“Large, quiet rooms with warm, engaging hosts.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2011

My husband and I stayed at Le Domaine de La Millasserie while traveling with our twenty-one year old daughter through the Dordogne. This is a quiet corner of Dordogne, but close to all the sites. We chose it because it wasn't far from Toulouse and Bordeaux. We had two rooms. Both were very large with incredibly comfortable beds. Bathrooms were small, without tubs, but very clean, with great water pressure in the showers. The guest rooms were set along a lovely garden and have French doors leading out to private patios that look toward the woods. We only had two days in Dordogne. Byrne planned one of our days for us, and everything he directed us to was lovely--we went to Sarlat, of course, but also to several smaller villages that we would not have seen without his recommendation. He made reservations both evenings for dinner in two wonderful restaurants that didn't break the bank. The pool was refreshing at the end of the day. Breakfast was generous, with fresh croissants, yogurt, bread, fruit and coffee. Byrne and Alan have both had interesting lives and we enjoyed chatting with them but they never imposed on us. We'd definitely return here again. Next time, though, I'd rent a bike. Although hilly, there were many quiet roads to explore.

Room Tip: 4 rooms all equivalent.

An attractive and peaceful setting at this delightful B&B. Exceptionally comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms with the best beds we have ever slept in! Delicious breakfast on the patio and a lovely swimming pool. Alain and Byrne look after you extremely well. It is well placed for exploring the Dordogne and they will recommend good restaurants. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: All bedrooms are to the same standard

We stayed two nights at this lovely B and B. It's a bit out of the way but a lovely respite from touring the towns of the Dordogne and easy to drive to many places of interest. Our room was beautiful and large, the bed large and dreamy, the bathroom also big with a great shower. The hosts were friendly and intelligent conversationalists, and helpful with things like restaurant recommendations and reservations. For those who like to relax around a pool, I can't think of a more lovely spot. The water was cool and refreshing and we had it to ourselves. We met some very nice people at breakfast. Wish we could have stayed another night or two.

One had to go inside the owner's house in order to get internet services. I didn't do that and was just as happy to be "disconnected" for a few days.

The owners, Byrne and Alain, are more than gracious.

Room Tip: There are only four rooms and all beautiful.

We have just returned from a fabulous 3 night stay at La Domaine de la Millasserie. Byrne and Alain are wonderful hosts with excellent restaurant recommendations and suggestions for places to visit. The rooms are more individual cottages so great for people who don't always go for B&B's as you can come and go as you like. The rooms are luxurious with private patios to enjoy a glass of great wine from the markets in the area and there is a large pool when the weather is warmer. The breakfast is excellent in true french style - great bread and pastries and wonderful coffee served outside if the weather is warm. The location was great - close enough to the more touristy villages but not too close- which means you see a bit more of the countryside and eat at great places.

Byrne and Alain have created a beautiful, friendly service in a wonderful area in The Perigord. even before we arrived they had organized restaurants and places for us to see. Their travel instructions were extremely useful and clearly written. The rooms were beautifully and tastefully decorated and we slept so well on the wonderful four-poster bed that we could hardly drag ourselves up to have the lovely breakfast that awaited us! Byrne and Alain are wonderful, warm, witty hosts. We had a wonderful Christmas break much enhanced by their company.

In the fall of 2010 we rented two rooms in this beautiful B&B. This is truly a Four-Star hotel, complete with daily maid service. The linens, towels and King Size beds are all superb. We usually do not stay at B&B’s however these accommodations are more like a private cottage. Indeed, each unit has its own completely private patio, huge state of the art rain shower; the rooms are very large and furnished with usable antique furniture. La Millasserie has a delightfully peaceful tranquility and is still just minutes away from local villages. Byrne and Alain are the perfect hosts, at breakfast we would discuss our itinerary and they would often suggest other sites along the route, e.g. “try such and such chateau – it is fully furnished”. Personal recommendations truly are the type of information you can never get out of a guide book. We have been to this area several times and still have not scratched the surface of this deeply historic / architecturally magnificent region. Every few miles there is another castle, chateau, medieval site or Grand Masion. We are not in the habit of returning to the same hotel, but we would revisit Le Domaine de La Millasserie in a heartbeat. Highly Recommended!

We had a fantastic time at this b&b. If you enjoy your wine and are looking for a relaxing break then this place is ideal. Unfortunately we only had 2 nights in this beautiful place so we didn't really do it justice. There is so much to offer in the Dordogne region we wish we had another 3 nights or so.

The rooms are excellent, the breakfast is great and the hosts Byrne and Alain are very hospitible and go out of their way to ensure your stay is comfortable. They even posted a room key I accidently took from the previous accomodation we stayed at back to them for us which was a huge help and unexpected.

The dinner suggestions were excellent, the hosts gave great directions and organized the reservations for us. The breakfast was very nice and there were a number of other small touches that all contributed to a fantastic stay such as cold water on arrival, towel walmers, itinery suggestions, large rooms, nice furniture etc.

I would highly recommend this b&b. Great accomodation in the perfect location.

Brad
