We travelled with a group of 24 people who were regular skiers and knew what to expect of a usual snow holiday.
As soon as we left Watford, the farce began. We had a toilet on the coach that did not flush and a 19 hour journey ahead! When we arrived in the Alps it was snowing heavily and our driver and co-driver spent 40 minutes trying to attach the snow chains. They then informed us they had not done so before and did not know how to. Luckily a member of our party had some experience and put them on, assisted by other passengers. This made us an hour late.
Our ‘Hotel’ was grubby and disorganised. Our room had several large mould patches. The rooms were not serviced if you left your key at reception after 9.30am (breakfast was till 10am). This meant that unless you took all your gear to breakfast, your room would not be serviced. Several of our party did leave their keys, but the only purpose of this was to get toilet paper, as the room did not get serviced.
During our stay the food was abysmal, we were told the day before we came home that the chef had been sacked. My only surprise was that there actually was a chef. One night we had lasagne, with kidney beans in?…later we were informed that the staff lunch had been chilli. We had banoffee pie one evening, which consisted of a crushed biscuit base with sliced banana and squirty cream. The food was so repulsive that some of our party resorted to dining out. I asked the kitchen to just make me a cheese roll for dinner on the last 2 nights. Not only were the combinations of food very strange, they were often uncooked and inedible.
75% of the guests during our stay had a vomiting and Diarrhoea bug. We were told by a member of staff that this had been prevalent for a few weeks and that a group from another hotel who had been eating at ours had also been infected. This ‘bug’ could have been contained if the hotel had any degree of hygiene. On evening we were in the bar area waiting to be called, and saw a vomit soaked towel under the table in the lounge. This had been there since the evening before. On one occasion I asked that a particularly grubby table be wiped as it had not been cleaned for a couple of days. I know this because there were pieces of paper stuck in the gooey mess on the surface that had not moved. After it had been the table still had glass marks and sticky areas!
I made a suggestion that some alcohol wash should be put in the communal toilets to stop the spread of this bug; this was not implemented. The toilet in the lounge area had a towel that had not been washed all week. There was a paper towel dispenser that was broken for the duration of our stay.
Some of our party had children in ‘kids club’; I suspect that they paid a good deal for this service. I am not a skier, and sat in the lounge area on a couple of occasions reading in the morning. During this time I witnessed the ‘half hearted’ attitude of the lady who was supposed to be entertaining the children. I also witnessed the squabble between members of staff trying to decide who would take over, when the first lady refused to do it.
One day all the electricity had gone off. Some of our party were in the lounge area (not well enough to ski) and witnessed the panic that ensued regarding an unpaid electric bill. This lasted for several hours. Unfortunately it didn’t stop the kitchen staff delivering some tepid slop that evening for dinner.
Our comments had all been passed daily to an apologetic and very ashamed manager. We were asked to put our comments and they would be sent to head office. I handed mine directly to the manageress who informed me that she would send this with her comments and ask for a response. That was 9 months ago. Other people in my party have written directly to Snowcoach, they were told they would receive a response within 42 days…they are still waiting.
This company have no customer service, they take your money and forget about you. They presume that after 6 weeks you will have forgotten or given up. I guess they are also thinking that the season will be over so why worry. Do not use this company – do not go to this hotel…..they both stink!!
