This was a late booking, and we were looking to avoid the 2 Bank Holidays in May, so to avoid half termers. The Los Patos has undergone refurb. and is beautifully appointed, with well maintained grounds- everything was absolutely spotless, with bed sheets changed every day. The bar staff were very pleasant, which is more than can be said for the Reception staff, who found it hard to understand English, but appeared to have no difficulty with French. There were few British people in the Hotel, which made socialising difficult, the first half of our week there it was all Spanish guests, and the second half they were all French and German. This was reflected in the food choices at breakfast, the tea was disgusting and cereal choices poor. The food was geared to those who like pastries and cooked meat in the mornings ! We were relieved to only be eating breakfast there. The real killer though, is that hill ! when we had walked up and down a few times a day, we were worn out, with aching calf muscles. The hotel is unsuitable for those who do not have a car, and for whom a fair walk up a sloping hill with hardly any pavements would be a problem. There is still building work going on in the block adjacent to the hotel, but this is not intrusive, apart from dodging various vehicles on the road, including large lorries. I disliked Benalmadena, as the hotel was a bit far out for me, and the area reminded me of Blackpool ! We visited some pretty places, such as Mijas, but down at the Marina, which is picturesque, again a steep hill to climb to get back to the bus. Large sections of the main road were being dug up and resurfaced down there, which gave the area a rather sad and seedy look. Bus fares are good value for money, and enable you to get to a lot of places. I would never visit this part of Spain again, but have only small concerns about the hotel, the main one being, Location, Location, Location !
