“Fantastic holiday....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

We stayed here for the first time in August. We had a Eurocamp tent with pitch view. It overlooked the field to the PGL. Having looked round the site, it was definitely worth paying extra for his type of pitch. The weather was very hot - over 100 degrees one some days. We were glad we had a tent in the trees - being able to roll up the sides during the day kept it relatively cool.

The facilities on site were excellent. We did not eat in the restaurant but did use the pizzeria and take away. The shop was very well stocked and was not too expensive. Had we known about it when we arrived, we would have definitely used one of the sites payment cards for use on the site in the shop, bar etc.

Pool facilities were very busy - but it was the height of summer. All pools very clean and site staff did keep an eye out especially on the crazy river. Excited teenagers do not always mix well with younger children but staff managed to keep things under control. Our 8 and 5 yr old loved it. Only negative point was the loose tiles on the path to the lower pool and the narrow steps joining the pools.

Surrounding area is beautiful with lots to do. Thoroughly recommend canoeing on the Dordogne but avoid Le Bugue on Tuesday which is market day and it becomes gridlocked (as we found out!!). Stayed for 9 nights before moving onto another Eurocamp site on the coast. Got home and immediately booked to go back in 2013 - for 15 nights.

Excellent site: Great pitches, decent shop, good food, and excellent staff (site-staff that is - Eurocamp staff were, unusually, non-existent). Our static caravan was clean and well looked after with a large pitch.

There is a good choice of pools and great slides for the children. Only problem is that the pool temperature was freezing. This put our children off going in (even though the weather was hot and sunny) and so they spent most of their time pestering us to let them go to the indoor pool as this was warmer. This was very disappointing, and seemed to be a common problem with others as well, and created friction on what was otherwise a fantastic holiday. Would love to go back as everything else about this site was excellent, but this will probably put us off as it really did create an issue each day with the children.

Otherwise, can't fault the site (oh, except for the dirty, stinky steps between pools which someone else also mentioned).

The park is located right next to the cafe which is great as you can relax, have a coffee, and keep an eye on the children while they play.

Stayed for 3 weeks in August , weather very very hot, entertainment every evening and good. Food in restaurants and takeaways good , bar prices reasonable , very good shop. Great site , booked direct and stayed in a mobile very clean and well maintain , all staff very helpful and polite. As usual with French campsites not enough sunbeds by the pool , this was a problem on days when it hit 40 plus . Pool area fantastic but very busy , my only criticism was the steps leading from one pool to the other via the toilets they were dirty , smelly and too narrow , however when pointed out to staff the steps were jet washed. Considering going back next year which would be our 3rd year . First visited when children 3 and 1 and are now 11 and 9 , plenty to keep all ages entertained.

We stayed at Saint Avit for 14 nights, the last 2 weeks of August. The accommodation (Eurocamp) was one of the 'larger' pitches near the PGL tower, a Horizon Midi. It was plenty sufficient, the outside space around the unit wasn't really used, but the decking certainly was. Bedrooms are small, as was the double bed, 2 of us over 6' made it a bit of a squash....this is a general complaing of caravans I suppose, not this site. We didn't see a great deal of any 'reps', but I'm sure they would be around if we'd needed them.
We arrived in a heatwave, and our unit didn't have aircon, it was VERY hot at night, and supposedly we were 'lucky' to have a fan, second week was a bit cooler, so all good. We have 3 boys, 14, 8 and 6 and they settled in straight away, especially in their respective 'kids clubs'. I have to say that throughout the holiday we found the clubs, and the staff to be EXCELLENT, the boys had a whale of a time, they were safe, and having fun...giving us and hour or two by the pool. Moving on, the PGL outward bound area. Again, these guys were SUPERB, we bought a family pack of tickets and spent the last week trying everything, the group really were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, which is what you need when you're 30 feet up from the ground about to propel yourself off the tower.
The site, clean, very pleasant, nice staff, excellent pools....the pool area gets busy quickly, but that's the way it is in high season, plenty of room once you're in. We didn't eat at the restaurant, but had the takeaway a few times, pizzas are fairly decent, and the 'happy half hour' on the beer was a bonus. Nice to see the owner and his family around and about in the evenings, made it a little more personal.
So, did I enjoy it? Well, we've just booked 16 nights for 2013, so that says it all really. We can't wait to go back, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

We stayed here at the beginning of July so it was a bit quieter than normal, but still had a real buzz.

The area is beautiful, quaint and great for sightseeing.

The campsite was probably the best we have been to so far. Last year we stayed in La Clarys Plage which to be honest was poor in comparison, the year before that it was Le Chateau des Marais which is a also a great site.

The pool complex was superb, the kids loved the water slides with the rubber rings. The bar, restaurant and take away was great. We ate in the sit in restaurant one evening and the food was beautiful. Pizzas from the takeaway where also really good. Best value option for drinking at the bar was a carafe of wine.

The site staff (not Eurocamp) where also great, they put on entertainment most nights and where very friendly and helpful. We went into reception to ask for some details about the area etc. They gave us loads of info and booked on us on a boat trip down the Dordogne River.

The kids clubs where much better than normal.

No onto the the bad points, but these are minor and nothing to do with site or their staff.

We travelled from Northern Ireland and we arrived at around 7:30pm which was well ahead of our anticipated arrival date and by all extents still early in the evening. However no one at the Eurocamp reception so as usual rang the mobile number....no answer....rand again....no answer...kept going for around 20 mins until answered. Let the person know we need to check in. A very grumpy lady (the "cheif" courier) appeared and ushered us to our pitch and left very quickly. After we unpacked car we thought we would go for a pizza, except the grumpy lady didn't leave a key, tried ringing and ringing and ringing no answer, by the time we got her the take away was closed. The next day we realised we had the wrong pitch, we booked (and paid for) one of the large pitches which where beside the kids club area, but we where on the other side. As we had unpacked we didn't complain. Generally the couriers where OK but no-one called until our last day, which by the was pointless. However the site staff more than made up for the poorness of the Couriers.

I wouldn't let that put off anyone going, the site etc is still great and well worth a stay!

We have recently come back from a 4 night stay in Saint Avit Loisirs. Overall I was very impressed, the staff were amazing and very helpful, the park was clean and quiet, my only slight concerns would be the accommodation, we did not stay much in our Villa Grand Deluxe because it was not that big, the bedrooms were very small and not suitable for anyone, there was no TV but a TV point so not sure if we should have had one, but it did not matter to be honest. For the price we paid we could not moan. We loved the swimming pool, even though they were not heated which even in 30c heat were still cold, we loved the slides with the rubber rings (remember to buy one before you go as you have to have one).

But overall it was lovely, would recommend to anyone.

Just returned from a weeks holiday with our family of 5 (kids under 7). Thought the pizzas were excellent, supermarket good value and the camp very clean and beautiful. Would certainly recommend. Kids club ran by key camp was great and the facilities and pool complex are brilliant. If had to be critical, you can hear noise from the disco around the site, but it is quiet at 11pm (our children just adapted and slept when we did) and the key camp tent was a bit used but overall a great holiday at a great site in a great location. Would heartily recommend.
