“Basic but good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

We spent just one night here on a 24 hour trip to France. The hotel is centrally located in St Omer, within walking distance of pretty much everything, including the Saturday morning market which was great.

We had booked a Twin, but were told that they had reserved a double room for us, but quickly arranged to put us in a family room instead (1 double and 1 single) at no extra charge which we appreciated

The room was clean and more than adequate for a 1 night stopover. There is off street parking (chargeable) at the rear which was great, a restaurant (which we didn't try) and a bar (which we did). Staff were helpful and efficient and we came away thinking that it was ideal for the type of trip we had.

Free wifi, reasonably sized room (at the front with double glazing to avoid traffic noise). I am sure that we would consider it again if we return to St Omer

Travelled from Nottingham, Uk via the Chunnel, stayed Folkestone then to Overnight away from Calais but still within 30 mins of same in France to conclude a 2 day break and wine collection. This hotel is ideal, perfect location within 100 yds of central St Omer, local bars and restaurants.. Car parking on site, off street and 7e approx for the duration. Welcoming staff, speak English as your French weakens and efficiently processed to be in a clean an adequate room for this type of weekend stay within less than 5 mins of parking your car. We were 2 couples, with 2 rooms .. Our 3rd visit in 18 months .. Will return, say no more

Stayed at the Ibis in Saint Omer as an overnight stop between Calais and Gerardmer.

It was as expected of the Ibis standard, clean, efficient, value for money and convenient for the journey.

Super shower, clean beds, clean rooms, there is no atmosphere in these hotels but they are just for putting your head down on a long journey, breakfast is basic but worth having for the price to set you on your way.

We went here on a very cold January weekend. The idea was to have a short break away from the UK. We were not disappointed.

The first thing to say is that the hotel is as near to the centre of the town as it possible to be with being in the centre. The GPS given by the hotel takes you to the front door. To get to the car park you have to drive around the block as the one-way streets mean that you cant get ti it from that point. The car park holds about 20 cars. There are 2 under cover spots. The charge is 7.5 Euros a night which is a bit steep considering it is not secure (Safe but not behind locked gates).

The hotel is much what you would expect from an Ibis. There is a bar and resturant (serving evening meals). The breakfast is the usual food with a usual selection of cold meats and cheese, breads, cearals, etc. Coffee comes from a machine but is good.

The room I had was at the back of the hotel on the 1st floor. It was quiet but was smaller than other Ibis hotels I have stayed at. I found it clean.

The staff are helpful and reception speak English.

Around the corner, off and on the main square, are a selection of over 20 different resturants (yes 20+). Although some seem to close on Sunday night there still plenty. Saturday night was the busiest and we had to go to 3 before we got a table.

There is not much to do on Sunday as nearly all the places were shut. We went to Boulogne (morning market) and Le Touquet (shops open in the afternoon 2.30pm+).

Room Tip: Quieter at the back

When you book a room at an Ibis, you like to think that you know what you're going to get. And this Ibis delivers exactly that. It's functional, not uxurious, but with a warm feeling thanks to the colours of the decor. Rooms are small, but fine for one person. The double bed was comfortable with good quality linens, and the bathroom clean and in working order. Breakfast was okay but not exciting, but if you want excitement go somewhere else and pay much more.

The hotel is right in the centre of this characterful Flemish town with plenty of nearby restaurants. There is parking at the hotel (extra charge) but if the car park is full, there's plenty of on-street parking. There's a restaurant and bar in the hotel, too.

Room Tip: Double glazing is effective, so even street-facing rooms are quiet.
