My husband and I stayed here for a week in April/may self catering.
When we arrived we were over the moon with the apartment we were staying in. It was a decent size, plenty of storage space, large bathroom with a fantastic large mirror and a few little extras, shower gel, hand soap, shower cap, tissues and shoe shine. There was also plenty of loo roll, which always comes in handy on hols, there is nothing more embarrassing than having to call to reception to request more.
We had a beautiful sea view. We had a super large double sliding wardrobe with floor to ceiling mirrors, which also is great on holiday, to actually being able to see what you are wearing!! :-)
The apartment was clean and everything we needed was there. ironing board, iron, kettle etc etc.
THE HOTEL IS AT THE TOP OF A VERY VERY STEEP HILL. We asked at reception is the hill the only way out, she told us yes, but actually there is a back way out, which is an easier walk and takes you right to a large supermarket. You will need your room key for this access. We arrived at the gate and found about 6 people standing unaware of what to do.
There is not much near the hotel at all, some nice café/restaurants and bars, but we could not find ANYWHERE that done entertainment at all, no music whatsoever. we asked about incase we were missing something but were told there is nowhere.
Reception gave us the information that fuengirola market was on I think was the Tuesday. reception ordered us the taxi, we told the taxi driver that we wanted to go to the market in fuengirola, he took us, charged us the 20 euros. Then we discovered that the market would not be on as they have a large event on at the weekend a bit like a continental market of beer and food. We were very disappointed that the reception did not provide us with the correct information before travelling the whole way there. Most other people seemed to be aware of this event as its quite popular!!
We did try the entertainment bar in the hotel one night. We were enjoying it and it seemed to be not a bad place to come for a little entertainment as there is nothing anywhere else. BUT bar staff seemed to feel that it was more important to serve the all inclusive guests before us who were paying for our drinks. I was waiting quite a while for the bar staff to take my order, he did when we made a point of calling him to us, he took our order, but left us sitting for another five minutes. Now this bar wasn't busy like a night club bar!! I noticed that the bar man was still taking orders from other guests and serving them their drinks. I just assumed he had forgotten and re ordered from the second bar man. The first bar man who took our drinks shouted something in Spanish and the second bar man just walked off. None of them explained why we were being left sitting while they served other guests. I had had enough and left. I did go to reception about 5 minutes later, they were not very interested in the problem, phoned to the bar and sarcastically said to me 'your drink is at the bar now if you want to go and get it'
We were not drunk, it was only our second drink. I believe the reason they left us was because the all inclusive guests stop getting free drink at 11pm, I think it was nearing this time and they were rushing to serve the free drinks out, before the guests had to pay. This would not have been a problem, if someone had of bothered to give us an explanation on why we were being ignored.
We ate at the restaurant twice, the first time we were very hungry and tired and had had a couple of drinks, we thought the food was lovely. We returned a few nights later and were very disappointed, staff were not as friendly as the first evening, and the food seemed to be of poorer quality.
Our room was like staying in a hostel made of cardboard we never got a proper nights sleep our whole stay.
We could hear everything, guests in rooms beside and above, going to the toilet, washing their hands, showering, clip clopping with their high heels across the tiled floor at all hours. Kids running up and down the corridor at 3.30am, click, clonk, click clonk opening and closing their room doors. Our room was only about 4 doors away from reception, so they would have been aware of the kids running up and down and opening and closing the doors. And everything echoes throughout the building. The bin men came most mornings at 4-4.30am, clashing the empty glass bottles into their lorry. The family above us felt the need every night to pull their beds about anything from 12am-3.30am. Then we could hear things going on that we really didn't want to!!!!!! As much as its nice to hear birds sing in the morning, but when I am on holiday I like a little lye in, so after being woke most of the night, hearing the wood pigeon woo woo wooing from about 5.30am was very annoying. I fully understand that a hotel cant stop nature, but there is no point in having black out curtains if the windows let in sound like they are open!
The hairdressers, spa, beautician was not open at all when we were there, so no option to nip in for a wee blow dry. My hubby tried to book a massage, but was told twice there was no booking spaces. The gym looked good, if your into that on hols.
Indoor pool was cold, with cold air conditioning blowing down on an already cold day. Kids running in and out of the steam room and sauna, so again after about 10 mins we got fed up and left. No point in sitting in the stream room, if the kids are allowed to run in and out letting the cold air in. and it was cold. lol The smell from the toilets in this area were vile.
If you like steak, you must visit a little restaurant along the beach front Benalmadena, the staff are soo friendly, extremely helpful and very appreciative of your custom. Its called 'Restaurante El Ventisquero' There argentina steaks are cooked to perfection and just beautiful!!!! Best steak ive ever had.
Torremolinos has some lovely shops and cafes, take the bus 110, its a lovely wee town. we took the bus to malaga centre, but wasn't worth the visit.
we will not return to Malaga as it was not the place for us.
If you want a good nights sleep, don't stay in room 320.
