First & foremost I have to say the staff at 9 Beaches is wonderful, truly attentive & try their best to accommodate all their guests wants & needs. That said, expect to stay in a tent like "room" & have a very different experience than your usual hotel. The grounds are beautiful but don't expect a manicured look, or paving in the area around the cabana's. Expect a natural setting with nature around you. Our cabana was #30 looking over the beach where all the action is. Action here is watching people snorkeling or snoobaing & people drinking at the bar or eating lunch. I was under the impression that dinner would also be served at this beach side venue, but its not. Its in the same room as breakfast. Breakfasts are a bit bland; scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, french toast, waffles or pancakes, juice, fruit & cereal etc. It changes very little, but you can order an omelet or eggs cooked your way if you like. Dinner however is a different story. The chef really does make the effort to make delicious food & an excellent risotto. Fresh fish would always be my pick. Rum drinks abound if that's your desire but there is a long wine list as well.
Wifi in only in the lobby/bar area in the same building. We did get wifi in our cabana but it so so sporadic that it was more frustrating than not. There is a little out building for ice, which will be much needed, with a soda & water dispenser too. There are small fridges for cold drinks & what not in the rooms. As said in many reviews things are very expensive in Bermuda, there are no cars to rent & to get to the airport & back we had no choice but take a taxi. And the drivers here know how to soak a tourist. Example: when leaving the airport, at the taxi stand, a young woman seemed to work there & had a list. On the list she said how much our ride should be to 9 Beaches & quoted us $29.00. The cab driver taking our bags into his car looked at her list & said "where'd you get that?" I charge them whats on the meter. She tried to tell him rates were from the something or other but he nearly laughed at her. The cad driver quoted about $40. my husband said ok. We got in & by the time we got there it was over $52.00. But wait, it gets worse. On the way back to the airport we decided we would try to split a cab with other guests. We did manage to find another couple to share with, arranged by 9 Beaches front desk. Terrific I thought. We met the other couple, waited for the taxi who showed up looking for the one couple & said he was not expecting to find two. Oh, well he said, get in & you can all go together. "Gee thanks I thought." He again sad that he was not expecting to have to take 4 people & seemed put out. I said that 9 beaches arranged it & he said no they didn't. No matter, along the way he regaled us with his many stories of himself, never stopped talking about how expensive it is to live in Bermuda, called me a backseat driver & when we finally arrived at the airport managed to rack up $63.00 on his meter....hummm. I'm not sure how he managed to rack up a $10.00 difference to the same place & back ,but to make matters worse he told us each couple had to pay that amount-unreal! I told him "that's not right & you know it." He stood his ground & said "its my cab." My husband & the other husband wanted to just pay & get out on with it. So they settled on $50. each which was highway robbery & if you think its better for locals think again. I talked to someone who lived there & went through the same thing. Only her cabbie asked for a tip as well, to that she hit the ceiling. Gas prices & everything else is high there, so I guess they justify ripping off those who can afford a taxi is only fair. If there were an alternative I would tell you about it. Aside from the city bus though you are stuck. Ladies tip: clingy clothes are out-forget dressing up.
