“If nothing else, close to station”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2011

Stayed just the one night as we had booked our flights a day early so that we could be at our holiday apartment early the next morning, rather than arrive late that day and lose almost a full days holiday. Didn't pay a huge amount for the room. It was about £47.00 so we didn't expect luxury. Suffice to say the room was habitable, the balcony rail perhaps outside, bordering on dodgy if not dangerously low ( not a place we would recommend sleep walking) but in that respect you are perfectly safe, because you won't get any sleep. Management would appear to be oblivious or again they may not hang around to listen, but there is no control whatever over "guest" noise at all hours. Possibly this establishment would suit the younger generation, and most certainly anyone who is deaf, but for the rest of us, we would suggest you give this place a body swerve. However if you still want to go, it's easily found.
Train to Benalmedena, turn immediately right at exit of station, down a few steps, turn left, cross the road at pedestrian crossing about twenty yards down, turn left at the other side of the crossing, take the first right, maybe another fifty yards or so and the hostel is on your right hand side a short distance down. Book in and insert ear plugs.

I spent a week in this hotel with my partner. After reading some reviews I was a little wary of staying but there was no need to be.
It is situated in a lovely bright square.
The rooms are very basic but have a bathroom, air-con and TV and lots of space for storage. My room was very clean- it was cleaned every day and the towels were replaced regularly. The bed was very comfortable with crisp white sheets. I had a little balcony, which was nice too.
The staff in the hotel are very friendly and helpful. The bar is open 24 hours and the drinks measures are very generous!
The location is perfect for sight-seeing. The train station and bus stop are 1 minute away so very convenient for getting around. Local taxis are also available at all hours.
The beach is a little walk away- 15 minutes but it is quite a scenic route, especially if you walk through the park.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I would not hesitate to stay here again.

The Hostal is situated in a pedestrianised road in the centre of Arroyo. it is very basic and could do with being updated. It was clean, the first room we had was overlooking the front which was nice as it had a balcony. The second room was an internal room and smelt strongly of stale smoke and resembled a prison cell?? as it was a tiny. When we requested another room the receptionist was not very helpful. There is a small snack bar. Overall was ok for the money and centrally located, 2 min walk from the train station.

Room Tip: Request a room with a balcony.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2011

Stayed here for 3 nights, beginning of July.
For my first few nights I stayed in Sahara Beach Club (recommended!) in Benalmadena, but it was fully booked out later so had to find something else.
Friends recommended me a place in Arroyo de la Miel that was very cheap but turned out to be a complete nightmare (family-owned apartment, they just barely moved to the 2nd floor when I got there, leaving me a stinky dark ground floor) - won't even name the place as no-one should even consider using that one. Enough said, I moved out just after 3 hours of being there (and still had to pay for 1st night).

So, here I am, in Arroyo de la Miel (close to Benalmadena), with luggage and all and no place to sleep. Decided to act cool, and asked around in local bars/restaurants (basic Spanish skills help a lot here). One of the recommended places was this hostel, Sol y Miel.

Went there, was met by a super-friendly receptionist -- actually, staff there is just amazing! Haven't seen such a knowledgeable and friendly staff anywhere else in past 3 years! And I stay 300+ nights/year in hotels, 4- and 5-star ones. Sol y Miel staff could be an example to all those Hiltons, Marriotts and Sheratons.
I really though it's worth mentioning the staff, they're really _that_ good.

Turned out there are rooms available, ask for a double room (got room 302, was able to check it out first before deciding), walk-in rate was actually better than on booking.com :-) All credit cards accepted, company invoices issued on request - superb.

Room is relatively big (25 m2 or so), bright (that was very important to me), there's a small flat TV with digital Spanish channels (60 of them; TV has also a DVD player and USB socket - didn't test them though). A/C is there, and it's working well, and it's really helpful as there's barely any breeze in Arroyo.

Bathroom is a bit of disappointment. Don't get me wrong, it's clean and all - but shower is super-tiny (actually impossible to turn around, you have to walk out and walk back in to shower if you want to change position :-), and shielded by a plastic curtain (why not glass? why? ... OK, it's a hostel, still disappointing)

My first night wasn't good as in adjacent room (303, triple-or-more size) were some British students, and it was their last night -- drinking and shouting until 4am, then they woke up again at 9. Fortunately, they moved out so nights 2 and 3 were good.

There's free WiFi available, although I had to use it in a lobby (signal was too weak in my room). But - it's free, it's fast, and there's a bar and tables in the lobby -- so it's work emails while eating breakfast and/or sipping beer/wine. Great!

Hostel is very close (3 minutes walk with luggage) from local train station, it takes approx 20 mins to get to/from the airport, train fare is 1.60 EUR one way. Super-convenient.
Bar in the hotel is small and serves limited breakfast (just little toasted buns with oil and/or jam), if you want bigger one you have to walk outside. That being said, there's a throng of local bars and restaurants around, also few English places in nearby square (bit hidden that square).
Can seriously recommend Mexican restaurant next to palm-tree roundabout (just follow the signs to Burger King and SuperSol market, it's close to that) - one of the best mexican dishes I've eaten recently.

To get to the beach... Well. You can either walk (20-25 minute walk down the hill, 35-40 minute walk coming back) or take a bus, there's a few of them, every 30-60 minutes, depending on the bus and route. Arroyo is not a beach location, nearby Benalmadena is.

Overall - too tiny shower, walls a bit too thin -- but it's a hostel, after all. Well worth the price, can really recommend it to budget travellers.

Room Tip: ask to see the room first! and don't take a single room, pay extra for double

This hostel is value for money, situated on a beautiful tree lined street, with no passing traffic. The staff are friendly,, from arrival to departure, The rooms are basic , there is a tv, showing spanish channels but who goes on holidays/breaks to watch tv. The, rooms are cleaned , beds are made ,and clean towels everyday. Location excellant, plenty of bars, shops and resturants, 5minutes from the train station, we drove up and an added bonus ,free public car park about 10 minutes away, It is a bit of a walk to the sea front, but its all down hill so its not that bad and there is a lovely park with animals and wildlife to pass through. A taxi cost us 5euros to get back.

Location - the hostel is very close to the train station and easy to find during the day (when there's people around to ask). It’s also really close to good cafes etc which is great for breakfast options in the morning.

Hostel - the staff are friendly and speak English, the rooms are basic but clean and has everything you need. I stayed in March which is when they're not very busy so it was quiet and peaceful.

Room rated 3/5 because bathroom is not very well lit and while its a good size, the fittings are as such that you keep bumping into them! And I'm quite small so... However if you move around slowly you can generally avoid bumping into stuff.

Overall I enjoyed my stay, it was good value and I had a room with a balcony so woke up with the sun shining through the room
