“Good place to stay for La Plagne”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

We found the Mercure a good choice - it really is ski in, ski out (from immediately outside the reception front door), the rooms are large with plenty of storage space by French Alps standards, the food is of good quality, and the dinner bed and breakfast works out to be good value.
The restaurant gets quite busy both for dinner and breakfast - we never had to wait for a table but can be quite crowded (and short waits at the self-service buffet). The tables on the upper floor get quite warm, and you have to take the stairs each time to go down to the buffet. An alternative for a quiter dinner if you like that is to go earlier before it gets busy. The food is good and the service friendly.
The hotel has free internet access (although we found occasionally not working for short periods at busy times).
Vehicle access is very good (once you work it out - the hotel road entrance is inside the car park - which seems to always show as full at the entrance although it's not). If coming by car, you can stop to unload right at the door to reception, and if you are lucky, or reserve a space with the hotel upfront, can park a few metres away.
The hotel is a good choice if you do not want to stay for a full week Saturday to Saturday - they seem to just book by the night so you can choose when and for how long to come.
Belle Plagne as a resort is not the liveliest (which is probably a cause of the high proportion of families with young kids at the hotel). Other than the hotel bar, which is nice but quiet, we found only one real bar in Belle Plagne (plus three restaurants which double as a bar in the late afternoon). The gondola to Bellecote runs 'til late (1 am I think), but we found only one more bar down there.
La Plagne is reasonable skiing for intermediates, not so much for beginners. Some very nice red runs in Vallendry (to which La Plagne is linked).

Room Tip: Try to get one not too far from the lift. Walking the corridor to the far end feels like several min...

What a great stay at this hotel. The Mercure Belle Plagne is perfectly placed as a ski in/ski out hotel and has a welcoming reception area. The rooms are basic but kept clean and the facilities are all you need. What really stands out with this place is the superb restaurant. We went half board and the breakfast and evening meals were excellent. The range of food is different each night and of the highest quality. Friendly staff too. Highly recommended.

Just back from a 4 night stay with my wife at the mercure in belle plagne, a great hotel in a fantastic ski resort. Firstly the location of the hotel is directly on the ski slope so you can ski to and from the front door. There is a ski hire shop next door which is excellent value when booked through skiset online.
Our room was pretty small and poorly lit with two single beds that we had to push together, not ideal but we didn't really mind as it was just a place to sleep and was comfortable enough. We were on a half board basis and the food in the hotel was excellent. Both breakfast and dinner were buffet service, the choice and quality of the food was excellent and the service was friendly and prompt. The wine list was good although it was fairly pricy. The hotel bar was a nice, stylish place to have a few drinks after dinner although the drinks were overpriced. We really enjoyed our stay at the mercure, the location and food were fantastic and we'd definitely go back again.

The hotel has largish rooms - for a ski resort hotel anyway.
The hotel is clean.
There is a definite lack of in room decoration - but at least they do not put those grotty covers on the bed that never get washed.... Thank you - white sheets doona covers are perfect
The breakfast buffet has a good selection
The dinner buffet is themed and changes every night
The staff are friendly and helpful
But the spa / gym - well do not talk French because they will "je ne comprends pas". Yet they do not speak English well enough to communicate effectively. The facilities at the spa / gym are extremely tired and definitely need a facelift.
The staff at the spa also presume that you are English - which could be taken as an ever bigger insult.
Get with the program - an international hotel should ensure the services that are offered are up to at least a polite standard.
