“A place to taste real hungarian food and traditions!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

This small town/resort is very well known around Europe for good food and thermal waters. It is located about 100 km from the city I grew up in Oradea ( NW of Romania) , 30 km from a main Hungarian city Debrecen and about 1 and 1/2 hours from Budapest going East! This is one of the best place to be if you have time to spare or if you just drive by and want to stop for dinner or a stroll in the charming resort. From 4 stars hotels to rural renting rooms you can find a place to stay for everyone;s budget.
How to get there, by train or bus from main cities around or just driving from Budapest on E60 going East and at some point you have to bare left :)
Pros: quite place, can find both expensive accomodations or more friendly buget prices, very safe resort, thermal baths and swimming pools with a water park and fresh cooked food right at the edge of the pools!
Con's: maybe more german speakers than english, better to have the local currency so you do not get charged any extra fees for paying in a foreign country.

Highlight of the place:
FOOD FOOD FOOD!! I am a very picky eater but this place makes me go crazy every time I go!
My fav dish is always at Kemences Csarda - foie gras with country potatoes and red caggabe and I;ve almost forgoten the gulas !! .. crazy desserts and appetizers, make sure you go very hungry and plan to stay about couple of hours to gobble up everything.
Great service and most of them speak at least 2-3 languages!

Aww I can not wait to see this place in summertime again!!

ciao

“Overcrowded”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

Nothing special. Several pools, several attractions, hot thermal pool and very-very-very big crowd.
However, the massages were very pleasant and cheap.

“Hajdusoboslo SPA, The biggiest Spa in EU”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

Aqua Palace - Adventure bath

I have been here in december 2011. This is the largest bath complex in Europe with the water area of 15.000m2
It is located in the north of Hungary, near the Czechoslovakians Republic. Spa has a very large number of pools (20) indoor and outdoor. Themed pools are popular and there are a large number of deck chairs for the rest that are not charged separately. We werw bathing in a few different swimming pools : ice bath, cinema bath, tropical bath, Ganges bath, Roman bath, sea bath and a cave bath . Each pool is decorated in the style of its name. They have 3 types of saunas: Finnish saunas , hammam and infrared saunas. Rally, we had a great time!
During the summer, a huge water park works with slides, and other forms of entertainment. Thay have a good wellness and fitness program, but if you go on a day you will not have time to try all. In the middle of winter tematic baths, saunas and external thermal pools are more than enough to implement a quality entertainment and recreation in your one-day-leisure.
Restaurant has a great variety of food, a good pastry shop. In the basement there is a huge space with lockers and changing cabins. You can easily store your stuff and lockers operates through bracelets that you get when you buy a ticket (13 euros / adult). There are enough hairdryers . It is clean and tidy.
If you have young children you are free to have bath with them in the baby-mommy pool , baby swimming pool, whirlpool, family pool with animal figures. They have baby and children slides , children playground, place for dipers changing. Children will enjoy here.
The spa is good for all ages!

“Makes the Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

One of the largest in Europe. Lots of people travel from all the neighbouring countries to use it's facilities. However I do believe we were the only British visitors during our stay. In the main season in spite of it's massive size, it can become crowded. As we went towards the end of the sommer, we had no problem. However one irritating problem was, that in order to be able to get the over 65's discount for the entrance fee, we had to produce an personal identity document. As here in the UK we don't have compulsory National Identity card like most other countries, it meant we had to carry our passports, instead of leave it in the appartment in the safe. Mind you, both of us are in our 70's so it was obvious that we were over 65. In fact as all public transport is free to over 65's of EU member countries, we travelled by train, bus, tram, undergraound and NEVER needed to show our passport. The Spa is very popular, but could do with some maintenance, for example the changing cabin doors badly needed some fresh paint, specially the one facing the sun. A nother minus point is that though the main Strand is large with many cold and warm water bathing facilities, if one wanted to visit the Aqua Palace or the Aqua Park (both on the same site) one needed to buy extra entrance tickets at the full price.

“Aqua Palace - a real pleasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

The indoor spa (Aqua Palace) is not to be missed. Theme pools, lots of comfortable deck chairs to relax and a wonderful children's world (pools, slides and out-of-the-water playrooms), designed with the obvious intention to please the whole family.
