“Very chilled out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013 via mobile

Just spent a week here and loved every minute. This hotel is a great find away from all the regular tourist spots near Malaga. It's perfect for chilling out on a quiet sun terrace or by the pool, and is definitely more for couples.

The rooms are clean and air conditioned. They have a safe and a fridge. The shower had good water pressure. We had a sea view one and it was definitely worth it. The location is raised up from the coast so the views are stunning.

There's a tv in the room but the only British channel is Bbc world.

The staff are helpful and friendly. The breakfast is excellent, you can order eggs and bacon, and help yourself to coffees, juices, breads, pastries, yogurt, cheeses, cold meats, and fruit.

There's a great sun terrace and separate pool area. The hotel provides towels for this.

A couple of great restaurants are a minute walk away, Fuenta and El Nino. Good British pub nearby called the Bull, and a couple of nice relaxed bars on Calle Real. There's a small convenience store almost next door.

It's not too far from the airport, about 20 minutes drive. We rung the hotel before we got there and they arranged the transfer for us.

Fabulous hotel in a very beautiful village. The reception area is most impressive, check in was nice and easy with professional and friendly staff. Our room was immaculate with a wonderful view overlooking the coast. There is a pool and a roof area to soak up the sun. I would honestly rate this hotel as 5 star, if you're looking for a relaxing break this is the place.

this is as perfect a piece of paradise you could ever find in this very tired part of Spain. DO NOT BE PUT OFF that it is near Benalmedena (or Torremolinos). It is so far away from an English Fish & Chip holiday that you could get!
We were lucky enough to have booked the only room with the private terrace but the roof terrace and pool area were so quiet it wouldn't have mattered if we had no terrace although spending a late evening with a bottle of wine (under 2euro from the shop next door) watching the ever changing sea view was well worth the small extra cost for this room.
The best bar/restuarnat of the imediate are has to be Bar Mason Pepe adjacent to the Church. With a Tapas lunch and beer for 4 euro and a evening meal with wine ( and the complimentary 'small' brandies for 25 euro this was just the best place to be! Whilst we were there we celebrated my 50th birthday at the most expensive restaurant 'La Perla' in the village. Wow! what I can I say the food was to die for and although it was around 60euro for the two of us it was expensive for the area ( but not overall). This included a complimentary appetizer and chocolate macaroons brought with the bill.

All in all I would recommend this hotel and the area of Benalmedena Pueblo to everyone who feels that Spain or the Costa De Sol no longer holds any attraction...yes it does....but if you don't want to go then I can keep this magical place all to myself.

Room Tip: room 203 has a private south facing terrace with 2 sunloungers and a table and chairs...worth paying...

What a wonderful hotel ,truly Spanish .we had our daughters wedding reception here,
All the wedding party stayed at the hotel which had been refurbished, anything we asked for was provided
We cannot praise the staff and hotel enough for organising the wonderful reception

Although a little hard to find, La Fonda is tucked away round the corner from La Niña (the iconic fountain in the square) down a charming narrow road of white washed buildings peppered with blue flower pots and crimson flowers. Finding the hotel was not a stressful experience but one that took my breath away. This part of Benalmedina is truly stunning.

On entering the hotel we were greeted by an entrance hall which was equally beautiful. Inside an immaculate foyer with a glass roof, you are greeted by a fountain trickling whilst hotel guests sup from drinks at the hotel bar. It has a Mediterranean garden feel to it; in fact one could feel as if they are sitting outside rather than in a hotel lobby. The hotel staff were attentive and polite and showed us to our room which we reached via an impressive glass lift that overlooked the pool area. On entering the room, we were greeted with rose petals scattered over our bed and our bath towels arranged in to two swans with champagne, chocolates and a strawberry fruit platter (the food and drink of which I paid for as it was an anniversary treat but none the less was executed fantastically). Our room (201) had sea views so, in my opinion, was worth the upgrade.

A walk around the hotel was a pleasure. Up on the roof is a large sun trap of a terrace, peppered with beautiful flowers and clean, modern sunloungers. One could easily forget they are in a 3* establishment as this terrace would not look out of place in a 5* hotel or a super swanky bar/nightclub in Puerto Banus! The views of the sea are fantastic.

Down the steps leads you to the heart of the hotel; the pool. This area is really breathtaking. Iron steps lead the way to the pool and the pops of colour provided by the beautifully kept flowers that entangle the steps and railings make for quite a scene. The amount of time, effort and attention the staff here give to the upkeep of the plants and cleanliness of the communal areas is remarkable and sets it apart from other hotels I have stayed at.

Even though I am not a breakfast person, I was pleasantly surprised by the array of options available each morning. There was coffee, tea, juices, fresh fruit (including cherries, mango and melon), yoghurts, toasties, croissants and even omelettes and scrambled eggs and bacon made to order. The really special part about breakfast though is the breakfast terrace area. Wow! With a sunrise as your backdrop, you sit at modern blue and white tables with matching baby blue table cloths to match the baby blue awning overhead. On the last morning the sunrise was stunning as was the food, the service and the beautiful flowers. I didn't want to go home.

This may be only a 3* hotel (although I'd really can't see why) but everything is stands for is 5* all the way. This immaculate, well-tended to hotel is a real hidden gem of Benalmedina and I hope it stays that way. I visited with my partner (both late twenties/early thirties) and although is was half term (I'm a teacher) we had the pool to ourselves most days and most guests were either couples or families with older children (16+). In my opinion, this is not a hotel for young clubbers or families with young children as Benalmedina is quiet and centres around good food and fine wine not cheap alcohol deals and the hotel pool area is small, intimate with limited space for sunbathing which would not suit families.

A final note.... Go to La Fuente restaurant-a 10 second walk from the hotel in the square and La Niña directly opposite La Fuente. Excellent food and wine.

To sum up, everything about La Fonda is 5*: the hotel itself, the grounds, the terraces, the staff, the beautifully kept flowers and the views. If you are a couple looking for romance and peace and quiet in salubrious surroundings, look no further.....

Room Tip: If it's a special occasion then pay more for a sea view. Also, they will provide you with champa...

We stumbled upon this hotel when we had booked a last minute vacation to La Fonda Apartments in Benalmadena ( definately not to be confused with this beautiful hotel ! ) As we expected the apartment was average, but as we strolled around the little white washed village of Benalmadena Pueblo, we found Hotel La Fonda, and thinking it was part of the same apartments that we had booked, we stepped inside to have a look. How wrong were we? It was the most amazing, beautiful place.. a very andalucian boutique hotel. The views from the rooms are breathtaking, and the welcome from the owner/manager Mr Antonio Aguilera was second to none, he was a lovely friendly man who could not do enough for us. The continental breakfast is served in the most beautiful setting and a must to see ! If you love a holiday that is off the beaten track a little and love the authentic spain, then this is the place to go.

Room Tip: All rooms are beautiful and decorated in typical andalucian fashion, but the rooms with sea views ar...
