Our flight arrived in Chamberry airport on time, 29th December 2012 but this airport is tiny, and very busy. Then had to wait over hour on coach before we set off on a 2 hour journey. When we arrived at Terra Nova, our first thoughts was OMG as you arrive at the bottom of the hotel, walk throw a door, down a very plain corridor to a lift. But when we got out at reception it was nice, staff wasn't over welcoming, checked in and was told that our room wouldn't be ready until 6pm, we were there by 3pm so we waited in the bar, got a drink and were texted 20 minutes later to say room was ready. Got room 506 on 5th floor facing the drive, so we asked if we could have a room with balcony on the piste side, they said this would be an extra 10 euros per night, so we moved, 318 - so glad we did as the room was bigger more homely and great with the balcony, was tiny but opened up the room. (they ended up not charging us for the up grade) The room had 2 single beds, sofa bed and a pullout bed. Went down to ski room, were we grabbed a locker (8) by the door, as we new that it would be busy in the mornings. The staff were great the measure your feet, fit you out with skiis stick and helmets. The hotel back door is ski in - ski out fantastic location. Loads of snow. The only downfall was the food here, breakfast was ok, but dinner was a let down, some evenings we struggled and had to go out. Yes there was loads of pates and ham/cold meats, bread, salads, but hot food there wasn't alot of choice, on the childrens section one day there was a burger,(NO bun) and when you go to the adults side one man always made a comment that childrens food is over there. I think there was 2 days out of the week that was nice, gammon chips & salad and Beef, rice & carrots, but other days Yuk. When you line up you say what you want them to put on the plate, and on 2 occations i only wanted the beef and chips, and because i didn't want the sauce or the mixed up veg the man got funny and rolled his eyes, he also did this to my son when i said that wanted something off the adults side. If you didn't like one of the 4 dishes then you didn't get a hot meal.On the childrens there was Spag bol one day, sheperds pie(runny) just a burger on day, or a sausage roll on another, & mixed veg. The staff in the restaurant wasn't helpful, they would get you 1 round of drinks but getting another was hard work. This is a great shame as the hotel was in a fantastic location and nice to that you got hotel credit where you can get drinks, snacks or packed lunch. we didnt spend all the credit. you dont get this back, so make the most of it. We always picked up crisp, mars bars, Kitkats..
Our flight home was delayed, then had to get a coach to Lyon airport because of fog. Nightmare. Then to top it off my case didn't get put on the flight, but arrived 4 days later. The crystal rep Chevion was lovely and helpful. If the food at dinner was better then would return but into Geneva airport.
