3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

just had 2 weeks at the bali hotel.very clean and maid service excellent, but the food really let it down. We've stayed at this hotel many times before and we've never had to eat out because the food was so awful.Breakfast was ok and lots of choice but dinner was disgusting in the evening and not only us leaving full plates. We have booked to go to this hotel again in January,so we'll have to take extra money with us to eat out some nights.

Room Tip: block 2 has been refurbished.

We have just spent a week at the hotel as my wife wanted to be in the sun for her 60th birthday, arrived 11th November and thoroughly enjoyed the week. The hotel staff worked very hard and were extremely courteous, We took a HB package expecting that we would maybe need to eat out some nights. This was not neccessary as their was plenty of choice of well cooked food with staff providing a good service, great attention paid to hygeine with sanitising gel at the entrance to the restaurant. Our room was kept very clean, even the balcony was swept, and from our balcony we could clearly see staff tidying the poolside and checking the pool water. Reception was manned 24 hours by very helpfull staff.
It is very sad that some will pay 3star prices and expect 5 star hotel but there are always life's moaners-perhaps they should never have been issued a passport in the first place!
Plenty of places to visit by train, taxi and coach. The one hour ride along the coast to Marbello very scenic and it seems most visit Mijas village and i can understand why-lovely.

Room Tip: sorry but we want to be able to get the room again, a holiday is what you make it.

Super value 3 star Ai. Price we paid did reflect the dated feel to the hotel but very clean and safe.

We are a family of 4 with a 2 year old and an 8 year old.

Food was fine and lots of choice. Bar area serves you drinks with your meals in the evening, wine beer and soft drinks.

Ai.

Bar range was super with San Miguel served by the pint. Quality of spirits also was good.

Pool areas are good. Lower pool area is better for families as it is shallower and has a separate baby pool. Always sun beds which took alot of daily holiday stress away.

Kids entertainment was good with activities all day long.

Evening entertainment was fun with daily shows.

Tips

Eating out. Turn let out of the hotel head straight up to a small square full of restaurants, prices are really cheap as its not in the main area.

Supermarket.

follow instructions above to the square. Supermarket is large and quite cheap. We ran out of nappies just before home and bought a pack of 48 for 6 euros. Nappies were just like pampers we normally use. Fruit and veg you need to weigh and key in the code at the machine to print out a label before going to the till.

Local park for a walk and to see rabbits and birds is right at the bottom of the hill and right again when you get to th roundabout with thewind sails on.

Cigarettes and spirits are cheap in a local shop on the main road. Open every day, follow instruction above to the park and th shop is on your right after th Irish bar.

Finally the hill. Its fine althought a bit of a challenge when the buggy is full. Elderly took a few rest breaks on the way up but plenty taking the challenge.

We have just returned from a 7 night HB break at The Bali and cannot fault the Hotel or the staff. We had a 6th floor room with fabulous sea views, the room was clean and fresh towels supplied every day. The food was fine.... absolutely loads of choice at breakfast and dinner and anybody who found fault with the menu must have a serious eating disorder. Yes the food was not scalding hot but the Hotel provides microwaves if you want your meal at 100 degrees.

The bus stops are at the bottom of "cardiac hill"......I found it fine, a little bit steep but just take your time. I suggest getting a green tourist bus pass which gives you half price tickets. The train station is a pleasant walk up the hill in Arrayo and is very efficient and cheap and quick into Malaga. It also goes to Plaza Mayor a large out of town shopping centre well worth a visit.

The only issue I had was that in agreement with other reviewers........ there is no soundproofing in the rooms, every conversation in adjoining rooms could be heard. This was annoying at 1am every morning when the bar closed and people drank on their balcony or clip clopped in high heels on the floors above. But hey people are on holiday and they could not be expected to be in silence in their rooms.

We booked with Thomson and I am sorry to say but David their rep could not provide me with info on how to get to Nerja or Ronda and clearly was not interested unless you booked with him. We were kept waiting by Thomson in the underground coach park at Malaga airport on arrival for almost 2 hours with no explanation as to why we were sitting not moving on a full bus.

That aside I had no issues whatsoever with the Hotel, we had a fabulous holiday, will be returning next year and booking direct with the Hotel.

Room Tip: High floor in Bali 2

We had a short (7 night) all inclusive break staying on the 7th floor and had magnificent views over the sea and town. We dont do" hotel" hoildays as we normally holiday in UK so cannot compare to other hotels. Yes room walls were thin and you could hear from other rooms but it was not a real problem to us.
Clean room well maintained all week- good selection of food and drinks in the resturant and bars
Friendley staff in all areas and always willing to help
pool clean and tidy but water was cold ( but it was mid Novemebr ) although the children using it stayed in the pool most of the time

Room Tip: high rooms have best views

If you like to have private conversations, or if you like to cuddle up at night with your partner (not to mention more passionate activities), best not choose this hotel. The walls are cardboard-thin - even a whisper from the next room is audible. And ALL the rooms have twin beds - no double beds at all. Sure, you can push the beds together - but then they slide apart again, and one or both of you starts falling down the gap in the middle. And of course the single blankets slide off you in the night.

Perhaps the rooms were designed for monks who have taken a vow of chastity - and of silence...

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else?
