the rides. Gibraltar is a must as well (you can spend Serling and Euro's), though it is cheaper if you book with hotel and not via Thomas Cook (who have this as one of their hotels and are thus on-site).

All in all a great hotel and would give it 7.5 out of 10 overall.

This aparthotel offers some great facilities such as the indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gym, all open to guests at no extra charge. Apartments were well equipped, and reasonably spacious. One side faces north overlooking the neighbouring buildings of Benalmadena, mountains, and side sea view. The other side faces south, overlooking the pool and would be the one to request if you want a more favoured outlook from your balcony.
We booked half board, and found the food quite acceptable, not quite 4 star, but then we didnt pay 4 star prices. Luckily the restaurant was still open when we arrived just before 10pm, not prime time for any buffet, but was much better on the other evenings served from 7pm. There isnt a particular dress code for dinner, so dont worry about putting on many airs and graces.
The location shall we say, enjoys panoramic views -- perched on top of a short steep hill, so for the elderly or wheelchair user, forget it. A few minutes walk takes you to the southern end of the promenade at Benalmadena. Burger King and Sunset Beach club are the nearest landmarks.
Whilst we enjoyed our stay, noise seemed to echo all round the building. The hotel bar closes at 2am and unfortunately there were several nights we were woken in the small hours by slamming doors, singing at the tops of their voices from the 7th floor balconies, tap dancing on the marble floors etc. Whilst I accept this is down to the behaviour of a small number of guests, the hotel seemed to do little minimise those issues.
There is limited on street car parking, and if you do wish to use the hotel's underground car park, it is 8 euros per day.
All in all, a full featured aparthotel that will suit many tastes. Many of the other hotels in Benalmadena look pretty tired and run down, and maybe this hotel is as good as it gets !

Back with granddaughter to this hotel. Great for kids though would never stay there ourselves. Rooms basic but clean , food definitely improved from last year but not 4 star. Overall very good value despite the fall in value of the pound.
