We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Vistamar and did not experience any of the problems that others have listed. The hotel was ready for us when we arrived on a Monday afternoon and even upgraded us to a 1 bedroom from a studio room based solely on an email enquiry on the price to do. I did not even have to ask on arrival. Granted the room was on the 4th floor (same as reception) on the back side of the hotel, but it worked well for us.
Prior to booking the hotel was very accommodating in answering email questions regarding the property.
We arrived and got checked in then went exploring down on the beach. It’s a short 5 minute walk across the main road. There is not “Sewage” flowing into the ocean as referenced in the post below, it is simply a storm drain from the streets next to the beach. The ocean does drop off fairly quickly but we didn’t really have a problem with our 1 ½ year old playing on the beach, just be responsible parents and watch your kids.
Our room was cleaned daily with towel changes if you “requested” them by leaving the towels in the tub, not hanging up (this was clearly explained on the card posted in the bathroom). Not sure on the sheets as we declined cleaning on our first day, the second our daughter was asleep in the bedroom and the third we found clean sheets. We even found the housekeeping staff courteous when we were in the room when it was time to clean and our daughter was asleep. They were also more than willing to sweep up a broken glass that was dropped.
The desk staff was helpful in trying to arrange a different pickup time for our airport transfer and also was helpful in getting us on the right bus to head to the marina. We did take a taxi to the aerial tram and it cost 6 euros each way. The safe was 3 euros a day plus a 10 Euro deposit for the “key”.
There is a “Plus” supermarket about 200 meters to the south (past burger king) for groceries, for those familiar it was very similar to an Aldi in the US. They were pretty limited on selection and out of some items such as loaves of bread (we just used burger buns, and baguettes) We stopped at another store (supersol) when we were over by Tivoli world and found a much better grocery with better selections. I think that there is another store further south but we didn’t get that far.
We didn’t have any problems with partiers in the evening, although the hotel behind had a party at their pool ramp up around 10 pm (we were tired enough that it really didn’t seem to be a problem).
About the only complaints that we have is that the power to the room a/c is controlled by motion sensors in the living area and bedroom. So if you sat still enough or were lying in bed not moving the A/C would shut off. We found ourselves having to “kick” the air while sleeping to keep the A/C running. The beds are also pretty hard.
I’m not sure what people are expecting when they write the questionable reviews below. We found the hotel very acceptable for those that aren’t expecting the Ritz or a high end hotel. It was perfectly adequate for our family and was stylish with granite countertops, a well appointed bathroom/bedrooms and good service. It was clean and well stocked for those that want to do their own cooking.
We would return to the Vistamar on our next visit. They had exactly what we needed.
