“First Club Med Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Having been on a number of ski holidays with Mark Warner we went to Club Med with friends and children. Having been overwhelmed the first night by the number of people in the dining area, I slowly got used to it. The choice of food and the red wine was excellent as well as the entertainment. Most of all the staff were super friendly and always smiling and helpful. Our daughter loved the evening live shows and the crepes after ski school was over. All in all a really fab holiday, even better as we had fresh snow a number of days we were there! Highly recommended to anyone with children looking for a place for both adults to relax and children to have lots of fun! Many thanks to Khassim and his GO team.

A very happy GM xx

Our 3rd Club Med and the best yet. This is a family friendly resort in keeping with the Club Med tradition so lots of children running around having a great time.
The location - ski in, ski out. Large varied ski area and some less popular but very scenic areas such as Montalbert - great for when the glacier is fogbound.
Ski School - I have an issue with the ESF ski school and the ratio of instructor to child skier (1:15). Club Med has historically washed it's hands of any criticism regarding the ski instruction but given that ESF have the monopoly here I believe Club Med should step up and exert some consumer power on our behalf (even if it means cutting into someone's profit margin). One day at the top of a chair lift we watched an instructor ski past with thirteen 7-8 year olds and I remarked how ridiculous it was for one adult to be taking a large 1 star group on a high blue run. Five minutes later a skier noticed one poor child who had been left behind from the group whilst trying to put on his skis! We told our instructor who eventually reunited the child with the group. Not the fault of the instructors who individually are hugely popular and a big hit with all ages, rather the manager who decides the class sizes. Our adult group also seemed too large and we became quite limited as to where we could ski by the less able amongst us.
Accommodation - we had two interconnecting rooms, small but clean and adequate. We fortunately had great weather but I did not feel there was much to do had we needed to spend a day or so inside. A couple of pool tables was pretty much it.
Restaurant - amazing and varied food
Kids club - sorted out the kids before lessons and help them putting on boots, finding skis. The staff are generally attentive, pleasant and work hard. Any potential causes of stress in a ski holiday are taken out of one's hands efficiently and with a smile.
One family in our ski group had come back to this resort for the last ten years which is a great vindication. I can see us coming back some time but only once we've tried some other resorts and maybe some private ski tuition.

Room Tip: Mountain view is alright but room windows are small so may not be worth the premium. Ask for a lower...

This was our 7th Club Med ski holiday. The property is beginning to show its age with tired looking bar and reception areas. Room was basic but clean and fulfilled all you need for a ski holiday. Usual buffet meals as per all Club Meds but only average compared with some of our other destinations i.e. Chamonix, St Moritz. Evening shows were some of the best with regards to costumes and content. One major complaint about this destination on this particular week was the lack of international diversity. We have skied with people from all over the world at Club Med and that is one of the joys of the holiday. However this time the place was dominated by people from Israel. The majority were fine but some including their children were anything but. When one group is in the majority it certainly spoils the ambience of the place. I am not making a criticism of people from Israel in particular as we have stayed in a Club Med full of Turks. Diversity of nationalities is the answer but I dont know how this can be achieved. The skiing this week was superb and we had the best ESF teacher we have ever had. The new ClubMed at La plagne will probably be the better option

Went for a week with friends. The hotel itself is quite basic but fine for us. But there seemed to be a big varying in the room sizes the people in our group had even though we had all in theory booked the same types of rooms. Rooms were well equipped but mine was tiny. I especially liked the heated towel rail. My room was always well cleaned by house keeping. So no real complaints on the room other than some being very small compared to others having room for a sofa!

The communal areas were a great size. Loads of seating. The theatre seats were turned around in the day to make seating plus there was the bar and two lounge areas to sit in. So even our largish group found areas to sit whenever we wanted to.

The GOs were all lovely. From the bar staff to the restaurant to the reception to the ski room in fact they were all just so nice and friendly. Most spoke fluent English and always were smiling or trying to help you if needed.

I went to ski school (the only member of our group to) and had a fab week. Really installed my faith back into it after a very bad experience last year. My instructor was lovely. Gave me plenty of great advice and confidence especially off piste.

The location of the resort is ok. The ski in/out was great. There isn't really much stuff around though. But if you walk up a bit to proper Aime la Plagne (50m?) there is a cable car that takes you to Plagne Centre so not too bad.

The only fault I found of the resort was that it was really lacking in party atmosphere compared to the other CM resorts I've been to. It seemed much more family orientated which I know is because it is a family resort but even other family resorts I've been to cater for adults too. I think I would only recommend this resorts to families because of this.

All in all we did have a great week. Just could have done with a bit more party atmosphere.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

January 2013. My wife and I have just returned from a perfect weeks skiing with Club Med at Aime La Plagne. We both only started skiing 5 years ago from scratch at the age of 55 and both learned to ski with the excellent english speaking ESF instructors at all Club Med resorts and we always hire our equipment at the hotel as part of our booking. All inclusive means all inclusive and we only spent an additional 50 euros all week when we decided, as our ski group, to eat out one day on the mountains, on an extended day long trip.
We now like skiing so much we have been skiing with Club Med some 10 times in the past 5 years so we are able to compare their various resorts in France and Italy. We like Club Med because it is so convenient from booking, equipment hire and professional ski instruction for all different levels, from beginner to expert, good hotel and great food, not least the all inclusive bar, so you know what the costs are before you go on holiday. If you've eaten and had drinks out in France recently it is very expensive, so the certainty of knowing your costs in advance is assuring.
Although one of the cheaper resorts in the Club Med brochure and our first time visiting this one, we found it really good, and the ski locker room and ski in and ski out was very easy. The hotel has a comfortable feel and not so big as to lose its personal feel. The rooms were very clean and well serviced. The bedrooms are adequate in size and functional and the shower room and toilet very good, and as good as you will find in better star rated hotels, even within Club Med resorts.
The staff were all excellent and all go out of their way to make your stay as perfect as you expected it to be when you booked. We had a great time, met many people from different nationalities and all shared some great fun, and most importantly thoroughly enjoyed the skiing in our group. In our 5 years skiing we have become comfortable in tackling any colour graded slope and some off piste with our great instructors. Seeing the hotel mini club children from about the age of 4 enjoying themselves on the slopes with their instructors makes us wish we had started skiing earlier in life. Well done Club Med we will return to this club again!

As a family we have been going to Club Med ski resorts for the past 10 years and we have now been to 5 resorts with Aime La Plagna I am afraid being not the best.
I can only base my review on our experiences at the resort itself. The actual skiing is fantastic and the runs, instructors and ski room are probably the best we have experienced. The ski in and ski out facility is great.
The organisation of our trip from Paris to the resort and back to Paris by train was very good and we had a taxi organised for us to take us direct to and from the resort from the station. The check in procedure and the organisation of our ski equipment was the fastest we have experienced with everyone being very friendly and efficient.
Unfortunately the accommodation we had was not good at all.
The hotel appears very run down with the common areas really needing an update of the carpet and furniture. We liked to have a drink after dinner in the reception lounge but this was often spoilt by cigarette smoke coming in the front doors every time they were opened as this was where the smokers congregated.
We had booked three Mountain View rooms as we are a family of 5 adults at an extra cost. The view is amazing but the rooms were run down. The first room of ours did not have wardrobe doors or a drawer to the desk. The second room had wardrobe doors but the drawer to the desk fell off when opened the first time. The third room had wardrobe doors but no desk drawer as well. The pillows supplied for the beds were basically sofa pillows which we found very uncomfortable to sleep on. I know these may seem minor issues but In all I feel this is not a very good way to present the rooms/hotel to paying guests and we felt a little insulted.
The carpet in the hallways had large stains on it and even if it was clean it does not do much for the presentation of the hotel. Also for some reason the hallways had that smell of cigarette smoke and cleaning fluid which I would describe as a “Club Med” scent. The particular hallways we had to walk down to our rooms smelt very bad at times. The bathrooms are small but more than adequate with hot water always available and a heated towel rail which worked on and off.
The little radiator in the room never seemed to come on. I did enquire about this and was told it comes on automatically at 11pm each night. Ours never did but it was not really a major problem for us as the quilts kept us warm enough.
On the up side the rooms were clean and the cleaning staff was very good.
The food at the buffets was okay but again the other resorts we had stayed at all had much better food.
Having stayed at other 3 Trident Club Med Resorts I would say this resort is definitely not a 3 Trident Club. The sking is fantastic in this area and I would probably recommend the other Club Med (La Plagna 2100) just up the hill. It looked a lot newer and I believe it is a 4 Trident Resort.

Travelled here with a group of 30 friends for a ski holiday in February. It was perfect for a big group and great value for money. While Aime la Plagne is not a quaint ski village, so has no real atmosphere as such, the convenience of being with in such easy reach of so many varied ski runs was worth it. Our group was completely mixed ability from complete beginner to experts up in Group 4 and all had a fantastic time and the skiing surpassed expectations for many.
The rooms were a reasonable size, clean & modern. Unfortunately we had the smell of drains in our room but we were just unlucky as none of the rest of the group had any problems. The all inclusive food was very good with so much choice, the wine with dinner while not amazing was quite adequate and there was a well stocked bar that we all took advantage of. The daily evening entertainment was quite bizarre, so bad it was in a way entertaining but apparently this is par for the course with Club Med. The staff were all fantastic and so helpful. Also friends we made in the hotel that had children would completely recommend it as a family holiday as the Kids Club is a great way for the parents to have a relaxing holiday while the kids are looked after and kept occupied with all sorts of activities besides their ski classes.

Room Tip: If you are in a small group ask for mountain view rooms as you can see Mont Blanc from the front sid...
