“Great Hotel, Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We stayed at the Sunset Beach Club from Thursday 28th March through 2nd April with our 10 year old son. The weather was very changeable, making it a challenge to keep our son entertained as it was mostly too cold for outdoor swimming, although we did manage one day.

We took bus 128 just outside the Airport to the hotel and we were dropped off right across from the hotel and similar for our homeward journey, which took about 30 minutes but expect longer in peak season. Buses to Malaga (Bus 110) and Fuengirola (Bus 120) can be picked up right outside the hotel.
Our apartment was very small but very clean and adequate for our needs. We had a pool-sea view and a fine balcony which we used a lot, given the mixed weather. The apartment was cleaned daily and the service was excellent.
We availed of breakfast, which was excellent, but somewhat repetitive, as it was the same every day. We were walking distance from a number of restaurants and had lunch in the hotel restaurant-The Oasis, which was one of the best meals we had. Food overall is good value and of average quality-La Luna on the beach is a good fish restaurant but along the strip the restaurants are of average quality.
Our son availed of the kids club once which was aimed at 4-10 year olds but is more suited to younger kids. Thereafter we found other things to do such as visiting the Marina and we went go-carting.
Overall I would recommend this hotel for families-clean, near everything, friendly and helpful staff.

Upon arrival at the hotel check in was swift and we where at our room in no time. When we arrived at our room it was clean and look pleasant but the sofa bed which me and the wife had to sleep on was shocking for a 4 star accommodation. We had to be near the cot for the baby and the bedroom was to small to fit the cot in. We should of asked for a room change but where not like that and we just tend to get on with things.

Breakfast was nice, entertainment at the hotel was okay on some nights shocking on others. It was mainly older couples and family's which suited us. Happy hour at the bar is between 18:30 and 19:30 make sure you use it because drinks are very over priced. The outdoor pools where to cold for the time of year we went but there is a indoor one but only open for the kids between 12:00-17:00. Not sure why because not many people used it in the mornings.

We never sampled the hotel restaurant in the evening but it looked nice enough. Restaurants around Benalmadena are a bit pricey but some are nice some are shocking the Chinese round is to be avoided. The Indian up the street is spot on. It's about a 5-10 min walk to the beach where all the restaurants are. I'd recommend trying Manwells best restaurant we went to. Marina is a decent walk about 30 Minutes and has a selection of posh restaurants and some grottey ones

It was a good holiday but we won't be going back to use this hotel.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review of your stay.

I’m sorry you were disappointed with the sofa bed. We are actually in the process of replacing many of the older models and would hope the problems you experienced will be solved with the new sofa beds. I’ve also made a note of your comments about the prices in the bar; we do our best to try and offer pricing which is in line with what you would expect at a 4 star hotel; however, we are always studying this and your feedback will help us with future pricing decisions.

Although you mention that you won’t be coming back to stay with us, I sincerely hope you will reconsider your decision.

Kind regards,

Justin Thompson

Lovely hotel nice staff good food, The only problem is they have a step between the bed room and the living area, of course the hotel are aware of this so they have put a hazzard warning strip and l e d lighting to warn you. Unfortunately these hazard indicators are a couple of inches short of the step, at 0400hrs half asleep I miss judged where the step was and damaged my foot,so out of 2 weeks I had 2 days when I could walk without pain. I was advised to see the onsite doctor, it cost 80 euros for five minutes and 6 paracetamol.

Room Tip: Try to book for an outside with sea view but be aware of the the to the bedroom, and leave a light o...

Once again a great stay for two weeks. The facilities are very good and, bearing in mind it was low season, the entertainment was good.
There is now a service bus to and from Malaga Airport which stops almost outside the hotel, saving on taxi fares.
We've already booked our next stay!!

I've stayed here 12 times and have never been disappointed. It's easy to get to from the airport, and is in a great location. Don't get me wrong it's not a five star fancy place but its got what it got and they make the best of it.

Staff are very helpful speaking full English too, which is always a bonus because English people mostly don't learn any Spanish before visiting. The rooms are spacious and well equipped kitchen. There is a supermarket opposite to stock up on. Their bar is big and good value for money.

Alway good here and will return soon :)

Room Tip: Sea view is the best, it's quiet too.

We stayed at the Sunset Beach Club apartments over the Easter weekend May 29 – April 1 2013. Weather was fairly nice at around 18 – 21. Some rain on the 31st.

We rented a car and found it easy enough but our GPS did not recognize the address so we kind of had to look out for it.

The resort was a lot busier than I expected but not crowded or too busy. I was surprised and pleased with the onsite services and amenities. Wifi was only in designated areas and for this reason alone I have knocked off a star. It was very inconvenient, especially with a small child, to have to leave our room to access e-mail or view a place we wanted to visit. Entertainment was on going all weekend due to it being Easter.

All staff that we encountered were very nice and helpful. Housekeeping did a good job; they do not clean your kitchen or dishes.

The apartment – We had apartment 1015 which was an exterior view apartment that was facing towards the sea. The apartment was a nice size, perfect for a family of three. I think it would still be good for a family of 4 if the children were small enough. With older teens it might seem cramped. The AC worked well. The view was really nice and the terrace an awesome retreat. It had a table with 4 chairs and was a decent size. There was a nice big closet in the room to store luggage, etc. There were even English channels on the TV!

The bedroom had two twin beds which we pushed together and our 4 year old son slept on the sofa bed. There was plenty of bedding. The beds were fairly comfortable. No real issues with the beds. There didn’t seem to be a lot of noise at night. We slept well enough.

The bathroom is tiny but does have a bath tub and shower combo. There was plenty of room to place your items on the counter by the sink. The shower had fine pressure but needed a new shower head desperately. We were only supplied two towels the first day but afterwards the staff realized we were three and left extra towels without being asked.

The kitchen was tiny but functional. The fridge worked well. The apartment had adequate means to cook with and eat with. The coffee pot was a mess of parts that didn’t normally go together but it still made a pot of coffee. We were not supplied with any washing liquid but you are given a kitchen towel.

The onsite grocery was fine and I didn’t think it was extortionate but you can find cheaper if you’re out and about. It was very handy though. The only thing you won’t find in this shop is meat such as chicken, mince, pork, etc. You have plenty of luncheon type meats to choose from.

This place has a spa but no appointments were available for us so cannot comment on that.

There was a kids club and at one point it had a bouncy castle which we just missed.

My 4 year old loved the play area.

It was too cold for us to use the pools. They are not heated to my knowledge.

We did not use the fitness club or indoor pool.

We thought the restaurant was good and decently priced. We ate one dinner and one lunch there. We did not eat breakfast so cannot comment on that.

We would recommend this place and we would stay again.

This is our fourth stay at this resort, and we found it to be very similar as before, we would like to have been entertained more than only three evening in the week in the moon light bar, the wifi needs improving, the restaurant needs to provide more choice,be aware the maids only empty bins each day, change towels and bedding in the middle of a week
Devore very good facilities well maintained and entertainment what was on was very good
We would thoughly recommend and will definitely return,
Thanks to the staff who were alway very helpful and cheerful
