“Fur coat no knickers - avoid at all costs or you wallet will be damaged”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

Called her on spec on route from Italy. Was initially offer a room not in the main building for 120 Euro. It stank of damp and was old and musty. I refused to stay so they offered me a room in the main building that was allegedly 350 Euros, which I agreed to pay 150 Euro including breakfast. The main room was ok, the bed was ok althouth the fabric headboard had a couple of nice shiny spots where somebody's swede had been polished. The bathroom was tragic though, old, musty, tired and non working shower. We had dinner which was actually very good although ridiculously expensive. The service was slow due to the few staff, who were actually OK on the whole. It turns out this is a member of the SLH (Small Luxury Hotels) chain, which as I have stayed in many of there hotels is an absolute joke, it is the opposite of luxury. Its a 1980's decorated, overpriced dump. I

We stopped here for just one night, en route to Italy. Although not the easiest place to find, the Chateau is signposted once you are through the town centre.

Once we arrived, the first impression of the Chateau was impressive, albeit strange looking, owing part of the building looking more like a lighthouse. (Assume this was some kind of viewing tower.

We were efficiently checked in with a perfect English speaking daughter? of the owner, and personally shown to our room. The quirky keys to the rooms take a little getting used to, (turn, push, turn again) but that made it all the more special. The room was on the top (3rd) floor, and at least there was a lift to avoid the precarious staircase back down again, but that made it all the more authentic !!

The room was traditionally furnished and air conditioned (thank goodness as it was very warm that weekend) and we had a welcome gift from the owners of Alsatian wine and chocolates.
The only disappointment was the small and dated bathroom, is was very clean, but very 70s.

Before dinner, we had a drink on the fabulous terrace with equally fabulous view across the Alsace. Dinner was served on an ajoining terrace, and the service and quality of the food was excellent.

We stopped at a different hotel on the way back (Chateau d'Adomenil in Luneville a little further north) see my other review, which perhaps has the edge on the food, this was a lovely Chateau.

Chateau d'Isenbourg is a beautiful hotel to stay in, the rooms are spacious and well equipped and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. It is so relaxing to sit and have a drink or a meal overlooking the vineyards and the village of Rouffach down below. It is a lovely area to cycle ( bicycles are available from hotel) or walk around or you can just relax in one of the hotels 2 swimming pools.

This was one of my best stays ever internationally. The views were amazing and if you like sweet white wines, there is no place better on the earth. I was staying as part of a business trip, but look for an opportunity to return with my wife. The breakfast was amazing, however if you do not speak the local languages, it was a bit challenging. Not everyone there spoke English well, and i was a bit disappointed one night with my food section (I am sure the quality was great, but the food choice was not what i thought it would be). If you spoke French or German, this place was easily a 5 star.

Room Tip: My room was a bit noisy. I was located right by the front desk.

Great Breakfast (top)
Nice service and nice people there

Great chateau hotel - historic place, beautiful place in the vineyards, stylish rooms, excellent breakfast and food! But do not go for spa- massages are not bad (average quality, highly priced- more expensive that great massages in 5 star Maldives hotel), but spa facilities are poor and very old.

We have stayed here a couple of times and love it. The place is pretty and French, the cocktails are fabulous, the food is an adventure of seasonal goodies from Alsace. The room are decorated in a French style and the children welcomed with a little present and teddy. The head waiter is lovely and the pool, sauna and stream room were fun with the family before breakfast. We well go back. Colman is just down the road and is a lovely fun French city.

Room Tip: Pool is on the first floor
