We drove in from the Napa Valley on Friday October 12, 2012, easily finding Nature's Inn and arriving around 1PM. Sherrilee cheerily checked us in and gave me some excellent direction... with only about a day and a half we had to be on a schedule. The destination was Glacier Point. The drive was beautiful... but a thick and enveloping fog had rolled in and made the driving eerily breathtaking... huge redwoods jutting out from neolithic rock formations, rising into heights obscured by the dense fog. Hauntingly beautiful ride to and from... but alas the sights from Glacier Point would hopefully be open for business the next day. Once back in the Tuolumne Meadows room, a long day was toastily put to rest looking out over the valleys to the west. With night the skies were clear... and with hope that tomorrow would be the same. We saw the Milky Way that night for maybe the first time ever... living in a city will do that... maybe as a kid I saw it from the back yard of the old farmhouse in the country our folks owned... but regardless it was a spectacular and humbling sight to see...
For breakfast the next morning, we had chosen to be in the lodge at 7:30AM for a home cooked breakfast, complete with hot coffee and juices. With Sherrilee it felt like home...
The trip into Oakhurst from Nature's Inn is approximately 20 minutes... and the entrance to the southern entrance to the Park is another 30 minutes or so... excellent driving... after entering Park, Glacier Point Road is approximately 15 minutes away with Glacier Point itself another 30 minutes from there... but an incredible drive with many places for jaw dropping views and picture opportunities... and when you get to Glacier Point, be ready to be awestruck. It really is that good!
Driving back out, and turning right will get you to the Yosemite Valley entrance... again, it is everything thing you can imagine times 10! You really do have to see this place in your lifetimes... make it happen... :)
