“love the nature surroundings of RBRS..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2012

This was our first time in Bali, and it was arranged by someone(from a club where im a member) if you're fond of nature surroundings this is the hotel for you.Their buffet breakfast is not that bad(Im ready for the worse anyway)there's variety you could choose from..oh one more thing, just dont forget to give tips or you might get the 'cold shoulder treatment' my husband and I we experienced it.when they gave us Rm 2901 the aircon there is not working properly so we asked the desk officer to transfer us to another rm w/c he did promptly and told the bellboy to accompany us that person when we saw him the next day he gave us the 'cold shoulder treatment' coz we have no available rupiah or smaller dollar bills yet for his tips well we just ignored him.

Room Tip: avoid Rm 2901 the aircon there is not working the last time we checked in..

Good:
> Highlight of this resort was the pool and the swim up bar! Great cocktails be sure to try the cosmic colada, all cocktails around $7aud each. Happy hour was 30% off 4-7pm.
> You can borrow books, magazines & towels by the pool area.
> Deluxe room was spacious and clean, great selection of TV channels
> Staff were friendly and helpful remembered you on a first name basis
> 15 min walk to Kuta centro shopping centre
> Great fruit carving demonstration (free)

Bad:
> Resort was not fumigated enough got extremely bitten by mozzies - must bring aerogard tropical strength.
> Too many light switches in the deluxe rooms.
> Check out was at 12 noon sharp, we requested for a late checkout and they could only extend till 12:30pm

Overall:
Risata met my need of a relaxing holiday, however my next trip to Bali will definitely involve a resort closer to the beach front.

We arrived in the early hours of the morning, and the staff had everything ready for us. Our friends had visited the bar earlier in the hopes of waiting for us, and we were amazed that the bar tender recalled their names and as we sat down, asked if we had met up with our friends yet and that he had promised to let their hotel know when we arrived to pass a message to our friends that we were there safely.. In each of our six nights there we were made to feel very comfortable, the rooms were clean and secure. Loved every minute of our stay. Thank you to the staff who put in the effort in every area of the resort.

If you want to experience beautiful Bali garden then this is the place you must stay. Although the hotel is old it is very well kept. Staffs were very friendly and there where very accommodative when my flight arrived late at night. It is walking distance to the beach however the beach more for surfers to hire a boat. No other activity in the beach. The hotel is about 15 min walk to the main town.

Room Tip: I would suggest you get the room with balcony if you would like to enjoy the garden. For parents wit...

This trip was with a friend for shopping & relaxation whilst husbands were left at home!!

Our flight from Sydney was delayed which resulted in us not arrived at the Risata until after midnight. Despite this, we were greeted by lovely, friendly reception staff & our bags were taken to our rooms while we went through the check-in process. This was very quick & within no time we were being escorted to our rooms.

Once inside our rooms we were shown how to operate the lights, tv, air con, etc. The air conditioner was already turned on, which was a welcome relief even late at night.

As we didnot get in until late, the following morning when we arose & walked through the gardens to the restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised with how beautiful & lush the gardens were. Our rooms were located at the rear of the resort & only a short walk through the gardens to the restaurant & pool. I enjoyed the stroll each day (very peaceful).

The grounds are very tropical & are a welcome relief from 'the outside world' of Kuta & surrounds. It feels like it's 10 degrees cooler as soon as you enter the resort grounds.

Food: we ate breakfast at the resort each morning & never had any complaints. Coffee/tea was offers as soon as you were seated. There was an 'egg bar' which would cook you eggs to your liking. The buffet had a good variety of foods, hot, cold, cereal, fruits, etc, & this was changed daily - not the same offerings every morning. After 11 nights, breakfast was still a surprise each morning to see what was offered!! (unlike other places where you could guess what would be available each morning!).
We had a few wood fired pizzas whilst lazing around the pool - very nice & ample toppings.
We only had one dinner at the restaurant & this was also nice & tasty - if there was not so many other options available outside the resort, I'm sure we would have had more meals here.

Accommodation: currently the cottages are progressively undergoing renovations. Our superior rooms were located in unrenovated cottages, but still there was nothing to complain about. The room was large, with a huge proper king size bed (not one of those horrible zip beds with the ridge in the middle), nice flat screen TV with ample channels (but who's there to watch tv?), an air conditioner that worked so good I had to turn it off occasionally as got a little chilly!. The bathroom was a little dated, but was clean (no mould) & fresh towels were provided daily. The shower was located over the bath, with good water pressure.
The cottages were very quiet, a little bit of noise from neighbouring rooms, but this settled down quickly.
There were security guards roaming the grounds at night which was reassuring, and also there were permanent guards on the front entry gate, checking vehicles as they entered the resort.

Grounds & Pool: as above, the grounds are tropical & cool, & well maintained (we saw gardeners every day tending to the grounds/gardens). The pool was refreshing & clean. Each morning while having breakfast we'd watch the staff cleaning & checking pH levels for the pool. We never had any problems getting a pool lounge & never felt that the pool was crowded or noisy, and was not overrun by children or loud people. Pool bar was good (great cocktails!!), as were the pizzas from the woodfired oven - excellent service.

Cooking Lesson: we did the cooking lesson on offer through the resort & absolutely loved it. To start the day we went with Head Chef Putra & Activities Officer Ayu to Jimbaran Bay and explored the fish markets and the fruit & vege markets. It was a great experience having Chef Putra escorting us, as he was very informative explaining the different seafood available, and explaining the different uses/cooking methods for the seafood, fruits & vegies.
Once finished at the markets, we then visited a local home to see a traditional Balinese kitchen. Then it was back to the resort to start our cooking lesson.

What an experience - we cooked several traditional dishes & then at the end, we all sat down to a beautifully set table & had lunch together with Chef Putra, savouring our new cooking creations.

Sukha Spa: what a fantastic experience!!!! I had a 1/2 hour foot massage (included with cooking lesson), then a Lulur Bali massage (2 hours), followed by a pedicure & all I can say is ... what a way to spend an afternoon after several long days of shopping & touring! I was in heaven, so peaceful & relaxing. My therapist did a fantastic job.

Staff: from the moment we arrived until our last afternoon, we had nothing but praise for the staff at the resort. All staff that we encountered, from front desk, to ground staff, to waiters, to the bell boys, were courteous, welcoming & very friendly.
A special hello & thank you to Ayu, Mariana & Chef Putra - you helped make our stay even more memorable, if that is possible.
Obviously, the resort must value their staff - the resort has been open for 20 years & from speaking to staff, they enjoy working there - Chef Putra has been with them for 18 years, whilst one of their drivers (hello Water), has been with them for 15 years. Most of the staff are long term employees, so the resort must be doing something right to retain such wonderful staff who are happy to work there.

Location: this was my first trip to Bali (travelling companion has been 5 times) & if I was to have stayed in Kuta, I would be saying - "put me on the next plane & get me out of here!!!" Luckily, the location of the Risata is just out of the hustle & bustle of Kuta, yet only a 5 min cab ride there.
I loved that we could walk to The Discovery Mall, shops & a heap of restaurants on the South Kuta strip, or you could just catch a cab & be in central Kuta within 5 minutes for more shopping & restaurants.

A tip: a shortcut to getting out onto the main shopping/restaurant strip - instead of going out the front of the resort & walking around - go out the back of the resort, behind the spa & childrens playground. There is a sign that says 'staff only, no access', but we would walk through there, passed the staff kitchen/offices, walk passed the security guys - who'd always say hello! & you'd be out on the main strip ready for the shops/restaurants. Saves you about 10 minutes walking in the heat.

Overall: I would definitely recommend the Risata to anyone who is looking for a little piece of paradise away from the madness of Kuta, but still within a short distance of everything.
If I was to return to Bali, I would definitely consider staying at the Risata again.

I have stayed at the Risata back in the late 1990's and again back in approx 2003. A friend has been staying there almost every year since the late 1990's as it is one of her favourite places to stay in Bali. My recent trip (Dec 2011) was with this friend and I also took my Mum. My hubby flew over later and stayed 1 night at Risata before we moved to our timeshares at Candidasa (us at Royal Bali Beach Club, my friend at Bali Palms Resort.

Risata is in Sth Kuta (or Tuban) and virtually in the last main area before the airport. Airport is very close and Risata has a shuttle between the two places. This cost us 50,000IDR for the two of us one way to use a week after we had stayed at the Risata. My girlfriend got it for free due to her regular visits there.

Risata allowed us to come back after our week away to Candidasa and Java (overnighter due to a ceremony we attended) and leave our bags in their day hold for free, use the pool and day area if we wanted (ran out of time after shopping!) and allowed us to use showers in the Spa rooms for free before heading to the airport which was greatly appreciated.

We stayed in Unit 2022 which is fairly close to reception area and the pool. It is a 2BRM, sleeps 6 apartment. It had a huge (king possibly) bed in the master room with a lovely ensuite and TV. 2nd bedroom was 2 singles, wardrobe and desk with large mirror and a seat.

Lounge with pull out double sofa bed. Lounge area has a full 6 seater size table, TV, cabinet, etc.

Mini kitchen has usual breakfast utensils and electricals as well as a microwave and full size fridge.

A full water cooler dispenser is provided also and ours was filled by cleaning staff when it was getting low. There was no charge for this. We filled our own water bottles daily from this which was handy.

Other GOOD points: friendliness and courtesy of staff; cleanliness of rooms, pool area has some shaded chairs at the right time of day along back edge, nice gardens, quietness of our apartment, an ample range of amenities are provided (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, bath foam, soap, cotton buds, toothbrushes & paste, etc).

Risata is also close to a couple of basic internet cafe's, car hire, convenience stores, tailors and a few small shops, nice cafe's and a few minutes walk to the beach. The Holiday Inn at the end of the road has a restaurant called Envy which is about mid range in price however the food was lovely the 3 times we ate there and compared to Australia is well priced for the standard of food and quality of presentation. The ambience at Envy is great (kind of Cafe del Mar'ish with big couches etc in the grounds and right on the beach).

Only one mosquito in our room while there so it passed the mossie test.

Be aware it is quite a walk from Discovery Mall and then onto Kuta Square on very average footpaths (or via the nicer beach promenade walk). Maybe 15 mins (10min if fast walker, 20 mins if strolling slowly). This was fine for all of us inc my Mum (a fit, almost 70 yo) and we walked it every day rather than taxi.

No real negatives as such (we prefer being in Semiyak, Sanur or Candidasa as a location but that is personal preference). Fantastic for getting to/from airport though.

Breakfast was $10AUD and average. Good cook on the egg station worth mentioning but we have had much better breakfasts (e.g The W Hotel, Seminyak) and MUCH worse in our travels. I preferred just eating for $2 to $3 at local cafes nearby for much the same American style breaky. The cafe area is nice though by the pool.

This has to be one of the worst hotels I have stayed had.. I was on honeymoon and should have selected a better hotel. The close proximity to the beach and the main city area attracted me to this so called garden resort which was worse than anything we had expected..
The service was bad right from check in. The staff is cold, unfriendly and not bothered about the guests as long as the room is paid for. We were served a terrible welcome drink of some cheap syrupy water mixure with cloves floating on top. The checkin took long. The only friendly person we met on our 1st day was a non-english speaking bell desk assistant who helped us with our bags and walked us to the room. He also tried explaining the features of the room with actions as he only spoke the native language!
There in the tiny mini bar fridge in the room and that's where we found our cake. Our "honeymoon cake" which was left on the bed side table through out our stay of 4 days. We assumed that someone would take it away as clearance if we left it untouched but that dint happen so I finally kept it with the coffee cups that were used. But to our horror when we returned back to the room after a day out the cake platter was left in the plants near the door.. unattended!!! A fruit platter is kept in the room with old fruits which will eventually dry up during your stay and will never be replenished.
We were booked for a deluxe room and shouldve checked what it comes with. A few minutes after we checked in we asked for a room change because our room had a tiny balcony and that overlooked another part of the hotel building wall with some plants around the balcony to provide privacy which we never felt! We also asked the rate of the villa for a night as my husband and I would have like to spend one night there as this was our honeymoon. We were told that there is a rate of the day the reception is not aware of the rate and would have to be checked with the sales. They got back to us in a few hours but gave us the same reason. This was out right terrible service. Also the bathroom is tiny and for just one person at a time!!
The quality of sleep is good but make sure you are an early riser because if you like to sleep in that's not allowed. The housekeeping staff comes banging on your door to make the room at 8:30am and if you think you are smart and put the DND sign outside the room, the coffeeshop lady will call to ask you to come for breakfast which is more of a demand than an invitation!
The hotel provides WiFi on charge but you have to walk to the reception to collect your card as it will not be sent to your room however late in the night it is. This is not a very good idea if your room is a distance from the main lobby considering the resort is spread over a large area.
There is a large pool in the center of the resort which is perpetually full of noisy kids and loud guests. So make sure to get a room away from the pool and on a higher floor... The restaurant next to the pool which also serves breakfast is the only place we ate lunch once and were grossed out by the fly infested area. The last night in the hotel we ordered room service as there was a lot of packing to be done and chose to eat light so a soto ayam (noodle soup) and grilled steak with black pepper sause and mashed potatoes made dinner.. It was one of the worst in our 10 days Bali trip! Soto ayam had foul smelling tiny eggs and the mashed potatoes was a liquidy paste!!! All the other nights we ate at the Holiday Inn just at the end of the street. Try it if you are stuck in a situation like us! We also considered moving there for our last night.
The hotel also has a list of activities for the guests however the list put on the board near the loby is in some native language so don't bother inquiring at the reception as they don't care..
The overall stay was very bad. You have to make repeated requests on the phone for anything you need, the staff is not a happy lot.
There are many other hotels in the area and if you really want to enjoy your honeymoon stay at Nusa Dua or Benoa...
