“4 days of great skiing but dubious travel arrangements”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Just back from 4 days of skiing with Snowcoach. Hotel was fine - comfortable and good adequate quantities of food - but the travel arrangements out and back were well below expectation - I did not expect to be "Lost in France" with the coach driver obviously out of his comfort zone (not much English and no French at all) - additionally, I did not expect to be transferred to a 2nd smaller bus at 6am in the morning - the return journey was much of the same, with a bus transfer initially and change to main bus at near mid-night. The transfer across SE England was poorly arranged with no information available (via Central London!?) - we missed our train connection at Hatfield. Overall, I would go back to St Gervais and stay at the Terminus - BUT go by 'plane or drive yourself.

No hot water or heating for 2 days due to owner not paying gas bill, filthy cutlery and crockery, minimal breakfast, dirty room with unsightly stained mattress, broken lift..........Half the staff left during our stay as they hadn't been paid, not the happiest atmosphere!! Good chef in the evenings though and fab skiing!

Recently returned from an enjoyable holiday as part of a small group, all first timers to this resort, which we found offer an excellent range of sking which compared well with pervious trips to La Plagne, Duez Alps, and Les Arcs. The 10 min bus transfer to the bottom lift worked better then anticipated.
For some reason I quite enjoyed the stay at Terminus, that is despite the lift not working, out of order for 3 months, as was the steam room, 2 days without heat and hot water in room-we were told there was trouble with the boiler - to find they had run out of gas and could't afford to top up. We had lift passes booked as part of package but, instead of getting 1 for the week we had to wait each morning for the manager to get 1 for that day, seemed the budget wouldn't stretch to the inital outlay & heard one group had been given them for just the imiediate area and could't access the lift at Combleau when they got there.
On a positive note Food was good despite some odd combinations at breakfast, as was the hot tub and found there to be a friendly atmosphere in the Hotel.

Room Tip: With lift not working go for 1st or 2nd floor [2 flights of 10 between each floor + another flight d...

Just returned from a 7 .5 day skiing holiday with Snowcoach. Firstly I would like to say a huge thank you to Natalie, the hotel Manager and all her staff for a truly great holiday.

New coaches, giving extra leg room made the journey a comfortable experience - friendly chatty drivers who kept us updated with the progress of our journey. We arrived a little bit ahead of schedule - but this was great as it meant we would be out on the slopes earlier than we expected.

From the moment we arrived at the hotel we were treated in a kind, polite and friendly manner. Okay the lift was not working, but Natalie apologised,( this was something totally beyond her control ) and let everyone know that if they needed any help taking the luggage to their rooms later in the day the staff would be more than happy to do so.

We had breakfast, shown were we could get changed, kitted out with boots and skis by Stuart, helpful chap and quickly transported to the lift to enable us to enjoy a good days skiing. We were informed of times the minibuses would be back to take guests back to the hotel, running until all guests were back.

On return we were allocated rooms and staff assisted us with transporting our luggage to the room- this was available to all guests.

The room was small but adequate - after all it is a base for sleep. The evening meal was excellent plentiful and free wine was a great bonus. This set the scene for the rest of the week. Great meals and plenty of it! Home made cakes, tea and coffee available for us on our return each day after a great days skiing.

We found the hotel to have a great atmosphere, polite, friendly and helpful staff. Yes it is a young team - but they work hard and long hours and were more than helpful. We had plenty of hot water available - we learned the trick - don't go straight in the shower when you get back, have some tea and cakes, then a couple of beers in the bar - chatting about your day with Ollie, the friendly barman.

Five star this hotel is not - but if you want an affordable holiday, a great ski area, good food with friendly, pleasant staff then this is the place for you - if you want 5 star then I suggest you pay five star prices!

The evening meal on departure day is a great bonus, plenty of time to have a full days skiing, have a shower and prepare for the journey home.

We WILL be returning again - hopefully at Easter, we made some great friends that we hope we will see again. Natalie and her team contributed to making our stay a pleasant one - and I thank them all and hope to see them all again soon!

To finish off I would just like to say I am appalled at previous comments made, and find it quite strange that 2 comments made are very similar, could this be Mr & Mrs? I feel it is malicious and unfair to make written nasty comments about someone when they have no chance to defend themselves. This could actually be construed as slander! and from our experiences the comments are totally untrue!

My daughter and I have just returned from a very enjoyable week at the Terminus hotel in St Gervais. Yes, there were some issues but I'll deal with the positives first:
- the staff were all very friendly and helpful
- the hotel is basic but clean
- dinner (4 courses and plenty of it) was excellent and the cakes at tea time were pretty good too!
- having a member of staff sitting at each table worked well - we sat mainly with Sarah and Adam and they did a great job, joining in with the conversation and, as well as serving food and clearing plates, making sure that bread, water and wine was replenished as needed
- being able to pick up skis, boots and helmets from next door to the hotel was great and Stewart took care to ensure that we were all fitted out with the correct skis and boots etc
- the coach and minibus service up to the slopes took 10 minutes but meant that we didn't have to walk more than about 20 metres in our ski boots before hitting the slopes
- the ski area was big enough to keep intermediate skiers busy for a week or so (possibly a bit short on black runs if you are looking for something more challenging).
- although the lift wasn't working, the staff offered to carry cases up and down stairs
- we met a great group of people!

Now for the negative bits:
- the hotel ran out of hot water on day 2 so we had tepid showers on one day followed by stone cold showers the next, which was not much fun after a day on the slopes. Various reasons for this were given - provided you went to reception and asked. The owner of the company was at the hotel and should, I think, have communicated with guests en masse (e.g. at dinner) as to what the problem was (rumours were rife that the bills hadn't been paid) and when it would be fixed rather than disappear into the background and leave Natalie the hotel manager to deal with us all individually.

- one of the reasons we chose Snowcoach was the ski guiding service they offered so it was disappointing that, due to the changes imposed by the French authorities, this didn't happen. Although the company's hands were tied in this respect, Snowcoach should have communicated with its clients, either before leaving the UK or in resort, as to what alternative service would/could be provided....or even to let us know that there was no alternative!

In summary, the Terminus is not a 5 star hotel (and doesn't pretend to be), so as long as you set your expectations at a reasonable level and go with the flow, you could - like us - have a great time!

Room Tip: Choose 1st floor while the lift is out of action

Just returned from a week (7.5 days of skiing) staying at the Hotel Terminus with Snowcoach. As remarked by Meyerman, it is what it is, a budget hotel, designed for people that want to ski for longer than a week and on a budget. The staff at the hotel are very good and friendly and you wont fault their current chefs offerings, the food was excellent. The transfers up to the slopes was fairly efficient and they were always there to pick us up at the end of the day. I'll also mention Stuart, who did a great job at maintaining the ski equipment and even repaired my boot for me, he also spotted my wife had been given a lower level ski than we hired and quickly upgraded them. If your looking for a good base to ski a fabulous area, with nice, easy going staff, all on a tight budget, then this hotel is ideal. They have a large telly room showing all the sport (it could do with a tidy up) and they put on apres ski nights, which could go on quite late, but as most of us were there to ski, we didnt have too many late late nights. I'll definitely be going back next year and if the same crowd are there, that will be a plus too. The operator Snowcoach have upgraded their coaches and travel from Dover to the Hotel Terminus was far more comfortable than in previous years, so perhaps the operators are slowly upgrading their services and no doubt eventually the prices will go up...............so enjoy it while its affordable.

I travelled to the hotel Terminus with Snowcoach in February this year. I know this is a budget hotel but there is no excuse for lack of Customer Service and cleanliness. The very tiny outdated rooms are very basic, there was no hot water for the length or stay, when speaking to Natalie the hotel manager she said that it was busy and everyone was showering at the same time.......surely after a days skiing on the slopes thats what everyone wants to do!
Breakfast was a mismatch of eggs/beans one day and then bacon/mushrooms the next and so on and to top this off the cutlery was always dirty!
The lift was not working which after you have dragged your bags up the flights of stairs is not a problem but what I object to is being lied too by Natalie that the lift had only just broken, only to find out later that it had infact been out of action for the past 3 weeks.
The hotel is run by students who are more happy to spend their life looking at their phones/laptops and getting drunk than looking after the guests, they are not bothered about anything as long as they get to ski!
The mini buses and coaches are old and outdated and always breaking down and there is no organisation around dropping of and picking up from the ski slopes.
I feel very let down by snowcoach, I do understand that this is a budget hotel but manners and cleanliness cost nothing within the hotel.
On a positive note the skiing was amazing but I will never return to the hotel Terminus and will never use Snowcoach again.
