Historic Trujillo, home of the Conquistadors, has all of the beauty, history and atmosphere that a traveller could wish for. The colonnaded Plaza Major is a joy to behold, but is served by a number of only average restaurants serving mainly mediocre food. The exception is the lovely Coral del Rey. Located just behind the Pharmacy, this restaurant with its series of earth coloured salons offers elegant and refined dining, with good use of local ingredients, and attention to presentation. This is "Black Pig" country, so the Iberian charcuterie came as no surprise, but a starter salad of marinated red peppers and prawns was a delight, and looked like a picture on the plate. The main course beef was superbly cooked and served with seasonable vegetable, and the desserts were equally good and home made. Service was delightful, and the wine list
offered a good choice of Extramaduran vineyards, with a few additions from elsewhere.
We had a lovely dining experience at this restaurant, and came away feeling that we had at last found a restaurant worthy of one of the loveliest of Spanish towns.
